    CoHatch - Shared coffee bar

    CoHatch

    Broad Ripple

It's no secret that I'm a fan of CoHatch, a 30+ location network of co-working, community spaces…read morethat has been in existence for just under 10 years since its start by six friends in Columbus, Ohio. CoHatch, which has hosted at least a couple Yelp events that I can remember, currently has five locations in Central Indiana (a sixth, Circle Centre, I believe has closed). The locations include Polk Stables, Zionsville, Carmel, Noblesville, and this location in Broad Ripple. This location is housed in a former church (I know it used to be Common Grounds and I'm pretty certain it was at least one church before that). There's still some of the stained glass windows present. Managed by Jenna, whom I met during a Polk Stables Yelp event, this location seems to be quite busy. While I didn't get a chance to go around it as much as I'd have liked as I was here for an actual meeting, I was impressed with the decor, amenities, the people I met, and the efforts to make it accessible. Let's start there. Not every CoHatch location is truly accessible - they tend to locate in unique and often historic buildings. This can create challenges to true accessibility. This location has accessible parking in the back along with a ramp that goes up to one of the doorways. If you're not a member, you'll have to be let in. I wasn't completely thrilled with the end of the ramp - it's got a bit of a lip to it, however, the effort is obvious and it definitely works. The parking is also truly ADA compliant. I didn't notice all the businesses here, however, I did note that the Sagamore Institute maintains offices here. This location has the usual coworking spaces, a large event space, an outdoor area with a patio and kitchen, a sports simulator, and private offices. They have high-speed Wifi, coffee/tea options, meeting rooms (we used one to record an interview), 24/7 access, phone booths, office supplies, mailbox service, printing/copying, workshops for members, a kitchen, and an onsite manager. The neighborhood feels safe and is a pretty easy jaunt over to Broad Ripple's main strip. I like the decor, though found it a bit more plain than some of the locations. I think Polk Stables remains my favorite of the Central Indiana locations. This location is probably the closest to my home and it's definitely someplace I could see myself working. As someone who does a lot of social outreach/charity work, I definitely saw spaces I could bring to life here. I also did notice the restroom offered nice accessibility and there were some personal supplies in the restrooms - nice touch. I'd wanted to stop into this place and was pleased when I found out a meeting was going to be here. I finally got to check it out and was definitely impressed.

I liked that they had maintained the structure and tried to continue the architectural flairs and quiet spaces yet allowing for new design inside. It is used for various offices and you can either rent out an office space (small cubicle) or just work in one of the many co-work spaces. It was tasteful and expansive but also had several little nooks for a quieter space. There were outside spaces and even a Barbeque space that could be rented for parties or business outings. My meeting was a fun way to be exposed to this location and will definitely be returning to try out some of the other spots for meetings or work.

Inside an old car assembly plant, this mixed use building offers a ton of options to linger about. Firstly, there are old cars displayed throughout the building to observe. There are some other old equipment there as well that I can't name. There are a few art installations of road signs that are outdoors, and then a lot of art studio spaces indoors have some of their works displayed on the outside. It's kind of fun to navigate the maze of the building to find everything. Retail wise, there is a plant store, a trinket shop, and an art supply shop, amongst others I'm probably forgetting as well. Food wise, you have Indy classics like Cafe Patachou and Amelia's bakery. There's also Turner's bar and Julieta Taco Shop. Again, amongst others I'm probably forgetting as well. The Stutz is a fairly large building and I have definitely gotten lost in there before. It is also a pretty cool event space, where they can have event pop ups like the Indy Indie Book Crawl. I know I've also been to a vintage market there too. Parking near the Stutz is mainly street parking around Capitol and 11th Streets as well as the parking lot across Capitol Street. It's also pretty easy to access from walking the Canal, taking the stairs up at the 10th street access points You can enter the Stutz itself at many different access points, but I recommend a stroll through some of the interior courtyards on your way in!

Really gorgeous coworking space in the famous Indianapolis Pyramids. You know--I don't think I'd…read moreever been in the Pyramids before. I've driven past them a hundred thousand times on 465. But never had the chance to go in them. Cowork 1010 is a side project of Office 1010. Office 1010 sells office furniture and had decked the space out with all the best in office chairs, desks, cabinets, etc. Then they thought "Why not use this space for actual work!" That means that all the furniture is top-notch, literally show room stuff. There were lots of comfy chairs as well as comfortable but very work ready office chairs. There were two conference rooms and a coworking room in addition to the main space in the middle. Power outlets were everywhere and there were screens with access to show presentations, etc., if needed. There were also multiple "phone booths" that allowed for more isolated phone calls or video chats. And even a two person phone booth for a mini-conference space if needed. Some of the comfy chairs had head surrounds to keep the sound out so you could work mostly in quiet. The views from the conference rooms were gorgeous. I have to take video calls fairly regularly in my job, and I'd love to have the people I'm talking to see those views behind me. There also was a fully stocked kitchen with fridges, a fancy coffee maker that could make everything (similar to what Ikea has in their cafe), and a flowing free beer tap. I even swung into the men's room to see how it looked. It was clean and well lit. I wouldn't be uncomfortable using it throughout the workday. The pricing was the only iffy point. There are many much cheaper options around the city. Several of the other attendees at the open house I was at mentioned it. Currently, I just work from home. So I didn't have a lot of comparison shopping prices in my head. But others said that the prices weren't in line with competition. That said, the Canadian brothers who ran it pointed out that many of the other alternatives aren't in such a prestigious building or decked out to the nines like this space. If you're in the market for a coworking space, it's worth checking this one out. I really loved the look of it and would be happy to work in there from time to time as needed.

The interior is huge, with so many nooks and crannies for you to work, take a phone call, or have a meeting. I love that there are standing desks available, as well as funky booths along the wall. Platform definitely has its own character! The kitchen is a Dream with a Starbucks machine for all your coffee, tea, and hot chocolate needs, multiple fridges, microwaves, and even a tap with beer and kombucha (though it was out while I was there). The kitchen and dining space is huge and semi-private so those taking a break to eat and hang out won't be disruptive to those working away in the main space or private rooms. The WiFi worked wonderfully the whole time I was there on both occasions. The first time there were up to 50 of us using it at once. The second, close to 20 in our group and a few others using the space. If Platform was a little closer to where I live, I could totally see myself investing in a membership. It's beautiful, spacious, and the type of place where I can picture myself being super productive and enjoying the energy of working alongside others. If you're in Carmel, come check it out. It's worth a visit!

My first and most recent experiences have been out of this stellar location, right in the heart of the Circle City. I mean, what's not to love? Great location, beautiful and modern space, reliable wi-fi, incredibly friendly staff, never ending coffee, awesome local business... I could go on and on. This is definitely my style of coworking, they truly do an amazing job. I love the natural light thanks to the giant windows that wrap around the entire space. It's on the third floor so you get a little bit of a view, which is always nice. Overall, the vibe is just on point. The only cons I can think of revolve around the parking situation. The street parking can be very limited given the location. The prices can get up there depending on what you're looking for but honestly, there's a little something for everyone. If you're looking for co-working space, you'd be a fool to not check this place out.

They have offered such a warm welcome from the start and feel like an extension of my own coworkers. Lets be clear, the floor to ceiling windows overlooking Mass Ave and wine in the afternoon doesn't hurt either. A few more reasons to consider Industrious as your next coworking space or a meet up location for a team retreat: -private phone booths -plentiful natural light -high quality snacks and drinks shared throughout the day -programming and educational opportunities -location in the heart of Mass Ave (over-ish Garden Table to give you an idea) -printing resources -small touches like mouthwash in the bathrooms and guest coffee roasters from other Industrious markets throughout the country -your membership will provide you with access to all other Industrious locations which is exceptionally handy for folks like me who travel fairly frequently with work/need spaces like this from time to time
