I will never go again and never spend another penny there. The rooms kinda sucked and were horribly overpriced, the food was not good quality (over priced), and the security there was a JOKE. My husband and I are local to Wheeling, but wanted a fun weekend getaway. Absolutely loved doing this. It was an early fall weekend, so the days were warm with beautiful leaves. The nights were a little chilly, and we enjoyed having a drink outside by the fire. We go on the hiking trails quite a bit, but this was my first time staying at the lodge and exploring the restaurants for good food and drinks. The lodge was decorated top to bottom with Christmas decorations that really made me excited for the holiday season. We'll definitely be back for another staycation soon read more

After allowing visitors to feed deer, which then lured them in, now they're hosting a bow hunting event November 6-8, 2023 to kill these deer to reduce the population that they allowed in the first place. Bow hunting is one of the most harmful and torturous ways to kill these precious, defenseless animals. Great resort for winter time. Took our family here for a long weekend getaway. The winter festival and lights were beautifully well done. The main lodge was decorated with live music each night including hot chocolate for the kiddos. With a zoo on property and multiple restaurants, this is a great getaway for families with small children. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The only downside were the rooms. Though not dirty, they were dated and could use a facelift. So could I though. With that being said, we will be coming back in the summer time to utilize the large outdoor pool and rest of the grounds. read more

unfortunately, concert venue said it was Pittsburgh so we rented this resort. Then day of concert we find out it's actually at Penn State. Resort would not work with us whatsoever to cancel reservations. Then arrived at 4 AM. Had to wait for 15 minutes for front desk staff to assist us. Room at 4:30 AM, then housekeeping, banging doors and having five minute long conversations and laughing three doors down from our room after not getting to bed until around five. Then front office refused to delay checkout for an hour so that we could get a little rest. I will not be back. Oglebay is a great place with lots to see and do. The zoo is great, but take note that if you go during the Festival of Lights after 4pm, you can't see any of the outside animals. You're limited to the very few inside the main building. The good part, is that if you do go after 4, they usually give you a free pass to come back another day (since the price isn't discounted). The park is beautifully maintained throughout the entire year. The shops offer a wide range of goodies and merchandise. The Manson Museum is an interesting self guided tour, well worth it. The glass museum isn't really worth it unless there's a glass blower on duty for demonstrations. If there's not one there, you can walk through the whole thing in 10 minutes. Pricing can vary greatly depending on what activities you're looking to do, so make sure to do your research while planning your trip. All in all, Oglebay is a great place any time of year, whether you're popping in for a few hours or a few days. Do yourself a favor and check it out! read more

We visited Oglebay Park on Thursday 12/30/21. My mother wanted to see the Christmas displays at the mansion museum, and we all wanted to see the lights after. I was really surprised and dismayed by the lack of hospitality by several park employees - so much so that I wanted to write this review. I have never given a review with less than 4 stars. 3:15pm- we entered the mansion museum to purchase tickets. There was no greeting by the man at the desk, so we asked about ticketing options. My mother had an Oglebay gift card and when she went to use it, the employee shouted that his "machine doesn't take cards!" We didn't know if that meant credit cards as well, so we paid cash. His behavior was very rude and uncalled for. He gave no apologies for the inconvenience. Also - what can you use an Oglebay gift card, if not for a museum tour? We also purchased tickets for the Glass museum. The Christmas displays were very nice and the museum was very well organized and informative. We enjoyed the history and experience. 4:20pm- We walked over to the Glass Museum and approached the ticket booth. We handed our tickets to the employee (again, no greeting!). The first words out of her mouth were, "Glass blower's gone for the day!" That was fine - we wanted to see the museum anyway. But why would you begin your interaction with a guest with such negativity? As we walked through the displays, you could hear the ticket booth employee blowing her nose for several minutes. She was talking to another employee in the ticket booth about her illness, saying things like, "I don't know where all this is coming from." and "I've had this for 5-6 days," and "I can't taste or smell." OMG!! She was unmasked and describing her covid symptoms to her co-worker. Both were unmasked! The glass museum was very nice and the displays were informative. We didn't stick around long and went to the Glasshouse grill next. Our server was WONDERFUL. She spoke with an accent and was one of the few servers wearing a mask. It was very busy, but she was extremely attentive and kind.She also knew how to process a gift card! Our meal was great. After dinner, we drove through the Festival of Lights. At the donation booth, my husband handed a donation to the park employee that was above the suggested donation. Not even a thank you! Not even a greeting! Just a "do you want to donate?" Why is everyone here so angry? From this experience, you can be certain that Oglebay employees are not instructed in hospitality, kindness, or consideration. By allowing employees with COVID to come to work unmasked, it is clear they also do not care about their guests. There isn't much else to do in this area, so they can get away with this behavior. The region is very economically depressed and years of this has trickled down to a hardened, rough, and rude attitude amongst the people here. There are many places within a short drive that are more deserving of your dollar. read more

I went there for a conference through work. Which is paid for by my employer. They asked me for a card to keep on file incase there were damages or I charged something to the room. I thought it was shady since they did not ask everyone in our group and it was being paid for by my employer but I did it. When it's time to check out they charged my debit card for the room instead of my employers card. So right there I lost 425.00 from my account and another girl with me had no money left in her checking account and she had a long drive home. So after some arguing they say they will credit our cards back but it will take a few days. I go back to my conference and the bank sends me a notification saying I have a double charge. I check my statement and they BILLED me again instead of refunding my money!!!! I talked to a Leslee and she said she did it on accident but she canceled it. So I had to contact my bank and file a complaint because I have still not received my money back. I feel like they literally stole 850.00 out of my account. They didn't seem very apologetic about it at all and I have bills to pay. I will take legal action if I have to. Everyone should watch their cards when they go there. read more

I can't begin to say how incredibly disappointing this experience was. The rooms are very small, at least where we stayed and it was not cheap. Very small bathrooms, very uncomfortable. Be prepared to wait for quite awhile during the check in process, and for the possibility that your room isn't ready at the promised time. My biggest complaint of my stay is their inability to follow through on what is promised. For example, I'm sitting here at what is supposed to be a buffet breakfast (that was PAID for in advance), but instead we are ordering off a very small menu with an extremely understaffed waiter/waitress brigade. We sat for 25 minutes before a waitress even acknowledged our presence and that's only because I tracked her down. Many unhappy people here right now. They told us places like the Crispin Christmas shop would be open yesterday- it wasn't. The times they gave us for certain events were not always consistent. Wait times at other shops were very long supposedly due to new computer systems. We spent a lot of money here, and are leaving pretty disappointed. We are not alone. Step your game up Oglebay, you can do better. There are a lot of positives about this place, I'm just not in the mood to talk about them at the moment! ; ) read more

Sooooo.. had high expectations for this place and was pretty disappointed. The grounds are beautiful as is the golf course, but the beauty stops there. For $350 a night you get - a moldy shower (in a "premium room), a dirty not so hot hot tub with black mold, algae and peeling paint chips everywhere, severely rotted wood around the pool area, broken sauna, ridiculously overpriced mediocre bar food. The nice part is our dogs are able to come with us. So much potential, but there are many $150-200/night IHG and Hilton properties for less money that this place should be a kin to at a minimum. read more

An amazing park in my home town! There is a pool, lake, zoo, lake, Wilson Lodge, and many cottages, and walking trails! They have the annual Festival of Lights, which have made Wheeling famous across West Virginia, Fourth of July fireworks, the Ohio county Fair, and Fort Henry Days, a Weekend Festival depicting the famous battle in Wheeling. My husband and I went to the Zoo there for the animal encounter. We spent $176.00 to interact with a Serval and a Bobcat. Our guide, Sharon was wonderful! She was very enthusiastic and informative! The only complaint my husband and I had was we did not know the felines were the only animal encounter that was effected by COVID (apparently, the cats can transfer the disease). We may have chosen a different encounter if we knew this. When the COVID issues have passes, we will definitely be back !!! read more

I would not recommend spending your money on a trip to Oglebay. I found this whole resort to be dirty,out of date, and not up to par for what they charge. The room we stayed in was out of date and not worth the price we payed for them. The carpets looked like it was stained with something red. The pool area was gross, and dangerous. The steps to the hot tub looked like they had mold on them. The hot tub itself had a giant ring around it. The floor was covered in an inch of water. The breakfast was way over priced for cold, burnt, mediocre food. There were no signs anywhere for anything inside or outside of the resort. The whole thing was a maze. They took off our festival package when we used our triple A discount. And to top it all off, the tour guide for the trolley ride for the festival lights started to talk about politics and immigrants over the loud speaker. That was totally unprofessional, and ruined the experience for the children. The good things we experienced was the mansion museum, the glassworks museum, the glassworks restaurant and bartenders, the zoo was okay, but again no signs, and the lights were pretty! Also, the lady at the front desk Leslee was amazing! I appreciate all of the time she spent listening to our grievances. She was so kind! She was one of the nicest employees there! read more

Isn't it enough that you charge $37.50 for your buffet, $30 per car for your light display that you rarely update, and $179 for a small room in Wilson Lodge? Evidently not! I can not believe that your after Christmas sales in all of your shops are 20% to 50%, with 90% of the Christmas items that are only 20% off!!! AFTER CHRISTMAS SALES ARE ALWAYS 50% OFF, NOT A MEASLY 20% OFF!!!! Stop trying to suck your loyal customers dry!!! The pandemic and inflation have hit all of us hard, so cut us a break by at least having decent after Christmas sales. Don't kick us while we are down!!! read more

Stayed at the The Oglebay on a visit to West Liberty University which is close by. Overall nice resort. Grateful for a few vegan options as the area does not have many. The rooms could use a little updating and the bathrooms are a little tight; however, they are maintained and clean. Staff is friendly and engaging. We visited in winter and it seems like the outdoors space would be even more amazing in the summer months. read more

This place is wonderful! The holiday nightly live music was wonderful. They also have games provided in the community lounge. Breakfast was delicious all good on campus was super good. When we were there, it was extremely cold and our kids got sick so we had to cancel one day, but we're hoping to go back in the summer. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. I bet this place is Rockin in the summer. Everything on the resort is beautifully maintained. The rooms were a little dated. And dusty in the floor was a little gross but besides that it was a wonderful experience. read more

Terrible way to run a vacation spot. Our family goes to places where we are able to have 7-8 bedrooms and large kitchens and gathering areas. We thought we would try Ogelbay for the first time. Well we won't be going there because they cancelled our reservation. We had a contract and put a large deposit down for an 8 bedroom cabin 7 months in advance. They contacted us and told us we could not have an 8 bedroom cabin because a large group was renting multiple units out and was taking our cabin. They offered us 2 4 bedroom cabins. That is unexceptable. Our family needs to be in one cabin. They said they wouldn't give us our 8 bedroom. So they cancelled our reservation all together. Is it common practice to bump someone out just because a bigger group came along? Who runs a business this way. Well a place we will NEVER go to or recommend. So now we only have a few months to find another large place. Good luck to us. read more

Highly disappointed with our most recent stay over the NYE holiday. I have been coming to Oglebay for 20+ years and have always had fond memories, but this most recent stay will deter me from coming back or recommending their resort to friends and family. Our cabin smelled strongly in 1 of the bedrooms of tar/gasoline. We called about it and the park ranger agreed that it smelled as well. He sent 2 maintenance men who said they "had colds" and couldn't smell anything. We were able to move our kids around to the other bedrooms within the cabin, but were unable to utilize one of our 4 bedrooms due to the strong smell. They did not have a solution to our problem. We were also DISGUSTED by the condition of the pool area. I have attached pictures. There were no clean towels anywhere. We had to go down to the front desk to request towels which were eventually brought to the pool area. There were however, PLENTY of dirty, used towels all over the chairs and floor. This area looked as though it hadn't been cleaned in days. The game room was dirty, and the women's locker room was disgusting as well. Our stay was highly disappointing and not worth the money we spent. read more

We enjoyed an excellent lunch at the Oglebay Glassworks bar & grille. We were seated in the dining room right away by the hostess. My lunch of a hot press turkey and really tasty bacon sandwich with fresh fruit. Bob had three small sausage hot dogs on buns with fries. Then we splurged on a blueberry neapolitan cake--chocolate cake with a layer of white chocolate whipping cream and blueberry mousse served with blueberries. There's a golf course on a hillside we didn't get to play, a fabulous glass museum, plant shop, gardens, mansion, and lovely gardens. A great place to stop or stay. We travel constantly across the US so therefore we have seen a lot of parks. This one, to us, stuck out because of the views!! Just beautiful! We came here for Boo at the Zoo, Oglebayfest, and to visit the various museums and stores. We had a wonderful time all three occasions. This is somewhere to you really want to stop and see, especially if you have young children. The museum was very informative and interesting if you are interested in yonder years. The Zoo is small but if you go on Sundays you can experience animal encounters so that was fun for our daughter. read more

Went to the resort and was in Cabin with family to attend wedding. Reservations were all screwed up an nobody knows what they are doing. Had to change cabins that sucked as blew a day moving. Cabin not appointed well, needs a complete renovation out of 1970 and was NOT clean. Had to call as sheets were dirty and bedding needed to changed. Lots of bugs. Sad as could be nice but see that resort management does not care from rude front desk, poor reservations and no quality control of up keep. Oglebay resort was a great place for our extended family to enjoy a short getaway. We saw the holiday light display on the trolley. It was pricey at $18/person. We enjoyed the pool and game room. Beautiful facility! We arrived at night and couldn't tell how impressive this resort was at first glance. The layout of the building was a bit confusing, but the rooms were comfortable and fit the environment perfectly. The landscaping was great. The color of the flowers throughout the campus really gave you the feeling that place is constantly cared for. We played golf on the Arnold Palmer course and I found it challenging, but fun. To say "there are a lot of hills" would be the understatement of the century. (They actually give you a rundown about how to handle the carts on the steep hills before they let you play.) The wildlife was abundant, and in addition to a fox, counted about 40 deer throughout the course. We only played one of the three available courses, so I can't give any opinion of how they play. We did however, visit the local casino and it's pretty sketchy. Low table limits, but a lot of smokers. Come, play golf, but play enough of it that you're too tired to do anything else. read more

This place is an absolute joke of a golf resort. 1. Pay for a resort stay and get 1 small bucket of balls. Terrible 2. Starter Tim is about as pleasant as running into a cactus. Rushes you off the tee so you can wait for a 5 hour round. Rangers are nowhere to be seen on course to help with pace of play. 3. Literally forced to wait an hour at our first tee box to wait for the rest of the groups, so we can wait for every shot during the round. 4. Course is great, hospitality is not. read more

Well the place is nice however it will cost you. We went during a holiday weekend. The complimentary breakfast was very nice the staff was pleasant but the food was flat. It was served buffet style and tasted ok the presentation was bad. I'm not a buffet person I do like the idea of variety but everything was over cooked and sloppy. On our recent stay we learned that there is no "stay-over" service provided for the rooms. After waiting for our room to be cleaned and towels replaced we called housekeeping and had to leave a message. We finally went to the front desk and were told that there is no service for stay over guests. The girl at the front desk said we should have been told that upon checking in. We were not told anything nor were our friends. I was handed a stack of towels and no further assistance was provided. If this is to be the norm, guests should be informed. Perhaps something in writing would go a long way toward communicating this "new" policy. read more

Oglebay West Spa is amazing. I've had several massages by Kurre - she truly is one of the very best. Whether I'm have a deep tissue massage or a swedish massage I always leave very relaxed and refreshed. I've also had The West Spa Experience massage by Amy - also a rejuvenating massage. The relaxation room/waiting area is what sets this spa apart from so many others. I have been to many spas in the tri-state area and none compare to the West Spa. The waiting room is a huge part of the experience. I often get there an hour early just to sit there and decompress before or after my massage. I highly recommend Oglebay spa - much, much, MUCH better than Nemacolin! read more
