I just had a phlebotomy at the One Blood here in Charlotte, N.C. at the Abbey Place location…read more What a wonderful, engaging experience!! when I arrived for my appointment all three staff members including Kim, the supervisor smiled and waved to me as if I were somebody! I filled out the necessary documents and walked out of their location-cookies in hand-twenty minutes later. Very efficient and very engaging. Rated: a very positive experience. I drop the mic!! One Blood has a new location. Located in the same shopping center as Luisa's and Beyond Amazing…read moreDonuts, nice to see a new space that is still convenient to me to donate whole blood or platelets. The plus about this new office is that there are windows to see out (to the parking lot). The previous donor room was an interior room so the only things to really look at were the screens that everyone had to decide to watch the same thing. Looks like each platelet station has their own entertainment. Staffers are still great and friendly, some of them are adjusting to the new office and where all the supplies are kept. The layout of the office is not as spread out, but is a more efficient space- less walking between the history/interview rooms and the donor room. Check in is easy- make an appointment online or on site...further check in questions are done on iPads and you are ready to go. Vitals are taken in the history room and then you go donate. Always nice to know the blood is kept local and you are always thanked for donation. It gets used in the area and helps the community.

Update! The donation center has gotten a face lift, so I…read morefigured it was time to update my review. I have been donating here now for almost 5 years! I love the donation center. Everyone is friendly, calm and informative. They'll take you a step at a time, explain everything, and make sure that you're comfortable throughout. It is a long process, but you're saving up to 3 lives! TOTALLY WORTH IT. They still have a freezer packed full of snacks like ice cream sandwiches, chaco tacos, and strawberry shortcakes. But they've done away with the main tv in the room and replaced it with individual ipods on stands! So whether you're using one arm (like I do) or two arms, you can sit and watch whatever you like. They've upgraded the blankets too. Instead of the thin fleece ones, they now have plush fancy cozy ones. And Lord, do they have promos. I have one more donation until I earn a gift card! I got a tank top last time I was in, and a coffee to go mug! As a strong member of the Yelp family - you know I love my swag. The process here is seamless, goes quickly and is clean and safe. NO better way to save a few lives! And, this local blood center supports our local hospitals. So your blood donation is literally going to your neighbor. Awesome. I can't say enough good things about this place. They also put everyone through training and shadowing and when they have newbies on the floor, there are plenty of seasoned blood center vets to help with questions. Donate here, friends. Save some lives.

Donated platelets here three times and have had enjoyable experiences every time. The whole staff…read moregreets you warmly and is very thankful for donating the time and body for platelet donation. I haven't really had many experiences at other Blood centers, but you are pretty much stuck in one place for about two hours. The first time I donated, I used one arm and it took about 3hrs... now I save an hour by using two arms (one for the intake and the other for the return). It does save an hour, but you are pretty much shot if you want to read a book or do anything else. There is a centralized tv, and the staff is more than happy to change the channels to your liking - just have to agree on one thing to watch. The last couple of times I've been here, I just end up talking to the staff and the other donors. Now I don't recommend donating if you are scared of needles or the sight of blood. The gauge needle they use is MASSIVE, but they are very gentle (I usually don't look-it helps). But the small marks on the crooks on my arm are but a small price to pay for the ability to touch two lives that are in need of platelets. Whether it's for surgery, cancer treatments, or more importantly: children, it's important to keep a steady donation supply going to hospitals and I am more than happy to do what I can. The great thing about platelet donation is that they draw the blood, spin the platelets out of your blood and then put it back in.... so it is not as detrimental as a regular whole blood donation is (which is important for me) so I can stay active [as a wannabe runner].

On another note, this place is terrible, no sense of urgency, when in the chair donating you're intentionally ignored, I sat for 1 hr when scheduling an appointment for 8am, wasn't busy at all I wasn't acknowledged while ppl were talking and having a good time etc. eventually I left before I could even get stuck. Another time a lady was taking other ppl down from machine that finished before me and when she got to me it's like she deliberately ignored me and made it clear with her attitude that she didn't want to take me down. Another staff ended up taking me down then she came back around, after passing me up several times. I didnt let it bother me, but when you have ppl in your organization acting like this, it's bad for business. This specific location lacks structure and leadership, try another location or go to another organization. Bad attitudes as well, whatever is going on outside of work that's bothering you, that should stay at the door or if you're not happy then find another job or something. I may donate here one more week then I'm definitely going to Octapharma. And they play with ppls money!! Hope you all get it together, be blessed
