take forever too do screening standing in line for hours. other than that I would give 5 stars but only get 3

The Norfolk location had been doing a good job until 3x ago my husband had 1 particular young lady really hurt his left arm. It hurt so bad that he wouldn't use that arm to donate anymore. He was using the other arm fine until he got the same young lady again the other day. It hurt bad and the numbers stopped so she called over the Dr and he said to pull it out so.e to get it going again. It did but still hurt bad. By the time he got home his arm was bruised bad and he had a liquid pocket under the skin on his bi ep and one on his forearm. We called and spoke to staff then a nurse and we told them what the nurse was wearing and how she had a clear face cover on so that she wouldn't hurt anyone else. Theu didn't even care, much less have her stop from hurting people. I'm not an attorney but this is the exact definition of "NEGLIGENCE." They have been informed and still not taken action to remedy it nor have her stop from hurting the next people. I guarantee if her records are pulled she has hurt many more. Center undervalues clients patients, time, and desire to donate. You can wait hours just to be screened and hope you can still donate if your iron level isn't low or if your blood pressure is too high. Every employee seem undertrained compared to other octapharma centers. Lastly if you do pass screening get ready to wait for another hour to start donating since management does not know how to use every row of chairs. read more

My husband went inside this donation center and it took almost 4 hrs just to be screened and donate. Majorly understaffed with a total of 6 employees including the security guard. Complete waste of time for the amount that your donating that they pay. read more

Most of not all the staff are very nice. They have constant training and they help each other. I do think there are ways to be more time efficient and less waiting, but maybe my thought process is slightly flawed because I'm on the outside looking in. But overall I like this facility. read more

Being able to donate life saving plasma is great, getting paid for it is even better. The place is clean and professional. My heart goes out to the hard working staff, they seem overwhelmed sometimes because of staffing issues. Very unorganized. No staff. I've been waiting for 50 minutes to get called back. At one point no one was sticking new people. Sometimes the nurses take at least 30 minutes to call you back because they don't come out and check the board so you need to tell the person screening you to actually go knock on the door. I'm here right now, got here at 1620 and have yet to be called back to actually donate (it's currently 1811). read more

This place is "hands down" the worst plasma center in America. They are unskilled, unprofessional and have ABSOLUTELY NO INTEGRITY! I was recently deferred from there for simply pointing out how dissatisfied I was in the service I received. Now I am an intelligent person and I can dialogue with anyone. Little to my knowledge it was documented by a manager; with whom I only expressed my dissatisfaction with service that day; that I was disrespectful to the staff. Now if A professional can't distinguish the difference between a complaint and being disrespectful; then they clearly don't have the skills or intelligence to be a manager. I was essentially banned for calling the manager out on the utter incompetence that I witnessed among the staff on that particular visit. The actions of the manager were totally without bearing and absolutely retalliatory. When I called to get an explanation all I got was a retort of the fabricated incident. The management there act as if they are better than the community that they service and I will never go to any of there centers again. And if they think this is over...just wait until I report them to OSHA and every other regulatory agency regarding plasma collection. read more

They are so slow no matter what time you come in. What's the purpose of having a faster process if the people doing the process are slow. There no way you shouldn't come in at 645 and not make it out by 830. They are short staffed always and never is any managers that are here nor do they make the process any better. I am a regular donor at the Norfolk va location. My experience is somewhat the same in which the wait time to be seated is longer than the actual donation. The staff is nice just seems to always be short staffed. Overall good experience outside the long wait time to be seated. Just a suggestion it is very odd that donors can only use express passes for screening booth not the donation floor. It seems very odd considering points are earned yet can't fully be utilized. read more

I started coming here in 2010 and was coming there until 2017. In the beginning everything went smooth. I had a horrible last 6 months I was there. I got stuck once and was rushed to hospital because the needle went through my vein. I was in the ER for 12 hours. I also had 2 veins collapse while being stuck and when I was on return. At night when I sleep now both arms sometimes go numb if I lay a certain way. I talked to a lawyer but because everyone signs a waiver you can not sue for any damage done to you. Which left me with 3 bills from ER for 1100$ or so a piece and numbing if I sleep certain ways. A few years back this place also had outbreak of HIV positive people and some of the ways the workers handled used needles was unprofessional. I have also seen bedbugs and roaches in this place. Most donors now are desperate for an extra buck for drug habit. read more

Honestly what could be better than sitting down, playing on your phone for 30-45 and get paid to do it? Granted, how much you get paid depends on your weight (sorry all you gorgeous petite girls, hello sexy plus size models) but honestly Its almost too easy. Here's the deal. Donating plasma yes, you get paid. However what's really happening is that you're saving lives and helping make medicine. I have not had a bad experience. If you go in and they say you can't donate today for whatever reason, it's probably a good reason don't argue. The staff is not rude they are all nice people in my opinion. Maybe I'm just to relaxed and don't really care how long it takes (which can be up to 2 hours) to give away some fluid from my body that I had really no part in making or getting rid of but honestly, you're getting free money. read more

Today was my first time here and it will be my last. I am still sitting in this chair after being here for an hour and a half, have not been stuck yet, but have watched staff hold conversations w people here as if they were not on the job. Worst experience ever! The staff is highly rude except the 2 individuals up front. I went at 5pm and was there for 3 hours before seen. When I did get seen one of the techs asked me to leave because he didn't want to stay even later. Everyone there must hate their job bc it was just rudeness and grumbling after that. Hint if you hate your job quit and find a new one! I was nice and respectful the entire time even when they gave me a poor excuse not to let me donate. The employees show no attention to the donors or try to make first time donors comfortable in any type of way. This place is the worst. Today's experience was horrible. I had to wait for them to locate a long cuff during my screening. When they found one it was worn out and had difficulty reading my blood pressure. I was told to wait in the lobby for a nurse to take my blood pressure. I was put in the lobby at 3:50pm and I'm still sitting in the lobby at 4:40pm. At least 20 people have moved on ahead of me while I wait for them to do a manually blood pressure reading (something that takes less than 2 minutes). This place always has something going on with them. Then they have what is called OPI Rewards. When you reach a certain number of visits you get an express pass that is really not an express pass. It allows you to cut the screening line, but there is still a whole line in the lobby waiting on beds. The passes are time sensitive and if it's not busy, then you lose out on using your pass(making it useless). Don't get me wrong they have a few nice people that work here, but majority of them are rude and management doesn't care at all. I wasn't seen until 5pm for my recheck and I had to wait in the lobby with all the new people to wait for a bed. read more

Love what they do here but can't stand the lines and wait. This place isn't clean at all. I've seen cotton balls with dried blood laying on the floor, unauthorized people have wandered behind staff desks and into exam rooms, and the staff is under absolutely no hurry to help. There's a larger gentleman on staff in the evenings with a blond short beard who is very rude to the others on his shift and I try to avoid him at all costs. I have been more than pleased with the explanations given to me when I was new- by jasmine and Sarah- and the time given to patients during consults. I have always felt welcomed by the staff members who I've dealt with 1:1. One of the best plasma centers I've visited in Virginia. Overall, I wish they had a larger staff to help handle the crowds during their busier times and perhaps someone to clean up when customers/donors leave their junk laying around. read more

Upon arriving at the Octapharma Lab here in Norfolk, Virginia I was greeted kindly by the representative at the front desk. We discussed brief evaluations that would be taking place, then proceeded to start the process. I was very open, excited to any questions or concerns by the employees, and passed with flying colors. During the physical examination portion of the test. I was asked to come into a room very unfriendly like, by an employee named "Juan". He had this strange look in his eyes, like he had done something or taken something that he was not suppose to do. When entering the room I was asked a series of questions concerning health and wellness. After about five minutes Juan then looked at me with a vigorous stare and told me I will not be donating today. When I asked why, he said "I Smell Something". Intrigued I asked "What's that Juan?". He said that I smell like alchohol. I told Juan I do not drink. Juan then tells me, "We do not beathalize test here, we go off our own opinions". Then he proceeded to open the door and asked me to leave immediately. Baffled of course by language and treatment by Juan I then left promptly off too the front desk. I asked why this was happening, she then advised me that I can come back on another day without blinking twice. I asked for a feedback form but apparently, there isn't one. So I left kindly, disappointed, and upset on the inside. My only day off and I spent three hours trying to finally donated as eager as I've been waiting to finally do this, it was such an unpleasant and horrifying experience that the employees here at the Norfolk Octapharma center had given to me. I will not be returning to be donated again and I will advice anyone who thinks they should, against going here. read more
