What a cool dinning experience as advertised. About 30 folks were seated around the cooking area…read moreor at hightop tables behind the cooking area. We were very pleased to have been seated at the bar, I do not think it would have been as an immersive an experience if we had we been at a table where you could not see the chef as he prepared our 4 course meal. Upon arrival you are seated and given a cocktail menu (not included in the cost of the meal). My hubby had a very strong bourbon and water and I had a cream, liquor, vodka drink that was very tasty, similar to a White Russian. At around 6 pm chef Todd began by telling us his history and passion for cooking inspired by his grandmothers as he prepared our appetizers. I am a bit fuzzy on the details of the ingredients of all the dishes since I fell later that evening, broke my hip and shoulder and spent the next 6 days in the hospital but I'll do my best, keeping in mind all 4 courses were expectional. Appetizer was a baked pear with goat cheese and a crostini with cranberry goat cheese, walnuts and honey drizzle. Second course was a bean soup and corn bread. Main course was pot roast, carrots, potatoes and mushrooms. Mine was super tender and very flavorful. Mu husbands portion had a lot of fat but what he could eat was tasty. And for dessert he served bananas foster bread pudding. We were given a sample of the bread pudding upon arrival to whet our appetites and it sure did. The whole experience was first class; food, service, cocktails, interaction with the chef, owner and wait staff, atmosphere was just plain fun, entertaining and satisfying. We were there about 2 hours. Street parking, comfortable setting and a unique dinning experience. I highly recommend for a special occasion. They offer different menus, prepared by different chefs and other special events. Check the webpage for availability as they sell out and reservations are required, paid in advance.

I promise you it's a fantastic night out. It's a live dining show that is unlike anything I've ever experienced. Chef Joe Burner was so charismatic and his food was not only spectacular, but made with Love. Their classes fill up fast so make sure you sign up ASAP. We will most definitely come back. The menus change according to whatever the Chef wants to do. Enjoy the pics. It truly was one of the best meals I've ever had.

Intimate room, excellent menu, top notch service!…read more The room is dark, surprisingly intimate for as open as it is. Low ceilings and servers clad in black add to the effect of a candle-lit cask of a restaurant. The smells wafting from the kitchen immediately get your appetite revving if it wasn't already in gear. Out host, Mary, sat our party quickly and the server came right away to fill waters and take drink orders. The menu is short but superb. Everything has a Mediterranean flair that should make you expect savory mess and spice. Prices are in the $40-60 range for entrees but worth it! Parking is free in the lot and a QR code on the menu gives you access to enter your info including plate number. It's a nice feature for an area where spots are limited.

I was hosting a business dinner in Louisville last week and wanted to try someplace new. I scanned…read morethe list of James Beard 2025 semifinalists and focused on two spots: MeeshMeesh and The Fat Lamb. MeeshMeesh is wildly popular and books out 60 days in advance, so that wasn't happening--but I was able to secure a timely reservation at The Fat Lamb. That turned out to be a great decision. It was a pleasure meeting Dallas McGarity, the executive chef and owner. He shared that the restaurant has been open for about ten years and that he's preparing to open a new Italian concept. When the topic of his James Beard nomination came up, he mentioned it was a complete surprise--the restaurant didn't self-nominate--which made the recognition feel even more meaningful. One thing I neglected to ask him directly was why lamb plays such a central role on the menu. Our server wasn't entirely sure either, but she did explain how the restaurant got its name. Apparently, Dallas was traveling through the countryside, spotted a particularly memorable "fat lamb" on a farm, and the name stuck. Sometimes it really is that simple. With four of us dining, we may have gone a bit overboard on starters--but no regrets. We shared the roasted Brussels sprouts, lamb kofta meatballs, fontina and truffle arancini, and the whipped feta and pita. Every dish was well-executed and easy to share, which made them ideal for a business dinner. For entrées, my wife and I split the signature tandoori and ancho spice-roasted lamb chops. They were flavorful without being heavy, and the black barbecue sauce added a nice depth. Our server highly recommended the Moroccan-spiced halibut, which our other guests shared and thoroughly enjoyed--especially the mushroom demi-glace. Dessert was the Nutella mousse, another house signature. The Italian cherries and chocolate shavings were a great finishing touch without pushing things into overly sweet territory. Beyond the food, what really stood out was the service and pacing. The evening flowed naturally--never rushed, never dragging--which is exactly what you want when entertaining clients or colleagues. The Fat Lamb delivered a memorable, well-rounded dining experience and easily earned its reputation. I'd happily return, whether for business or just a great night out.

Waiter was so knowledgeable of the menu and cuisine, giving recommendations and tips. A nice glass of wine paired with a plata of steak, rice, and beans-- couldn't be that. Everything one menu looked incredible. I will 100% be back.

Yum! The guacamole and plantains were a delicious start. I also very much enjoyed the empanada…read moretrio, which was a unique experience compared to other restaurant empanadas. The table of sauces offered a nice compliment. The cons of the meal was my mojito (and that I wanted a frozen daiquiri but they could only offer it on the rocks). While it tasted nice, the glass was more ice than drink and not worth the price tag. The metal chairs are not comfortable for all guests. The restaurant is quite loud. You will be yelling across the table at each other. I would never come here with a large group because conversation would be impossible. The restaurant takes reservations on Open Table but threatens a charge of $20 pp if you cancel. Based on the crowd waiting for tables, there's no reason this policy should be in place. It was a turn off that almost caused us to pick another spot. Thankfully I took a chance to call and book a table without the request for my credit card. Parking is also tricky in this area. Their parking lot is almost nonexistent! Other spaces are reserved for other buildings. Be careful not to be towed.

The Memorial Hall is a good place to start with a short educational video, some small exhibits, and the gift shop. The Memorial Visitor Center closes from 12-1 pm for lunch, so plan accordingly if you need to use the nice clean bathrooms or fill your water bottle. The park includes a pioneer cemetery, a living history farm, a memorial to the Lincoln family cabin, and some short trails. When we visited (late May) on a weekday morning, there were no historical interpreters at the living history farm, and the buildings were all locked. I'm not sure when the living history farm is functional, but it looks like it would be fun. I highly recommend the Trail of Twelve Stones, which leads you through the peaceful woods along a path which houses 12 stones from significant locations in Lincoln's life.

This was basically my last spot in my pilgrimage to all things Lincoln. This was probably the least interesting of all the sites that I listed above, The visitor's center has a small gift shop, the usual National Park rangers to give you maps and knowledge and a theatre to watch a little film about the Honest One himself. From there you walk up to the Pioneer Cemetery where there is a memorial for Abe's mother Nancy who is buried somewhere near that spot. She died of milk sickness all because a cow ate a snakeroot plant! Thank God for modern medicine! Anyway from there you walk up to replica of the cabin they would have lived in and an active farm that looks as it would have when Lincoln was there. The last spot is a spring that the Lincoln's would have carried water from. All in all it was a mile walk each way. You can drive closer to some of these spots as well if you lack feet. All in all I'm glad the place exists but it's not a must do spot for the casual history buff.
