Let me set the stage. It's not a five star hotel resort. We rented it as an AirBnB managed by a…read morefront desk. No daily cleaning. Dump your own trash, etc. So for this type of rental, it's top notch. Here's why: The location is perfect. 5 min walk to Whaler's Village. Only 20 min walk all the way to Black Rock, the furthest beach away in the cove. Quick drive out to Highway 30. Easy, and I mean easy access to Lahaina (south) and Honolua or Kampala Bays (north). Choose if you want to shop grocery at Times or Safeway, same distance. Really perfect location. Our apartment was incredible. It didn't face the ocean but that's ok. They have some that do, or the pool. It was huge. Nicely decorated and clean. Lots of space. Two bedrooms and sofa bed. Foosball table. Beach stuff to borrow and even a wagon to haul stuff. Parking garage right there. Always found an open space. Bell hops were helpful and friendly. They got nice gym, clay tennis courts, swimming pool, hot tub, and BBQ grills. All well kept. I could go on but why? It was great condo to stay.

It usually features…read morecomfortable, spacious, fully furnished, well maintained 1-2 bedroom villas with full kitchens, refrigerators, microwaves and coffee makers at a great location on Kaanapali beach. Overall the spacious lush tropical grounds are beautifully maintained with two pools, a kiddie pool and two hot spas and featuring BBQ grills under a covered deck with chairs and tables. The whole complex is directly on the beach. There are no restaurant or bars on the property which is nice as it keeps crowds to a minimum. Unfortunately this visit fell well short. We rented two ninth floor villas, each with a different but beautiful view of the beach or the mountains. Unit 495 was a mountain facing two bedroom unit. It was clean, well maintained, probably recently renovated and up to the exemplary Kaanapali Ali'i standards we are used to. Unit 496 was an ocean facing villa showing it's age. One bathroom shower curtain showed spots of black mold. The lanai doors were incredibly hard to open requiring a maintenance person to come and repair them. The refrigerator ice/water dispenser leaked and there were stains from it and possibly something else down the front. Worst of all was the sickening smell of cigarette or possibly cigar smoke throughout the unit. This is unacceptable for a non smoking facility and quite unappealing. Electric air freshener units and odor disguising gel containers were provided but could only partly contain the smell in two of the bedrooms. The whole unit needs to be cleaned, sanitized and the lingering smoke scent removed. The bed in one of the bedrooms was regrettably very hard and painful for us to try to sleep on. Water to the entire complex had to be shutoff overnight for some kind of plumbing replacement work. Small plastic jugs of water were available at the front desk, this we found out by my son casually mentioning the inconvenience of the water shutoff to a facility staff member whi indicated that water would be delivered to the room upon request. When I called th efront desk, no delivery of this water to the room was available or offered. The outside bathrooms were under construction and we were directed to two porta potties, laughingly labeled as "Rest rooms", outside the buildings requiring a long walk to access. We should have been advised of this work before arriving as it was extremely inconvenient. The two large pools were getting shut down to access for maintenance or some other kind of issues. The two outside showers that are used to rinse off were unexpectedly shut down for a day so no rinsing off of sand. we noticed some younger guests simply entering the pools or spas with sand still over their feet and legs which resulted in a greta deal of sand at the bottom of the pools/spasOne night we attempted to access our two units only to finad all of our keys deactivated. The front desk could I understand any facility needs maintenance but having all this happen in the space of out two week stays was vey discouraging. I hope to return to Kaanapali Ali'i in the future but will definitely first be monitoring reviews and contacting the facility directly to try to determine what to expect. This is a discouraging turn in Maui vacation planning.

If you think I'm going to complain about staying in Kaanapali in a 5th-floor, ocean-facing room…read morewith a balcony you don't know me well. Knowing that I got a very good price for this 5-night stay may have influenced my rating, but during this recent stay it was difficult to find much fault. While the resort next door (Westin, also a Marriott property) experienced a 3-day power outage (no electricity, wi-fi, or AC, and only 1 elevator operational) the lights were on at the Marriott and all was excellent. What to know: * Property, like most along this stretch, is huge with 3 entirely separate swimming pools (the biggest one is in the middle) and multiple jacuzzis. * There's more than one parking garage and the small garage beside Napili Tower proved very convenient if staying in that tower (as I did). * Any request you may have is answered very promptly via text message. Need more coffee creamer? Need a light fixture swapped out? Is that bathroom door making a very loud noise when closing? Having trouble getting your laptop on the hotel's wi-fi? All of these were requests of mine and all were responded to with lightening fast speed. Very impressive. My gripes, small as they are?: * The front desk could use some more folks at the counter. Expect at least a short wait at all times; * The daily parking fee is $35 ($40 for valet) and I really wish hotels would stop with this money grab; * They have completely lost any beach they might have had. You can walk to the small beach access at the nearby Hyatt Regency but it's got no stretch of sand on which to linger. (Good snorkeling and a very nice beach are further down; walkable from here but it's a bit of a slog to do so with all of your beach gear). The lack of a beach at this property is really my sole reason for the less-than 5-star rating. * Though there's plenty of chaise lounges at the pools, snagging the shaded spots is a sport for early-risers. Claim your space by around 9 a.m. * The resort offers yoga, aqua-exercise, and more, but not on the weekends which seems an odd decision. There's all sorts of other things here that I didn't mention, mostly because I didn't use them (e.g. laundry). Overall, Kaanapali is a convenient place to stay, close to many nice beaches, and convenient to restaurants and shops. I'd happily stay here again.

But, the hotels response was ridiculous! 3 strips of outlets run by an electric generator for a hotel with 3 towers of rooms is unsat. They ran out quickly before someone figured out they should switch to a gas generator. That morning, they told us to get coffee from Starbucks, but walking there in the dark we found Starbucks not even open. The maintenance guy called food and beverage to put out some complimentary coffee but that never arrived. So we spent the day in Kīhei while they figured stuff out here in Kaanapali. After the entire day, we made it back and only the smallest of the three pools was able to be turned on, with far too many people in it then the next message we get is that there's an issue with HVAC, so we spent the night sweating instead of sleeping since the ventilation was blowing warm air. And opening your room window just let in hotter more humid air. Needless to say the maintenance team didn't have the skills to get their ship righted and we paid for it in discomfort. The front desk staff likely took the brunt of the heat, but they didn't seem to field the complaints very well judging by the several exchanges I watched while waiting in line for 13 minutes with only 1 clerk for a line that started with 2 that grew to 9. No urgency or backup at the counter so the audience grew while we all witnessed complaining and a poor response by the staff. The views are amazing though!

Such a sad day that I have to rate this recent experience at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club - Maui…read moreTower with the least number of stars. I have been a Marriott member for more than 20 years and expected much better from this brand and their property. 1) Upon check in on November 15, 2026 we were told by the front desk staff that we would receive housecleaning services on November 17th and 19th. This was even written on the room's card key holder. On November 17th, we bumped into a housekeeper cleaning a room 2 doors from ours and double checked with them about our scheduled cleaning today, but was told that we were not scheduled for any housecleaning services that day. Confused, I decided to go down to the front desk to double check on this and was told that, according to their system, we were definitely still scheduled for housecleaning service on the 17th, and they even asked me what time I preferred. Later that day, we had returned to our room, but it had still not been made up, so I contacted the front desk again to enquire about it, and was told he would check and call me right back. Moments later I received a call back and was told that they do not do housecleaning on Saturdays, and that our next housecleaning service would be scheduled for the 18th and 19th instead. Seriously?! So inconvenient, so disorganized, such bad communication on the part of the hotel. 2) Upon entering our room on the first day, we discovered that the coffee maker was not working and the liquid soap dispenser in the shower was empty. I called down to the front desk to report this and they said they would take care of it sometime that day. It was fixed by the time we returned later that day, but should not have happened to begin with! 3) The night before we were checking out we had an incident where the occupants in the room next door came back to their room at around 10.30pm and were talking and shouting so loud! I thought they would calm down and go to bed by 11pm so we waited, but they were still very loud and caused a huge disturbance to us as we couldn't sleep and had to wake up early to catch a flight the next morning. Come 11pm we decided to call the front desk to see that they could do about this disturbance and was told they would send security to ask the guests to quieten down as the hotel had a policy against loud late night noise. Security did come at around 11.10pm, but the occupants went right back to talking and shouting loudly whilst playing cards. I called the front desk about this continued disturbance and they once again sent security up to talk to them, but nothing changed, and it was already 11.30pm. I then decided to call the front desk to see what other options we had and they proposed calling the Maui Police in to talk to the rowdy guests, but we feared those guests, likely a bit drunk, would retaliate, so I declined calling the police, and asked if could just change rooms....at almost midnight now. At first I was told that they were fully booked, bit shortly after was told that they did have one room we could move to.....some relief! I then asked if they could bring the keys up to our room as we were already in our pajamas and had to start packing, but was told they didn't have any available staff to bring the keys up to our room and asked me to go all the way down to get them. I reluctantly hiked all the way down to get the new room keys and noticed that there were staff just standing around the front desk just chatting away with other staff. I was now really upset, but just wanted to get our things moved to the new room and to get some sleep before our early morning flight. Needless to say, we were so riled up all through the night that we did sleep a wink. The next morning, I went to the front desk and spoke to the staff about our experience, and she knew who I was and told me that a note about the incident was made for the Manager to look into as soon as he/she came in, and that we would receive a call that day. It's now been 3 days and I have not received a single call, email, or message.....nothing! I am truly disappointed with how this resort has treated us, a Marriott member even, as it shows very clear disrespect and disinterest toward their guests. Disgraceful. Very very disappointed, somewhat angry, and very saddened to have been treated this way by this brand that I have been a part of for so many years, and am now seriously considering cancelling my Marriott Membership altogether. As a side note, we came to stay here with other relatives and the condition of their room was just as bad as ours.....dirt on the carpet, hair on the walls and toilet seat, etc. This stay was, without a doubt, the worst Marriott experience in my entire life and we will certainly never be back here again. Incidentally, I have also sent my concerns to the resort's GM and Marriott's corporate office , but I seriously doubt if they care, or will bother, or if I'll be hearing from any of them anytime soon.

Always aloha and helpful. The pool decks on the regency and club sides are both great pools. The regency side has the kiddie pool with the slides and pebbled play area. The club side pool is large with plenty of lounge chairs for relaxing. There is always someone walking around to take food and drink orders. It is so helpful when I'm watching multiple kids. The food options in the resort had a good variety from dine in restaurants to snack shop, from choices of American to Asian fusion. The hotel layout encourages walking to enjoy the environment. I was able to put in 10-12K steps each day. The elevators are fast! The daily free activities are great for all ages and held in one of the pools or on the lawn with a great view of the beach. Their staff seemed cranky when they asked if we wanted to sit in the lounge for breakfast, and I countered with sitting in the main area by the pond -- since there were several four top tables open and the dining area clearly wasn't crowded. The host sat us there and loudly told our server that she "needed a margarita" because she was having such a long day already at 7am. Pretty annoying. Doesn't inspire anyone to want to stay and eat there, even with chase points. I do like Japengo. Excellent sushi and friendly servers. I do recommend that spot to eat. And really nice view almost anywhere outside overlooking the ocean. The coffee shop and general store they have inside the hotel is super convenient. The pools are clean enough. It's very family friendly. However, they are always crowded. So I kind of hate that -- and I have two kids myself. Additionally, it seemed like a lot of construction is currently going on around the fitness area. And you have to hike from the main tower to pretty much anywhere. Not as luxurious or as pristine as the Kauai location, like I said. So not a Hyatt thing. I think just this particular location.

Sometimes we get an ocean view where you can see a sliver of water. Another time we were next to their laundry units, which were loud. Other times we were ocean front and it was incredible to watch the whales. The little kitchenette is perfect. They are well stocked. And I love that you can do laundry. When we arrived, our villa contained power tools, dirty dishes, and had clearly not been properly prepared for guests. What was even more frustrating was that it took three separate face-to-face visits with both the front desk and management before the room was finally cleaned. Communication throughout the process was poor, and we never felt that anyone took real ownership of the issue. The only compensation offered was a $50 resort credit, which did not reflect the inconvenience or the time we spent trying to resolve a problem that should never have existed. Beyond our room, both the villas and many of the common areas felt worn, dingy, and lacking the level of care we have come to expect from the Westin brand. The most disappointing aspect of our stay wasn't simply the condition of the property--it was the apparent lack of urgency and concern from management. We have always associated Westin with quality, service, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, this experience fell well below those expectations. We hope management takes these concerns seriously because loyal owners and guests deserve much better.

We were also situated at the Moana building which was definitely the best spot at the hotel because you get the full view of Black Rock and the ocean rather than the resort grounds. Highly recommend getting a room in that section. Additionally, they gave us champagne, chocolates, and a personalized card for our anniversary! The lobby had such amazing views. We also loved the pool. Lots of pool seats available unlike other hotels. I guess it helps that it's at the end of the strip so you don't really have as much crowds coming through. We grabbed some snorkel gear to explore Black Rock and it was full of marine life. What a beautiful spot (I grew up on an island myself and will tell you it's a legit snorkeling experience). The food and beverage options were limited. Breakfast was pretty pricey so we decided to go elsewhere to try a little bit of everything for meals which we were planning to do anyway. We did get food at the pool bar - karaage chicken and fries were so good! We went back for the fries and got a fruit smoothie. One downside is that since the Moana building was at the end of the property so we had to take several elevator rides through the hotel just to get to the lobby. That was fine since it encouraged us to get our steps in but could be frustrating. All in all a wonderful experience!
