Wow, it's been a long while since I encountered abysmal customer service that I find it so shocking when it does occur. I've been printing our annual holiday letter at Office Depot here in Chantilly for close to 15 years. It's just 200 color two-sided copies, pretty straightforward. I apply a corporate discount card to give me a significant discount on the total price. I've given praise when it's gone smoothly, but likewise when it goes terribly I have to call it out. Wednesday at 5pm, there are two people working the entire store. And it's fairly empty, to be fair. A manager and a print center employee. I waited at the counter for a minute, and the manager asked if I needed help. Here's the exchange: I said yes, I'd like to make 200 color copies of a file on this USB drive. "Oh, well if you want to leave it here with us you can pick it up tomorrow afternoon." "No, I actually need it this evening. It's a 10-minute print job on the big machines." "Well we are really busy." (Zero, I mean none of the machines are actively printing or doing anything. They're all dark.) "Well I've always just walked up with my print job and maybe waited 20-30 minutes for other people ahead of me, but I know this isn't labor-intensive; it's just set to print and let the machine do its thing." "Oh, you would have had to email the file to us to get in the queue." "Really? For 15 years I've just walked up!" "That's been our policy for several years now; after 2pm we can't guarantee same day pickup." "Here's my receipt from last year, sir. I literally walked in, waited 30 minutes, picked up my print job at this price per copy." "3 hours before closing?" "Yes, for a 10-minute print job!" "Well, I can suggest self-service." "Will I be able to apply my corporate discount code?" "Yes, you can." Then, 15 minutes of wrestling with the self-service machine. Doesn't accept my corporate discount card, pricing is 3x higher than my discount rate, won't allow me to print more than $75 worth of the pre-authorized amount on my debit card, and manager of course disappears to back of store. Print Center employee takes pity, asks if he can help. He tells me the machine is charging me full-price for self-service print rates; I said I don't mind setting this to print but I want the rates my company has negotiated. Can the manager adjust the price after I've printed? He walks over to get the manager to ask. Manager says there's a new discount program, I can't get my negotiated rates at self-service counter. "Ok, so you're telling me I can pay 22c per copy at the full service Print Center but I'd have to wait 24 hours to get my print job back for the 15 minutes of actual manpower it will take. But if I do the labor for you at the self-service machine, you'll charge me 66c per copy. Essentially 3x more expensive and I'm doing the actual work for you?" "Well you can't skip the line, it's hours before closing, and we are very busy." (Again, no machines are running. None. I'm the only customer in the store.) Then he adds, "If you need it tonight, I'd recommend the self-service like I told you before." "At 22c per contract rate?" "No, I can't adjust the prices." "Aren't you the store manager?" The guy was argumentative and a giant blowhard with zero customer service skills. Wasn't willing to help me or honor contract pricing. Just wanted to count the minutes til he could close the store. Really...everything was so, so different in December 2022, just a year ago? No wonder the company is going under. In another year, with this attitude at the manager level, I wouldn't be surprised if it shutters its doors. I drove 5 miles down the road to the other Office Depot location in Fairfax, walked right up with my USB drive, and the Print Center employee printed my letter in under 10 minutes at the contract rate. This place was a bit of a ghost-town when I went to the print shop. The woman helping me with my print job was fantastic, even though I was a bit of a difficult customer, and my 3 year old son was being difficult and removing things from the shelves he shouldn't. She got me exactly what I wanted, and was very helpful. I think the person who did my prints, actually came back from break early since the person trying to fill in wasn't well versed in the print shop. Even though they were low on staff, I felt cared for. This is where I'm going to go if I need anything else printed in the future. read more

At this location his name is Mike and he juggled three customers, efficiently helped them, and made each one feel like they had his full attention. Office Depot's remote print and ship service made a major error on a print joy I ordered online. I took the problem to Mike at the Chantilly site's print shop. Easy access, easy exit near Route 50 & Hiway 28. Stock up at CostCo, bargain hunt at Targets, go to Five Guys for a burger and top it off with a Starbucks Cappuccino. What makes this place unique? The sell stamps and offer all the same services at the US Post office, 7 days a week! They carry everything you would expect from a franchise office supply store. I do like their store specials on the weekends. They have a table right in front as you enter with close items or reduced stock items that are drastically reduced. So I came in here because it's close and the prices were cheaper than other places. I realized why. I walked in two days ago to get a chrome/amazon/roku stick. I ordered it online. I got the wrong one, but I also got a 25% coupon that HAD to be used yesterday in store. So I went after work (bringing my baby with me) to get the one I wanted (only USB, no platform no power cord). I walked in and was greeted Best Buy style. I asked the guy for one of those sticks. He walks me down an aisle and then goes "oh not sure where it is, she can help" and points to another lady. He gets her attention and she says she's in the middle of something, but asks what he needs. He goes oh she's looking for...um what are you looking for again? I tell him the stick. The lady points to another gentleman saying it's in the closet locked so go see him. The guy walks me over to him and says "she needs umm...what is it again?" Now I'm rolling my eyes like how hard is this? So the guy walks me toward the cage and I say I'm looking for the one with ONLY a usb plug that's all. He points me to two different ones. One is $10 more. I say what is the difference. He goes the brand. Um okay. So he pulls one out, and I start reading it and it says includes plug. I said I need just the usb (for the 5th time). And he goes where does it say that? I point and he goes no it should work. I said okay I'll take it but what is your return policy if it doesn't work? He goes it will work. I go to the register show the coupon, and he reads the super fine print, number 3, that I can't use it. Fine whatever. go home and find out that I have to have it plugged in. WHY ARE THESE PEOPLE SO INCOMPETENT? Returning this crap and never going back there again. read more

I ordered in office chair from my Home Office and it arrived smelling like mildew and disgusting. I called customer service to arrange a return and a replacement chair sent. Office depot then proceeded to charge me $30 more for the replacement chair. When I called to ask them why they couldn't price match they transferred me around and made it very difficult. I had to cancel the replacement and will just be arranging for them to pick up the nasty mildew chair. read more

Due to COVID and the fact that trying to find TP is beyond ridiculous, I noticed that Office Depot had some in stock online and would ship for free. Each "mega pack" was only twelve rolls of the Scott Brand. Office Depot was charging $37.00 PER pack and the limit was two so I purchased two packs. I actually found the exact same item sold at another store for the actual price ($12). When the TP from Office Depot was delivered, I attempted to bring one back to return. When I arrived at the store, masked & gloved up, the salesperson immediately told me that this item was not returnable. No where on the website, my receipt nor anywhere in the store does it say that certain items are final sale. I promptly left and emailed customer service. It took a week for customer service to reply and when I questioned the company about non-disclosure of items that are final sale, the customer service rep's explanation was, "I want you to know that for the safety of our associates and customers, we are not allowing certain designated items to be returned. We are unable to trace these items once they leave our facilities and for this reason they cannot be re-stocked. We appreciate your understanding." How are you concerned about my safety when I had to leave my house to return an item to the storefront to only find out that it is not accepted? This company is charging $37.00 for a twelve pack of TP! Beyond disgusted with this company especially since they are profiting off of the COVID situation. read more

Already knew exactly what I wanted to purchase, and this happened to be the closest location to pick it up. I only had a few questions for a floor associate about a router, which I assumed would take 2 minutes tops. I ended up waiting 15 minutes at the front desk for a floor associate (called multiple times by cashier), to which my final answer was "He will be back there a while sooo....." I'll stick with staples next time. read more

We purchased a laptop from this store last fall and since then it has been plagued with problems. We have had to take it in to be looked at at least 4 times, and the computer itself has been replaced twice. They have sold us three defective computers, one after another. When we asked them to transfer the data from the second laptop they gave us to the new, "fixed" one, they destroyed months of work and simply ignored certain files because "they didn't look important enough". It was obvious that none of the employees knew what they were doing. I am very disappointed in how they have handled our situation. I would not recommend this store at all. If you want a computer or need to have yours fixed, go to Best Buy or Walmart instead! read more

I was in a bind and needed a specific product quickly. I verified the item was available online and went to the store to purchase. I was helped by two employees and both provided fast service and helpful answers. The store was clean, well stocked, and had plenty of functional products on display for testing. Out of curiosity after my purchase I checked the stock count of the product I purchased online and it was updated to reflect my purchase. It's helpful to know I can trust their in store product counts, specially when i'm in a bind. read more

The employees here are very helpful and knowledgeable about what is in the store and how to satisfy the customer's needs. Parking is free, you sign up with membership there and can get 10% back on ink, toner, paper, and their copy and print services and also you can buy stamps! read more

The printing department here is horrible. Needed 7 hours to print 20 pages. The manager spent more time explaining how they needed the time for other projects than it would've taken to print the pages. Consistently miserable customer service and confusion for even the simplest of projects. read more

So I went here a few weeks ago to return these calligraphy ink pens that were absolute trash. They came in a two pack, that was wrapped and I had to open them to use them before realizing that they were awful. The ink flowed either too heavily or didn't flow at all. Anyways, I always open packaging very carefully in case I need to return the item and this $12 useless pen needed to be returned so I went the next day after packaging it up again. When I approached the cashier, an older woman named Zaineb, and told her that I had a return, she took the pens from my hands, inspected the item as if I had committed some sort of terrible act by returning them and rolled her eyes and shook her head. I was so embarrassed because people were behind me waiting in line. She made me look like a total idiot. I was livid at her rudeness because I had only purchased them the day before. I should have gone to staples. At least they have some sense of customer service. read more

I went here to get some business cards printed and stood there for 15minutes with no one helping. How can their customer service be so horrible? Lack of management or they just don't care! I will nvr go here again. Oh Ya I was able to ask for help and the manager told me to just wait and someone will help me....needless to say I left the store. read more
