After some persuasion, I agreed to have a makeover done during one of the 'ladies' nights' that a friend of mine had organized. Rachel Renna was the makeup artist that they had hired for the evening. It didn't take long for me to figure out that Rachel is no ordinary makeup artist. She is the next big thing (mark my words). She is one of the most talented artists I have ever come across, and that's including all the encounters I've had with makeup artists throughout my TV career. The thing about Rachel is that she just 'gets' her clients' style. She had one look at me and knew exactly what I would love and what I would hate. Above and beyond that, she handles a brush like no one I've met before. The way she builds, the way she blends, the way she shapes brows... OH MY! The truth is, my words cannot do Rachel's talent justice. She was basing the look off of a picture but did not modify the look at all even though I had a very different complexion than the girl in the picture. For example i was not asked what colour lipstick or eye shadow i would like, she just applied these products without saying a word.The application was also extremely rushed and made the experience unenjoyable. The entire time she was stressed about finishing my makeup on time even though I was there early. It was evident that my makeup had been rushed due to the messy eyeliner, unblended eyeshadow and uneven eyebrows. At one point I was almost poked in the eye because of how fast she was going. Overall I did not enjoy my experience or like the final product. I ended up removing my makeup and redoing it myself. I was so upset that i payed so much money to have my makeup done only to have to redo it. On top of being upset this caused a great deal of stress on such an already chaotic day. What also makes me upset is that if one of my parents were present I am sure I would have gotten better treatment.

They have extra staff around, so sometimes another person will come and help apply the colour, which really makes everything go a lot faster. I made a mistake and "cheated" on Liz recently by going to a hair salon close to my home, for convenience. Boy.... not a good decision!!! I contacted Medulla to fix the botched job and Liz fixed me up. And didn't judge me at all for straying!!! Will never go to another place for colour. Medulla is just top notch. They are expensive, but completely worth it. Edited to add: the noise volume in the salon is very low; they play music that is not abrasive, and they play it at a low volume. I don't enjoy salons with super loud, abrasive music that you have to shout over (I'm old lol). I'm generally tired, so I really appreciate the chill vibes here as well.

I started going to Holly over a year ago to get my dark hair lightened with some balyage and also…read moreto help disguise some greys. Holly recommended that instead of colouring my roots she would do the balyage in such a way that the greys would be almost camouflaged and I would not need to touch up roots as often. This has totally worked so far. I go back for a gloss (toner) every 6-8 weeks just to refresh the tone of the hair but other than that my greys are there but less visible. The balyage is very natural looking which is what I was going for. And my hair does not feel like it has been over processed afterwards. I highly recommend this place, they definitely know what they are doing when it comes to colouring dark hair. The only complaint I have is that when you have people sitting there for over 3 hours for a balyage, maybe offer them a drink more often than once, or even a small snack. It would help a lot. Also maybe some charging stations for peoples phones. Most people bring their own, but once I forgot it. Just the small things to make the time go by would be a nice touch.
