Within the first 45 min., 30 people had gone in and 4 people had come out and it felt like a long wait. I think perhaps she may have the estate sale that she went to confused with another company. I had stopped going to estate sales because there always seems to be a system to accessing "the good stuff" and between waiting in line and the frustration of seeing "the fish that got away"- I just didn't want to do it anymore. Well... I started going again because I had really good and satisfying experiences at the estate sales Arroyo puts on. It's well organized with super fair prices. Not sure why I would be encouraging competition with this review except for the fact that I want them to flourish and continue having sales. The few times that I've gone there I have been amazed at the level of professionalism, the organization, and the pleasant energy in meeting from all the workers - even though I can tell they're under a tremendous amount of stress. Their check out was OK except once when there was a lot of people- so that was understandable. My only comment to perhaps suggest improvement would be if they can have a few more people working so that there's no waiting in the checkout. I noticed that they do their research so the pricing is fair to the seller and to the buyer. If I ever decide to scale down and lighten my load- I would use their services to help me achieve that. It was full of gorgeous collections of mercury glass, majolica, fine art work and paintings and other unique and beautiful items collected over a 60 year life span together. We chose Hughes after the painful process of going through the loss of our loved ones, researching different estate sales companies and ways of selling everything. It was a painful process to say the least. And we knew we couldn't handle it ourselves. It was too huge an undertaking, and with so many beautiful things we were very aware of the possible value they could bring. We also had a limited time as the house had already sold. One of our Uncle's prized possessions was a 1964 Morgan in beautiful and original mint condition. Hughes sent us their Vehicle Specialist Sam Alam. Sam was exceptionally helpful, polite, and incredibly knowledgeable about collector cars. He had it carefully towed to his mechanic who knows and works on such cars, to see what it needed and advised us on how to proceed. Fortunately it needed very little but advised us it was worth doing. So we did whatever he suggested. Others showed interest in it, but did not want to pay what it was worth. Dealing with such cars, especially if you know little about them, you can get easily taken advantage of. We did not regret it. It was sold very quickly and at top dollar even with the commission he got. We had researched it ourselves and knew what it might be worth, but didn't know if we could get it, or how to find an appropriate buyer. Sam took care of all of that for us, and working with him was pleasurable, easy and efficient. We had total confidence in him. We highly recommend Hughes Estate Sales for the often painful job of liquidating any home, especially if there are valuable collectibles. They have an amazing research team for pricing valuables. It was a very painful process for us, and we learned that you will not get the full value for everything, because they have to liquidate quickly and whatever doesn't sell the first day, the prices get cut in half. Special items may be sent to auction or put in their showroom and may not be sold as quickly. But we were happy with the results for the most part. It was hard to learn that certain antiques that had great value at one time, had lost much of their value, because things go in and out of fashion. Our other choice would have been to ship everything up to San Francisco, find a large storage unit, and sell on eBay for the rest of our lives. That was not worth it for us. But if you have a special vehicle, Sam Alam is your man.

The packaging was in rough shape and the box had been re-taped, but the women working there seemed sincere so I had the package loaded into my car. About 20 days later it was moving day, so I opened box to build the piece to find that all of the non-wood parts were missing. There were no screws, hinges or any other parts to connect the lightly damaged planks of wood. This seemed like an honest mistake until I reached out to A to Z where I was accused of stealing the parts from myself in order to get my money back? A full or even partial refund was out of consideration. In light of this conversation I perhaps should have looked at the deal with more scrutiny, but that is what I get for trusting A to Z. It was not a tremendous amount of money ($130), but the lack of integrity and honesty is what I found to be most troubling. I would avoid using them, or at the very least do your due diligence on making a purchase there.

They provided details on how I could sell on my own, how to advertise, what websites to post on, how many times I should post etc....basically the tricks of their trade. They are great people who genuinely want to help and understand how to get the most money for you and how to get people in the door.
