The WORST customer service I have EVER experienced. The sales person (Not Paul) had his back to me and the other customers in the store, reading a newspaper. The same salesperson stopped listing the Thigh Measurements on chaps and pants- making it impossible to find things to fit- claiming it took too much time. I ordered a custom harness and it came apart the first time I wore it- when I brought it back I was told that the repair would be impossible because I didn't have all the pieces of metal that fell off. I consigned multiple things that sold right away- when I asked to be paid, I was told "If we paid you right now, it would wipe us out; so you'll need to wait." They have updated their consignment agreement to allow themselves to sit on your money for 90 days before paying you. This is a talented leather shop that is so poorly managed it is doomed to fail, and make a lot of people angry. read more

Off Ramp Leather's special order bar vest is outstanding. It is made from their heavy duty chaps leather which is thick, substantial, buttery, luxurious in feel. It's an amazingly sensuous body feel on the skin that makes you feel the leather is making love to you for all the time that you keep it on. The vest is tailored in such a way that emphasizes the chest & tapers at the waist so it compliments a man's torso. The size runs kind of small. I typically wear a size small (Brooks Brothers, LL Bean), but my Off Ramp size is large. So go figure. There is a limited selection of leather jackets on consignment since they don't make them custom made which is a pity since their vest is such a chef d'oeuvre/Meisterstűck. There are also preused uniform shirts, chaps, etc. for the leatherman. Visit often since their consignment inventory changes. "The more a dog wanders, the more chances it will find a bone." Also leather repair seems to be their forté which I will have to take them up on my next visit to the desert. 4+ Yelp stars. read more

Let me start off by saying how quick and efficient they were with what I needed done. I've been looking for leather workers with great reviews and after much research I found them and decided to stop in to see if they could create me a beautiful piece or pieces from an Authentic Louis Vuitton purse that was so so old and I had no desire to re leather so I had them create me a few dog collars for my Handsome male pug who unfortunately was to thick for the authentic Louis Vuitton Baxter collar which broke my heart. Since that was the biggest collar they made. So being that he has a leash I really wanted him to have a collar to match it and to be as authentic as his leash and mama so they did just that for me and I couldn't be any more happier with the finish product and how quickly they got it done. Something happened to this place- the owner is always MIA and the store staff is bad at covering for him. I went in with a friend who consigned many items with Off Ramp, that had sold several month ago, and my friend had never been paid. The employee justification for holding the money was that he didn't want to drain the bank account. That is Fraud. My friend didn't give them a hard time and simply asked when he would be paid. "we only cut checks once a quarter, and we are doing that next week." was the defensive response from the employe. He got the check 3 weeks later. I went back and bought a couple of consigned items and asked about their custom work for a uniform I want made. The arrogant dismissive attitude of the store staff had me leaving my intended purchases on the counter- and leaving. read more

Disclaimer, I'm a straight guy with no connections to the SF leather community. However, I have a favorite, 100 lb. Muay Thai banana bag that hangs from a tree in my backyard which inadvertantly got the D-ring torn off the bottom due to extensive use. It bummed me out. I spent weeks trying to get it repaired. I contacted all the local boxing gyms, leather and upholstery shops, other SoMa leather shops, etc. No one would touch it. Enter Paul at Off-Ramp. He not only made the bag as good as new, but I later learned that he had contacted the bag manufacturer, traded numerous emails and went to great lengths to fix the bag. Paul is the consummate leather man and tailor. There is nothing bad I can say about him. As the man who custom makes all of my leather clothing and most of the leather clothing for most of the leatherman and a handful of leather women in San Francisco. There is nothing Paul can't make or design within the limits of the leather he works. I like to say if you can dream it, he can make it. Paul and his small cast ol leather elves are always busy, so please remember to plan ahead for major events. Minor repairs can often be done on the spot, and I frequently bring things in for fixing, So far from Paul, I have the absolute coolest vest ever, a black rebel cap, a pair of chaps, and now have a red rebel cap and a black denim and red leather lace back vest on order. There is even a line item in my monthly budget spreadsheet for the money spent at his shop. As far as pricing goes, his prices are more than fair and I've never been charged more than what was quoted to me when I ordered it. We have been using the services at Off Ramp for the last couple of years for various repairs, alterations and customization projects. We have been universally pleased with the work. Today I picked up a pair of jeans that my husband and I had dropped off to have a leather riding seat and side stripes added to. This is the first time we've had customer service issues here but I'd have to say that I have several with this interaction. When we took the jeans in, we also took a pair of leather pants with a tear at the back pocket in to cannibalize for this project. They told us it would be about a week until the pants would be ready. We never received a call to let us know they were ready. No big deal, just a courtesy. I dropped in today to pick up the jeans. They eventually found them and laid them on the counter. I inquired about my leather remnants. The counter guy seemed a little flustered that I would ask. Remember, this is a riding seat and stripes down the side seams. He showed me the cannibalized side seams sewn over the jeans' seams and the beautifully finished crotch area which was the seat from the leather pants laid into the seat of the jeans, lined up on the inside seams. I was told that they normally discard small and odd shaped scraps. I would have expected to get the legs of the leather pants back. I said as much. I don't know how labor is calculated but it felt a little pricey considering we brought in the leather and didn't get any remnants of my lamb skin back. I'm sure we will return but I'm also sure that we will ask more questions and be more specific about our expectations. read more

the owner of this business is one of the rudest people I have ever met! I took an item into the store that I wanted to put on consignment. he didn't even look at it and did nothing but stand at his work station in the back of the store and told me that I would never get what I was asking for the item. he had a scowl on his face the whole time I was there and an extremely bad attitude. I have no intention of ever going back to that place and be insulted. I can't see him in business much longer unless he shows that he has more interest in his prospective customers.
