Easy to get to by train, direct from Glasgow Central or express bus, from Buchanan Bus Station. It's just off the M8. The ticket prices aren't too friendly, especially at the weekend, but it's a decent enough cinema. They do 3d movies and decent food, which is overpriced as usual. Last time I was there some guy came in with a crazy video camera that flashed green to look around in the dark to see if anyone was recording the movie. It looked like a speedcamera and it was so creepy it completely took me out of the experience of watching the film, it was surreal. I was not impressed.

As with most cinemas these days, tickets are pretty expensive (£8.45 on the Saturday night we visited). We'd purchased our tickets beforehand, so didn't need to queue for our tickets on the night, but the ticket queue was pretty long and seemed to move slow due to the folks shelling out for huge buckets of popcorn and snacks. I clocked some of the prices (eh £3.35 for a big bag of Doritos and the same for chocolate!). I really don't know how these places get away with charging what they do. I was mildly tempted to have some Ben & Jerry's icecream but decided to stick with the snacks we'd smuggled in, and save myself a fiver! Whilst waiting outside our screening to enter the cinema, it was slightly off putting to hear the rumbling/ noises from other screens(one of which had the door open and was showing the end of the film we were about to see!) Our official showing time was 6.15 but we didn't get allowed into the screen till twenty past, which was slightly annoying. However, it did mean that they seemed to miss out the adverts at the beginning, which was good given we were in for a three hour movie (don't you wish they would give you a break in the middle :) ) I'm not sure if its the same for every movie but we had preassigned tickets and had opted for quite near the back in the middle. I think these days most cinemas are first come first served with seats, and personally I prefer this. The screen wasn't the biggest I've been in and think some of the Glasgow cinemas are probably better for this. That being said, this cinema is pretty handy for me, and is somewhere I'll visit (or be dragged to) depending on the movie!

I also don't get to Silverburn very often even though I live nearby because of two reasons - 1 the horrendous parking situation; and 2 all the people. So I really wanted to see The Martian as I loved the book so much, and this week is the last week they're showing it. We booked online and collected our tickets when we arrived although note that you can't scan an iPhone 6 Plus screen to collect them as the screen is too big. Ha. The cinema foyer is pretty small, just has a candy bar bit and a Starbucks and toilets but that's fine by me. The actual cinema we were in (6) was a wee one, with only about 10 rows of seats. It was great though as it was only about half full and everyone there was my kind of movie goer - silent and well behaved. There is loads of legroom and it was pretty damn comfy for a 2+ hour movie. It's about £9 each booking online which isn't too bad really. I'll definitely be back!

While we are on the subject of screens these guys have a super screen one of the first in the UK and this thing is massive it does cost a premium but is worth it for the right movie. Other than that they show the usual selection of 2d and 3d movies at the great cineworld unlimited card rates. You really can't complaint. There's a large open space as you enter and it's not immediately clear where to buy tickets from. Weirdly, they don't seem to have a dedicated ticket desk, at least not one that's consistently in operation. Rather, you can buy tickets from the self-service machines, or from any of the concessions stands. Maybe it's just me, but I feel a bit awkward buying tickets at the popcorn stand if I'm not buying popcorn. Maybe that's the point. Who knows? In any case, the staff didn't bat an eyelid and just let us choose a seat and pointed us to the screens. So far I have only visited this cinema once, midweek and for a small-ish movie. I seriously doubt the screen we saw was their main flagship screen, but it was almost funny how small it was. I know people with bigger projector screens in their living rooms. That said, it was fine - the picture was fine, the sound was fine, nothing about the movie-going experience was damaged by the small screen. Even so, I reckon they might be due an upgrade. The cinema is fine, the staff are good, getting tickets is efficient once you figure out where to buy them. Plus, they run the same Cineworld Unlimited discounts that every other branch runs, and you're right by a bunch of places that also offer discounts to cinema-goers. I'm sure we'll be back.

Seats weren't particularly comfortable, I wouldn't choose to sit through 3 back to back lord of the rings movies but you can survive through a single dodgy comedy movie. On the plus side they have a Starbucks concession in the building to add to their normal pick and mix popcorn and hotdogs. I can't say I will be back as the prices are servilely inflated for the services on offer and quality of the cinema itself. Staff seem to have been brought down the suroundings inside the cinema itself with their general mood could be percieved as downtrodden as the quality of the cinema. They really need a re-vamp in here and soon.

It also seats 190 people. The other screen has been designed to be more modern with blue and red strip lights on the walls and turquoise seats. It's much smaller than screen 1 as it only seats 50 people, but makes it much cosier to sit in. It's also open every day of the year (apart from Christmas Day) from about midday until about 9pm, showing films all day long. There's also a cafe now where you can purchase hot drinks such as lattes, cappuccinos, special hot chocolates (Nutella, Jaffa Cake, Oreo, Gingerbread and many more!) cold drinks such as bottles and cans of juice, iced coffees and also alcoholic beverages! There's a wide variety of snacks and baking, and of course, popcorn. There's also bagels to purchase between 12pm and 4pm, many different fillings like smoked salmon and cream cheese, ham and cheese, peanut butter and jelly. A lot of the food and alcoholic beverages are sourced locally, like the Kinryre Gin and Gigha ice cream. All food and drink that's sold in the Picture House can be taken into the auditoriums as well. There's also a nice timeline and heritage exhibition about the history of the building from right when it was built in 1913 to when it reopened in 2017.

Great selection of hot drinks, snacks and everything you would expect from a well stocked cinema. The seats in the screens themselves aren't as plush and comfortable as a more modern cinema, and the screen was a bit smaller that I expected but the viewing quality and sound was excellent. I forgot to mention in my original review that there's a coffee shop on the ground floor and a bar on the second floor, both of which are cosy and lovely and sell all your traditional bar and cafe like goodies! I just love how traditional and original the GFT is; just walking towards if from the outside, it looks like a gorgeous 1930's New York cinema or theatre and that's what I love about it! They also do a loyalty card which I think I'm going to invest in!

The reason we came here is for one of the main reasons why the GFT is so brilliant ~ it offers a variety of films you just couldn't see on the big screen anywhere else in Glasgow. We saw a documentary about a Riot Grrrl singer/band who I loved & adored from the '90's (it's called The Punk Singer & it really is brilliant) - not really mainstream cinema audience stuff! Since we last visited the GFT has had a wee revamp & also now has an addition of a 3rd screen downstairs. It is essentially where the cafe used to be & when we first walked in I was a bit baffled as to where the cafe had moved too. It is now upstairs and downstairs towards the back they now have a wee coffee & snacks kiosk with a couple of tables/seats where you can also sit & wait before your film starts. We ordered some snacks & a coffee and sat for about 10 minutes. In this time I think I managed about 3 sips of my flat white which was hotter than the sun! *ouch* It was, once cooled, a reasonably nice coffee (note: they don't serve any soya/non-diary milk) if a tad pricey. Luckily for us our film was being shown in the new screen (screen 3) and as soon as we entered I was in love! It has been done out beautifully & it has a really cosy almost 'home cinema' feel to it. It is quite a small screen with only 60 seats in total. The seats themselves were lovely, soft leather style seats which were so comfortable AND they had cup-holders! Yay! Something I always felt was lacking in the other screens. As soon as we sat down we were smiling. The temperature of the screen was also pleasant - I usually find Cineworld or other cinemas too chilly at times so to not have to sit huddled underneath my coat during the film was a bonus. I love that the GFT exists in Glasgow because it truly is unique in this great city. The mix of old, new, Arthouse, World & more mainstream films being shown on any one week goes to show the eclecticism of it's audience & how well it caters for the film buffs in & around Glasgow. They occasionally put on theme or more one-off evenings ~ I remember in the early 2000's coming here to see local bands introducing their favourite films, some bands even performing on the night & other events where some bands would play along live to a film as it was being screened. Brilliant. They have a Loyalty Card scheme where by you earn points for each visit & points = money off tickets. They also have a Cinecard which is £32 a year for money off & points. You can also get the Orange Wednesday deal and the Sunday Herald Film Club 2-for-1 offer as well. So a trip here may not work out as pricey as you might originally think. It's a beautiful building and is well worth a visit at least once in your lifetime. I am sad about the demise of the cafe downstairs as I always thought it was really cool but if losing that means gaining a new (lovely) screen then it was worth it.

My dad and I love going to the cinema and my dad asked me to check out what was showing in AD. Ok,…read morebit of background and what is AD I hear you ask? My dad is registered blind but thankfully more and more cinemas are catching up with the technology of AD (Audio Description). This is where a blind or VIP (Visually Impaired Person) can attain a special headset from the front desk, which allows the user to hear a description of what's happening within the film. My dad has always been a cinema goer since he was young and he didn't want to be held back by his impairment so finds the headset excellent and it let's him continue to enjoy the cinema going experience. I would normally head to Renfrew Street but I recently got the Cineworld app and it brings up your nearest cinemas. I had totally forgotten about this one and it's actually a little bit closer to me than the Renfrew Street one. I checked both to see what was in AD but unfortunately most were cartoons but luckily Parkhead had Taken 2 on. More our style! I do like a good action film. It was a Saturday afternoon when we headed in and of course it being years since the both of us have been to The Forge, we found the car park absolutely mobbed. I managed to get a car parking space outside Asda. It was an ok route to cut through and will bring you out at the escalators to head upstairs to the cinema. I can get in for free as a carer with my dad as he has a CEA card (Cinema Exhibitor's Assocation). It really is a lot of acronyms in the land of the visually impaired. Unfortunately for me in a way I have a Unlimited Card so I tend to use that since I'm paying for it every month. Anyway I do use my Unlimited Card when going with my friends and man. The cinema is good as it's not that busy, so not much queuing. They have done away with the external pay desk located outside in the mall. It's just full of film banners and point of sale. You now need to pay where you buy popcorn and drinks from. There's no machine to collect tickets, they probably find there's no need as it tends not to be that busy. First time we went I bought my dad's senior ticket there but when we were deciding to go again to see Skyfall, when looking through the app I realised you can use MyCineworld online and get 10% off the ticket. So this then brought the ticket to under a £5. Cha-Ching! Just book online, get a ref code and tell them at the desk. Done and dusted! I can't wait to go back, it's fantastic for my dad and makes it easier for me, as I used to try and describe to him. I hate people talking too much in the cinema and I was feeling a hypocrite. This helps more than probably most people know. Oh must mention the seats, there is a hugemongous amount of leg room, so an extra added bonus. The food and drinks are gigantic and it is mighty pricey but I did noticed they are offering 10% for Unlimited Card users. I still wouldn't buy much, maybe the odd sweetie but it's a rare occasion. We had a pleasant experience and the staff were really nice to me and my dad. We have already decided what to see next. Yay!
