I would give a negative rating if possible. Perhaps one of the most incompetent "professional…read moreservices " companies I've ever dealt with. Arrived at cemetery for a graveside service and grave was full of water from overnight rain and vault sitting along drive. No effort to pump grave out and place vault prior to family arriving. That's just a start. Every aspect of dealing with them was frustrating and fraught with errors. Do yourself and family a favor and use a service that understands professional standards and the emotions a family faces at this time of grief and try's to ease the grief not add to it.

He has always been willing to listen and accommodate any way he could to help our family in planning the funerals for our loved ones. From my grandmother and several uncles to my dad, who incidentally he shut down his chapel for a week to use that room as my dad's viewing room because of the overwhelming number of people that would be coming to pay their respects, and most recently to my wife's funeral where we had picked out the casket we wanted but they did not have it in the colors we wanted that would represent our children's School colors. We did not ask but Joel called the casket company and had one rushed over in those exact colors and it was actually an upgraded casket and did not charge us extra and surprised us with it upon our first viewing. He is always been willing to go over and above and beyond in our time of need and pain. I honestly cannot say enough nice things about how I admire and respect Lewis funeral home. My family has used Lewis funeral home over the past 30 years with several family members and I, nor any of my family members, have ever had anything negative to say about Joel Lewis and his funeral home.

I have performed as a musician here for several memorial day ceremonies and also Veterans Day ceremonies, etc. The cemetery does a wonderful job and Christmas decorating the stones, and it is well kept and manicured all the time. We are grateful to have a local cemetery of this type for those who have served our nation and each time I come here I am in reverence and awe.

It was reconstructed in 1838 and the original cemetery expanded and repaired. And then in 1861 as the Civil War started, the post changed hands and became a Confederate garrison. During the war, some 400 Confederate soldiers died and were buried here. The cemetery was officially labeled a National Cemetery in 1867 when soldiers who had been buried at nearby battlefields were exhumed and moved here. Today, the cemetery includes more than 1400 unmarked graves belonging to both Union and Confederate soldiers. There are other memorials for more recent engagements including a Vietnam Veterans memorial The cemetery is in excellent condition. Note that the hours of the cemetery are pretty much dawn to dusk, while the office has more traditional hours. Please be respectful when you visit.
