Been meaning to try this place for some time now and we finally made it here. Located on a busy corner all by itself I expected it to be noisy but, it was quiet and nice inside. The decor is a bit dated and I was expecting cheap Japanese but, it's not. I am guessing if you did takeaway it probably is and or if you did the izakaya dishes its ok. Sushi however is reasonably expensive here. For me this is more like a 3.5 stars but happy to give it a 4.
The positives here is the wide ranging menu, excellent starters, good selection of sake and good vegetarian options. The negatives were slow service (it was busy and there was one waiter), sashimi was good but not special and the waiter did not understand what we wanted and, ended up bringing us 4 desserts instead of two.
My starter of eggplant in miso sauce was delicious and I loved it. I was hoping for great things after this dish. There were quite a few Japanese people eating here and that set the expectation even higher. My sashimi arrived last after the other two people on my table had finished eating and looked fabulous. The squid and prawn was excellent but the salmon and tuna was not so good. Over all the sashimi was a 3 star for me. The tuna was not melt in your mouth kind, neither was the salmon.
The dessert was similarly mixed. We ordered two desserts however, he ended up bringing us four, and I am not sure why. He charged us for four as well. The redbean ball was delicious and I loved it. The green tea ice cream and the balls were both somewhat disappointing.
I will definitely come back here and try the various bits of the menu. It's a good choice in the area. I would still prefer other places for Sashimi. I can't wait till they have zarusoba, a cold noodle dish and, one of my favourite summer time Japanese dishes. read more
