Dr. Bashir (Ocyon Regenerative - Aventura FL) went through my MRI and found issues that a previous stem cell doctor did not see, nor did the MRI report identify. He adjusted the approach a bit to address the various issues and took his time making sure it was done right. (Note: I had worked with a previous doctor who rushed through the analysis and procedure and missed quite a few things....I will only work with Dr. Bashir from now on, even with having to fly and stay at a hotel - I live in Colorado) During the procedure, there was a constant update of what was going on, ensuring I was comfortable. Dr. Bashir spent extra time on my knee and hamstring. It was a great customer experience. The previous doctor I had (different practice) made me feel like he was doing me a favor and he had to cram the best he could in one hour (felt like a meat market). I'm almost 70. I had stem cell treatment for my arthritic knee - hoping to avoid another full knee replacement. I can't say enough about Dr. Bashir's communication and educational skills about this specialized procedure. Just meet with him and see for yourself. After the treatment, I followed Dr. Bashir's recommendation for PT and wore a brace to keep the knee properly realigned while new cell developed. I am going to write a long post to help anyone considering going to Dr. Bashir, but the short version is that I am a gymnast who tore my ACL after college. Dr. Bashir was able to repair my ACL and I am now back to training at a high level. Long story: I have been a gymnast for all my life. After competing for a level 9/10 club team in college I decided to continue competing after graduation. At the NAIGC national championship at age 30, I partially tore my ACL (there are two fiber bundles, I tore one 90% and the other 50%) and thought my career was over. ACL surgeries are devastating for an athlete. Most never come back to 100% or end up tearing the same or other ACL. The more I researched about future issues from ACL reconstructions the more I didn't want one. I am not the kind of person who saw a physician and then got surgery at the first orthopedic doctor recommend. I got multiple tests and MRIs and I saw every top orthopedic surgeon in my area. Every one said the same thing. Surgery was the only option. I eventually, turned to a friend that is a doctor who mentioned he had read about stem cell therapy for partially torn ACLs. After we researched some different options we contacted Regenexx. I contacted them for a phone consultation and submitted my MRI. This is when I first spoke to Dr. Bashir. He was very personable, intellegent and, perhaps most importantly, honest. He told me that because part of by ACL was still there the procedure was very viable. He said that it was unfortunately pretty badly damaged and only gave me a 60% chance of success for the half torn bundle and a 25% chance for the mostly torn bundle. He said that they would know the chance of success better after the first day of the procedure because he would be imaging my knee in real time. He told me that because my chances were so low, that after the first procedure we could talk about finishing and if I decided not to go on he would not charge me for anything. That convinced me to do it. I liked that he didn't try and convince me to do it blindly. He obviously wanted me to have a successful procedure but didn't want to trick me into paying. A clinic like this becomes successful from testimonials. I knew he would do his best to have me succeed and was prepared to tell me it wasn't hopeful if the first day went poorly. So despite the recommendations of every orthopedic surgeon, I decided to do the procedure. I went to the clinic on three separate days over the course of a week. During it they are able to see exactly where they are injecting in really time using ultrasound and a special x-ray machine (fluoroscopy I think). The first day they did an injection to prepare my ACL for stem cells. Dr. Bashir said that he was able to successfully located both my bundles and said that he thought there was a good chance that the procedure would be successful at this point. The next day they drew bone marrow in the morning and did the stem cell injections in the afternoon. Finally, they did a post stem cell injection two days later. I won't lie, the injections and afterwards were more painful for me than a lot of other Regenexx testimonies have said. Once it was done for the next few days my knee was really sore and I mostly stayed in bed. I was able to fly a few days after however, although I used a wheelchair to navigate the airport. In the following months I did a significant amount of physical therapy and truthfully did not see a lot of improvement. In fact it felt worse for a few weeks. However, after about 8 weeks I started to see major improvements. I ended up getting another MRI after 10 weeks that showed a complete ACL! I continued lots of PT and continued to see more improvements. As Dr. Bashir checked in on me throughout this period, we decided to do a second procedure. I felt like my knee was about 75% better (enough for a normal life but maybe risky for gymnastics. I actually did a multi-day backpacking trip at this point). He said that a second injection may not be necessary but it could potentially help. I ended up getting another injection (by a colleague Dr. Bashir recommended as he had already left for Miami) about six months after the first. At the time of writing this review, I am about a year and a half out of the first procedure and I am about 90% of where I was before the procedure (this might seem bad, but many friends who got ACL reconstructions are much worse than this). I am training gymnastics now and doing strenuous hikes with no issues. I am so thankful that I found Dr. Bashir and was able to heal my ACL using my own stem cells without surgery. I would recommend Dr. Bashir to anyone who is injured or in pain because healing on your own is so much less invasive than alternate procedures. Dr. Bashir is an amazing doctor. I first met Dr. Bashir in Colorado. I had been suffering from shoulder weakness for almost 20 years. Orthopedics said that it was just lack of muscle tone in my shoulder and wanted to give me cortisone shots for the pain. There were days when I could barely lift my arm and felt like a noodle some days. I knew cortisone shots would cause more problems and not fix my shoulder. I basically gave up and continued with rehab exercises and gave up playing Volleyball. After seeing the great results my husbands had with stem cell injections for his knees (2014) with Dr. Bashir, I decided to give Dr. Bashir a try. He discovered several shoulder tears using ultrasound and suggested that I might have some nerve damage in my neck. I had a neck and shoulder MRI which confirmed the tears and identified some nerve damage in my neck but no structural damage to my shoulder. I came to Ocyon Regenerative after a freak skate board accident. I had torn my calf, achilles, and several ligaments in my ankle. The doctors in the ER put stitches and a boot on me and did not really do much else. I was in a lot of pain and afraid of the long term problems associated with surgery.
