We chose to stay at the same resort when traveling with two other couples. We all had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed our trip. I think the food had gotten better and the drinks are stronger. Review of Ocean Maya Royale Ocean Maya Royale offers solid value for the price, especially for travelers looking for a smaller, quieter all-inclusive resort with friendly service. The Good: The rooms were clean, comfortable, and more than adequate for a relaxing stay. Hot water and water pressure were consistently excellent, which is always a plus. The mini bar was well stocked, and housekeeping did a great job throughout our stay. The pool area is spacious with plenty of seating, so finding a chair was never an issue. Pool activities were fun and plentiful without being overwhelming. The beach area is quiet and relaxing, and unlike some other resort areas in Mexico, you're not constantly hassled by vendors trying to sell things. All of the staff were genuinely pleasant and accommodating. The concierge, in particular, stood out for being friendly and helpful, and there were plenty of tour options available. The resort itself is easy to navigate and not overly large, which makes getting around simple. For the price point, this resort delivers good overall value for an all-inclusive experience. Areas for Improvement: The biggest issue is staffing in the restaurants, especially the buffet. Additional staff would make a noticeable difference in service and efficiency. Dining access is also frustrating for non-privileged guests. Room service and the ability to make restaurant reservations at all hours are limited to "privileged" or "premium" guests. This creates a real problem for those with early flights or morning excursions. The buffet doesn't open until 7:00 a.m., and room service isn't available for most guests at that time, leaving very limited food options beyond a quick grab-and-go item at the coffee shop. Getting into any restaurant other than the buffet can feel like a chore, as you must line up early before doors open. Again, privileged guests can reserve ahead, which puts other guests at a disadvantage. The exterior areas of the resort could use some attention. The courtyard, in particular, is in dire need of a facelift. Hygiene at the buffet could also be improved--there was only one hand-sanitizer station at check-in, which is concerning when guests are serving themselves, especially during peak flu season. Finally, small details matter: salt and pepper weren't consistently stocked on tables, and you often had to track down a waiter to get them. Overall: I can't say enough good things about the staff--they truly make this resort shine with their friendliness and willingness to help. If you tend to be a little bougie or expect luxury-level perks across the board, this may not be the place for you. I had a terrible experience at this resort. They charged me for two rooms when I only booked one. They said it was my fault and have refused to refund my money. They couldn't have cared less that a mistake was made and that I was entitled to a large refund. On top of that, if you don't pay extra for the "privilege" plan you have to eat in their worst restaurants and are allowed only to drink the cheapest, worst booze available. There are plenty of great places to stay in the Cancun area. Avoid this one at all costs. read more

Pretty good resort! For the money, it is kind of tough to beat. Two really nice pools (one is the "party" pool, one is the "calm" pool). I actually prefer the party pool because it is the one with the pool bar. The resort boasts 4 restaurants + 1 buffet + 1 exclusive restaurant that you have to pay extra for. I'm not sure the exclusive restaurant is worth the extra money - the food isn't THAT good, and it is stuffy in there (read: literally warm and somewhat uncomfortable). We never tried the Japanese restaurant - the menu wasn't very exciting. We did really like the Mexican restaurant and the buffet. These were without question our two favorites. Note - the Mexican restaurant is open to everyone for lunch, but it is only for the "exclusive members" for dinner. The resort was clean and the service was good. I have no real complaints. The only real knock I have - I got sick the last day. I don't know how or why, but I believe it came from the fish at the Italian restaurant. I can't be 100% certain of this, but I don't know what else it could have been. I had a pretty bad stomach illness the next morning and throughout the next day, and the last thing I had was the mahi mahi from the Italian restaurant. So the logical conclusion is that the fish is what did me in. If you're nervous about any of that stuff, then just stick with the buffet and Mexican restaurant. You'll do fine. read more

Beautiful resort. Rooms are spacious and clean. Room service is prompt and all the personnel's are very polite and friendly. The Beach is not your typical beach as you would expect, it's a bit rough, and smelly due to seasonal seaweed. The walk over to the Lagoon has an unfriendly passage. The resort offers many different restaurants: Japanese, Italian, French and Mexican cuisine. Depending on your experience and expectations to rate the restaurant service and food, we gave it 2/5. The only restaurant we liked that was semi better than the rest, was the privilege! We had paid extra for that. We got sick over the Japanese food. Overall, everything was fine except the food. It was overrated commercial low quality food. I would not go back. Service was great in other areas and drinks were made from scratch with your request. read more

Is this a classic 5 star resort with all the fanciest bells and whistles and luxury, no. But the value for what we paid as part of the Privilege package was absolutely 5 star worthy. My first time in Mexico was spent at the Ocean Maya Royale. Our accommodations were lovely - as part of the Privilege package we even had a hot tub on our patio. My only, admittedly minor, complaint about the room was that there was very little dresser space, preventing 2 of us from being able to both unpack. But they provided a steamer so BF was able to dress for dinner being wrinkly. The food was delicious, even the buffet. My favorite was El Charro. The churros were fantastic! I did not try the Asian restaurant, but I would eat at any of the others any time. By being a smaller resort, there was never a long wait at any of the bars, even the pool bar at the height of afternoon crowds. I thought the cocktail menu was creative even if the specialty drinks were all very sweet. The bartenders are pros at accommodating special requests. By far the best part was the entertainment staff. What could have been stupid cheesy public games were amazing fun that I was really looking forward to by the last few days. We would absolutely return if the opportunity arises. read more

We spent a week at Ocean Maya Royale in Playa Del Carmen and we were blown away! We are both vegan which makes traveling internationally a bit more difficult for us, but the staff here were extremely accommodating! When you enter the resort to check in, they ask if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions. If so, you are given a card that has the restrictions listen on it. For example, our card read "veganos." When you enter a restaurant you hand the host the card and the chef will walk you through the menu to show you what is vegan and what isn't. If you aren't satisfied with the options they always offered to make something special for us! I will say that the staff is not always educated on the difference between vegetarian and vegan, so make sure to say no eggs, dairy, butter, cheese, etc. There are also at times items on the menus that are listed as vegan but are only vegetarian. If you're vegan, your best bet is to have breakfast and dinner at the buffet and lunch at the restaurant next to the pool. The restaurant next to the pool has a great veggie burger with fries that is vegan! There were always options for vegan food at the buffet, but sometimes you need to get a little creative with putting everything together into a meal. We have both been vegan for over 10 years so this is very normal for us! We never went hungry and all the food was good! We would say to not have the "vegano roll" at the Japanese restaurant. It was basically 80% rice and not very good. At the buffet there is an extremely kind gentleman named Octavio who is a waiter. Octavio took special care of us and made us feel like family, we would always request to sit in his section. Octavio understood veganism and always went out of his way to make sure that we had options to eat and would ask the staff to make special dishes for us to surprise us whenever we visited! Another great associate was a man named Carlos who seemed to work at the buffet and at the restaurant next to the pool. He would also make sure that we were satisfied whenever we were eating. All the staff were extremely kind to us and made us feel welcome. By the end of the 5 days we spent there, a lot of the staff had our dietary restrictions, room number, and names memorized. We are so impressed! Our room was extremely clean and we loved finding the towel animal on our bed the fist day we arrived. I believe it is the cleanest hotel room I have ever been in anywhere in the world! The pool was beautiful and clean. There was an excess of seaweed on the beach when we were there, so we couldn't swim in the ocean, but there is no way for the hotel to control that. Everyday they were working hard with large dum trucks and tractors to remove the seaweed as best as they could. The beautiful pool made up for it! The transportation to and from the hotel to the airport was easy, punctual, and overall very nice. Lastly, we loved the great access to cool, clean drinking water nearly everywhere. It was great to be able to fill up our water bottles wherever we went as it was very hot while we were visiting! The air conditioning in our room and in the restaurants was always nice and cold. Also the whole resort has strong wifi! The whole resort was also extremely clean. All in all, we would recommend this resort to anyone. Especially if you are vegan! Upon arrival we entered a beautiful resort. There were 14 of us, all ages from 26 to 80. They treated us amazingly. Gabriella was a wonderful host and I'm not sure how she holds her composure after so many guest requestts' and questions. From the Buffett, to the restaurants (my favorite was the Italian restaurant) to the pool area and the entertainment, Kendall and his crew were amazing. It was 7 days of heaven!! My sister and I just returned from a 4 day/3 night trip and it was a wonderful vacation as long as you know what to expect. We did have an issue trying to book the free transportation and couldn't get through to anyone at the hotel until of course it was too late. If you book 3 or more nights there should be a link at the bottom of the email. Rather than a html link it just looks like a picture from the hotel under all the confirmation info. We ended up paying over $100 for transportation and that was a star off for me. I really think this is a 3.5 star resort. The rooms are dated, have a musty smell, and the shower design is not good with water spilling onto the floor. This would have been a bigger issue, but honestly we came for the beach and that was great. There were plenty of covered sunbeds so we could lay out and read everyday all day. There were vendors that came on occasion, and we did take advantage of the massages from the ladies in blue once as the rates were much cheaper than the resort's spa. Rosario was fantastic. There were 2 pools, which we didn't really use. One was a more relaxing vibe, and the other was top optional apparently and the activities pool. Food: When it was fresh it was good, but the stuff just sitting in the "warmers" didn't really stay warm. They only offer room service for guests staying in privilege rooms, so if you do any late night activities just know food options will be very limited. Drinks: Piña coladas, gin and tonics, and mojitos were pretty safe choices. Again if you weren't Privilege your alcohol options were limited and the juice in general wasn't good, so I wasn't a fan of most other drinks. Only their house wines were included in the price, and the glass of red I had one night was pretty awful. Activities: Like I said we just wanted to chill and read, so we didn't do any daytime activities. We did see a singer with dancers one night, a fire show, and a white party. Those were good. I felt bad for the singer and dancers because the crowd was pretty lame and gave very minimal feedback. They did a great job cleaning up the seaweed and the ocean was warm and wonderful while we were there. Overall we'd consider returning, but maybe see if Privilege is a better experience. read more

Awful experience. I bought a vacation for my brother as a gift a month in advance directly from the hotel's own website. A day before he was flying out there, he got an email saying they need a a signed waiver and copy of my ID saying he was ok to stay instead of me or they would be canceling the reservation. This was already ridiculous but I did it anyways since it was late to find an alternative. It was sent and they never replied, but I thought all was good, I even sent them a screenshot of the credit card transaction with the transaction ID proving it was my account and not possible fraud or whatever they thought. Then when he gets to the hotel they said my signature from the waived didn't look exactly like the one on my driver's license. They waited until he got into the lobby to say this. They then said send it again with my signature looking more like my signature? I resent it with my passport copy this time and my signature again. Again they said it looks slightly different and to try again. What kind of stupid system is this and what does it prove, if it actually was fraud they would be helping them forge my signature. My brother was fed up and decided to leave and just find another hotel that was also in a better location, while waiting for a taxi they said they would just accept him. He likely would have been better off leaving because the hotel itself and the beach in front of it were quite bad and much worse than other hotels he's stayed at previously in the area. read more

My second time to check in to this place. And it's a 5 star rating, both first and second! Food they serve at BlueMoon, Dolce Vita and Privilege are spectacular, others... so, so. People are all respectful and what's amazing is they're honest! I left my sunglasses in one of their sun beds. Amazingly, I got it back! I'm in a customer service industry, all these combined will surely get customers to come back again and again! Thank you thank you! I really appreciate honesty which is now rare. Just went recently for my mother's 70th and my sister's 56th birthday.. They truly enjoyed their stay. We came on the 22nd and left on the 27th. Ambiance: 5/5 room are spacious. Nice view from the balcony. They did not clean the room twice a day like it mentioned on their website. But when it's cleaned. It's good. Restaurants: 4/5 there were 5 restaurants to rotate from. Japanese (Hibachi style), French, Italian and two buffets. However, you have to know when to attend which restaurants based on which day.. Due to Covid, not all restaurants are open everyday. And you have to stop to the Japanese restaurant to make a reservation in person. Can't call. And you have to get there at 5:30pm. And later than that, you're out of luck. Cleanliness: 5/5 they kept their resort very nice and clean. You clean your shoes before you step into a restaurant. They check your temp. And for the buffet, you will need to wear disposable gloves to go thru it. The concierge were helpful when they are not busy.. But don't even think about making a phone call to request towels or anything else because the phone doesn't work. Entertainment: 5/5 I'm truly happy with the on-site entertainment. Everyday I made my mom do aqua workouts in the pool. The staffs were all there to help with that, provide lazy games for the tipsy. And water volleyball for those who are more ambitious. This is a smaller resort compared to a few close by. But with my mom being soo scared of the Delta variant. I do appreciate it being on the smaller side. And most important of all is that they provided on site Covid tests. Which cost $35 and you normally get the results back within 4 hrs on the same day. I couldn't have asked for a better set up.. Overall I had a very conflicting experience: Food The buffets were pretty good. I liked the burgers and sausages grilled by the pool. The buffets had fresh fish and ceviche, all of the restaurants are easy ti get into. The only one that requires reservation is the hibachi steakhouse. Unfortunately the food in buffets is better than most restaurants, Sushi is the only the exception. Drinks Drinks and bartenders were great. Pretty good mixes and variety, just wish they served more on the beach. Entertainment Great evening entertainment and activity throughout the day. A good balance of cheesy and fun. Service We had a clogged sink and a broken commode that we reported and asked for repair 4 times. Each time we asked, they said how they will fix immediately and a maintenance guy is in the way, no one ever came, that's not e usable at all. Environment Loved the beach! The weeds were cleaned up daily and it was very nice and calm. There was lot of space and privacy on the beach. There is tons of wild life, I love the little raccoons and lizards around the place. But they do run around the buffet areas and the staff are equipped with water guns to chase them away which is extreme,y amusing to watch. Please note that there is a decent walk between buffet and the beach. It's a large territory. Also loved tons of photo opportunities with a swing, love signs, Mexico signs, and beautiful objects everywhere. read more

Worst hotel resort I have ever stayed at. Food poisoning the 1st day, but dont worry they will sell you 10 advil for $18 US. The room had a musty mold smell with a hint of backed up sewer masked by a powerful pinesol cleaning smell and purfumed toilet paper that burns your backside. The mold spores helped keep us sick all week. Most of the food is horrible and the food handling in the buffet is questionable. A lot of room temperature seafood and poultry. My wife and had low grade fevers and stomach aches all week. The overwhelming cleaning solution smell in the lobby actually burns the lungs and sinuses and gives immediate headaches. Our air conditioner broke the 2nd day and the plumbing in the shower backed up and overflowed. We asked for a different room buy the front desk said they could fix. The air was fixed but not the plumbing. We dealt with it by only turning on faucet one quarter of the way. The entire resort had an outhouse smell to it, most likely the reason for the excess purfumed cleaning supplies applied everywhere. Needless to say will never stay here again. read more

Made reservations for dinner with the front office but it was never made by staff . Ok, this was an experience! I will try to cover as much as I can. Let me just start with the bad, and the biggest complaint I see in reviews. SEAWEED, there is NOTHING anyone anywhere can do about this. They have staff shoveling it off the beach before the sun rises. Mother nature brings it back faster than they can load it. The smell is a bit annoying but the bartenders seem like they are on a mission to keep you drunk so just drink and you wont smell a thing. If you can do without the ocean water you will be fine, if the beach is a must you can enjoy the sand or fight thru the seaweed OR walk a little under a mile and you'll be able to enter the water freely. Food: I am a vegan so I am always bothered by the lack of options, however this was NOT the case, I particularly enjoyed the buffet. We also dines at the Blue Moon which was super "fancy" but not quite my cup of tea. If you like to dress up and fine dine then this would be great. Room service is timely and tasty! They have the best ceviche I have eaten in YEARS. Activities/Entertainment ... I give them a 9/10 ... maybe because I wanted them to KEEP GOING lol ... I was booked into villa #12 which gave m e pool/beach access - perfect room, anything along 12 (10, 11 etc) are perfect but a walk back to the reception area, buffet and nightly entertainment. Great room, large enough bathroom and all the amenities with daily turn down service. The grounds are well manicured and every fifteen feet there's something to take a picture in front of Two pools, a calm one and of course the one with the swim up bar is party central. Did I mention the drinks will get you drunk? Not watered down AT ALL. The staff are all great. Now they will tell you when you check in, do not feed the animals - they are annoying but hey ... its the tropics .. .and I stomped my foot twice and they went about their business. I will DEFINITELY stay here again ... had a great time, HIGHLY recommend Oh, and they do the on-site COVID test to return home with results by 7 pm!! $35 read more

The food was good, the staff was great, and the rooms were nice, but there were some unexpected things: Our ocean view room was over the DJ at the pool. It rocked until 2am our first night, and all day after that. We were able to move. Don't fall for the "breakfast at a sister resort," as that was a terrible, 4 hour timeshare presentation. The other thing they need to eliminate is the "free" tour of Playa Del Carmen. That is a 40-minute drive out of the way to an expensive jewelry shop and tourist trap. On the way back, they drop you in town for 2 hours. Take a taxi instead. The resort beach is smaller than I expected, and you can not walk far, as it has eroded in areas. I have been to this resort over 12 times in the past 8 years and if you haven't figured it out yet, I love it here! My buddy and I were looking for a "Adults Only" resort to come and relax at. This looked like it was the right size so we could just sit and relax and enjoy the pool, sun and sand. To our surprise it turned out to be much more. It started out with the way we were greeted when we arrived and continued thru out the vacation. Everyone was so polite and friendly, it made you feel that even after one stay, you knew everyone. That friendliness continues down the line to the maids and lawn care employees. There are plenty of food options and 24 hour bars. The pool staff is eager to get you motivated in games or willing to let you relax and enjoy the sun. This is a 5 star resort at 3 star prices. I would recommend this resort for any one who is looking for a nice Home away from Home type resort. Please do not read all the fake reviews about the blue entertainment team and listing all the people there (who ever remembers and lists all the DJ names in a review ), it's literally the same review edited with a new fake account... Anyway, the beach was nice and the weather beautiful, so was the rest of Mexico... The resort's food is 3/10 and you can live with it I guess if it didn't get you violently sick!! MANY people got food poisoned there during our stay, the hotel took zero responsibly and provided zero help! Wish I could have stayed longer. Honestly you can't go wrong at any resort in Mexico. That's my experience. This was my first adult only resort. What took me so long? Sorry kids mommy is going alone, yes again. I need to go back and see that Mexican boyfriend. The water aerobics are so much fun. Don't miss out and you won't be tired. It's just tons of laughs. Definitely participate in the Foam parties. Splash water so you can breath. Near death experience forme. Say yes to the Jetski rides. I have no regrets. My husband and I stayed at the hotel with two other couples, all in our 70's. The resort is beautiful and very well maintained. The rooms are very clean and well-appointed, the staff is well-trained and cordial. We thought the food in all of the restaurants was very good. (We didn't go to the Japanese restaurant because we would all have had to stand in line for half an hour just to get a reservation). The beach was lovely with comfortable chairs and palapas, and the water was a little rough but pleasant. You can walk a long distance on the beach, past other resorts. We went on some excursions to snorkel and my husband enjoyed scuba diving in two cenotes. Our only problem was that the area around one end of the pool had rock music blaring much of the day. We requested a room change after one night because of the noise in our "ocean view room". Our new room was close to the adjacent resort, which had a dance party with a DJ until almost midnight one night. Clearly a lot of the guests enjoyed the party atmosphere and the free drinks. We will look for a quieter place next time, but for people who enjoy a lively atmosphere and want to party, this is a great place. read more

Its not that we mind the test itself, its just that scheduling and hoping to get results back in time is a logistical nightmare. So, here we are in Playa del Carmen at Ocean Maya Royale, an all inclusive resort for adults only. The bell boys and front desk folks are wonderful. We had a beautiful view from our balcony of the ocean and the pool. The housekeeping staff kept our room tidy. So all good there. The food...im going to chalk up the sub-par dining choices to Covid. I know many workers are furloughed or laid off, so dining was not as good as other resorts we've experienced. Service is a little slow and I'll give it 2.5 stars on food. Not horrible, but just ok, except for one night in the Italian restaurant. A group of friends told us to skip past the italian dishes and go straight for the filet mignon and mashed potatoes. We did, and it was the best meal we had there. The resort did a great job keeping the seaweed away from shore. Several travelers had said it was a major issue in Playa del Carmen. Bravo on that front! Not much in the way of entertainment, again, Covid. The resort is quite a hike from town and a taxi (no uber in this part of MX) cost about 500 pesos ($25 approximately, each way). Lots to see down town! So, yea....Ocean Maya Royale was a nice little break from the cold, back in VA! All in all, we had a wonderful, relaxing vacation. The entire staff was very accommodating and friendly. I'd definitely go back again. Almost forgot to mention the critters! Cute little things, i guess they are like Mexican raccoons. If I could give this resort a 0, I would. While visiting this resort with 9 other family members, 3 of us were on the beach when it started to downpour. We decided to leave the beach and go into the restaurant next to the pool to have lunch since it was approximately 1:15 when the rain started. As we entered the restaurant, myself and one other family member both fell on the tile floor, as there were no mats at the entrance. The other person hit her head and wound up with a concussion. I fell and broke my back, which required surgery. Not only did they not check on us for the remainder of our ruined vacation, the Guest Services manager went so far as to say "the restaurant was closed, which is why there were no mats." How do you explain the couple who was eating lunch, whose table I fell in front of? Or the host at the entrance who was seating people? Or the other patrons in the restaurant who came to our aid? Myself and my lawyer have reached out to hotel management, as well as the H10 Hotel Group multiple times, and have YET to receive any sort of response. There are plenty of other resorts in the area. Do yourself a favor and choose one who cares more about their guests than trying to cover their own as&ses, ignores any sort of communication requests, and has rubber mats at the entrances to all their buildings.... The staff is beyond amazing! Made us forget about the pandemic for a few days. This was one of the best vacations we have ever taken. We took a day trip to Cozumel by ferry, hung out in downtown Play a and snorkeled in the nearby lagoon! The food and variety was nothing to complain about. The Ocean Maya Royale is an adult only, all inclusive H10 property in Playa del Carmen. It is not in central Playa (5th Ave, La mamita beach...)but a $40 cab ride away. The property has lots to offer: a free shopping tour, 5 restaurants, a sports bar, coffee shop, two pools, jet ski rentals, several open bars, lovely rooms, nightly activities, a tourism desk, a timeshare desk, the Prestige Club, a couple of stores with a fair exchange rate, Despacio Spa and a photoshoot place. This is a natural place so there are also lots of animals who mind their business but for a city girl like me, it took some patience and courage. Lots to love abt this place: the waitstaff, housekeepers, front desk spa manager, bartenders, DJ and tourism folks are super kind and efficient. The grounds are lovely with floral trees and waterfalls. As a Prestige clubber my fly white on white room with living room had an outdoor jacuzzi. The reason it's 4 and not 5 stars: I had two spa services--1 was excellent, one done by a newbie and not so smooth plus ten minutes short. Spa prices are on sale but not a bargain. There is a slight smell on this side of the property. Idk if it's the sea or the sewers. Some of the gents in the transportation departments (in the lobby and at the front door) are very apathetic. My cancelled tour (weather) has yet to refund me--two days after although the charge went through just fine while I sat at the TraficTours desk. No one has answered my email yet. Also, I guess there are cards for beach towels? I never received one and used my limited Spanish to get a towel anyway. Never used my hot tub, just too much nature--I get it, I was the intruder. La Hacienda is the only restaurant with three meals a day. The others rotate because one restaurant is closed each day. And although there is great diversity and food for all types of eaters at La Hacienda, I'd give the food 6. 5 or 7 out of 10 and all the other restaurant are far better. You can meet cool people here. The liquor is a little watered down, but the mini bar and wine are complimentary. You can tip big, the USD is $18-20 per pesos. I'd probably opt to be closer into the city or travel with friends to split the bills or rent a car if I come back to this area, but it's my second time here so I probably won't. Not the whitest sandy beach I've been to either. Other than that, it was a really nice place, with good people and a relaxing time. read more

I just returned from a 7-Day vacation with my husband and friends at the Ocean Maya. This was by far our best trip ever! The grounds on the resort are very beautiful with many little hidden areas for photo opportunities. Lots of wildlife, watch out for the iguanas. We stayed in a privilege junior suite. The room was not representative of the hotel photos with no separate sitting area, but it was still comfortable and appointed. The multiple bars at the resort tended to get overwhelmed at peak times. The bartenders had a hard time to keep up and drinks quality suffered . The clear liquors definitely tasted watered down. I ordered a pink lady cocktail at the lobby bar that was made so quickly that it barely had any alcohol in it at all as the bartender was rushing and splashing rather than measuring. There are two pool areas, a quiet pool and a party pool. The pool water needs better treatment as I saw floating scum in both pools. There was actually a sticky green scum line on the tile in the party pool. I did see chemical testers once while I was there. With the large amount of people in the pool daily combined with all the sunscreen, a more frequent care schedule is necessary. The deck area around the pool was also never washed down. I saw the same spot where a guest dropped ice cream left to dry for the entire week rather than being cleaned away . Also multiple cigarette butts and balloons left over from the foam party. Food here was really hit-or-miss. We ate at the blue Moon restaurant twice. The filet was so good the first time that we came back. The second meal was very slow and the steaks over cooked. All of the restaurants in general seem to be understaffed. The servers were actually running to try to keep up with the tables. The buffet restaurant, la Hacienda, had a great variety for all of the meals. This was the first Mexican restaurant that had good baked goods. My one criticism is that this space is very loud . Octavio was fantastic and attentive serving our lunch on our last day. El Charro Mexican restaurant was delicious! Manolo worked very hard for us to get the perfect spicy margarita. The Privilege restaurant breakfast was extremely slow. Once again I felt that they were understaffed and the servers were literally running from table to table. I ordered the eggs benedict cooked medium and received two hard boiled eggs on an English muffin. It took me 1 hour to receive my breakfast and so I did not return for breakfast again. I did order the steak and lobster dinner at the same restaurant and the pace was much better and my food was extraordinary. Entertainment at the Ocean Maya was the best of any Mexican resort that I have ever stayed at. Merana, Arturo and Rodrigo provide constant games, fun lessons and smiles. During the week stay I made paella, guacamole, cocktails, painted t-shirts, and beaded bracelets. The foam party two times a week is a great idea for someone coming in late on a weekend and missing the Sunday party. So much fun and great music but don't get the soap in your eyes! Warning, do not leave food unattended outside by the pool as animals will swarm the area and make a mess. The night time entertainment, shows and live bands were all top notch. The same daytime crew of Merana,Arturo and Rodrigo, work until 11pm! I will end by saying that the Ocean Maya is not perfect in all aspects but still a stellar resort that I will definitely be returning to again and again. read more

For an adults only, all inclusive resort, this place had pretty high reviews online. We also found a very good deal online and ended up paying about $225 a night for 2 people. If you break it down, its pretty affordable. You're basically paying about $112 a person per night and the cost includes everything: your room, all you can eat and drink, and amenities like the pool. The night life was pretty non-existent here, but I didn't mind. You will find a good mix of older adults here too. Staff and service gets a 10/10. Everyone was so friendly and great. They have a variety of fancier restaurants (personal favorite was blue moon for their food, and dolce vita for the atmosphere). They have several events throughout the week. When we went their was a foam party at the pool one afternoon. There is wifi available at the hotel. We had no trouble getting into the internet even as normal wristband holders. This isn't a glamorous, high end resort but it really was a nice modest one. This place is clean and has everything you need to relax. For the price, I really can't complain. It was definitely worth it for us. read more

It's a beautiful huge territory; nicely spread-out villas, and the main three story building called the "Privilege One" (located a bit far from the ocean and close to the main restaurant buffet). I disagree with other reviewers - the position of the rooms is super nice because you can walk off all your food and drinks while coming from the beach and back, and experience the wildlife! Food - the main buffet restaurant has good selection, nice varieties, attentive staff, they change the menu every day, they don't have coffee machine for cappuccino inside but the staff is so nice that they would go to the next bar and grab it for you! Drinks - this is the only one that makes it a half star down to 4+ instead of a full 5. We felt that drinks are (maybe, can't be sure 100%) a bit diluted. We felt it either in wines or hard liquors. Also, I didn't like too much that the standard liquors are basically substitutes, while the high level drinks, "privileged", are the real ones - not included for standard guests. Activities - very nice crew with a lot of activities during the day and night. Nice foam pool party on Wednesday and a very professional music band by the pool on Friday. Also liked that Aztec show with beautiful costumes one night. Now, the most important and the most beautiful experience for us this trip (we had been a few times in Mexico but have never ever experienced this) was the many wild animals on the property. There were iguanas (which probably is not the most exotic), families of coatis, and deer that would be eating leaves just 20 yards away from you. Very very nice ! Happy 2019 Everyone ! read more

I booked a privilege package with a jacuzzi room, so that made the stay so much better. All-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink, including top shelf for privilege. The buffet food wasn't the greatest, but is buffet food ever that great? I tried all the restaurants there (and you get to make reservations with privilege), and I liked Blue Moon the best. Yookoso wasn't too bad, and was a fun tepanyaki experience. The resort was beautiful and very peaceful and relaxing. And it stayed pretty relaxing; it's not much of a place for a younger crowd looking for more nightlife. We felt like the youngest ones and the only younger ones there. It was more of a relaxing getaway for older people. But I enjoyed that the resort wasn't overly-crowded. And the staff were super friendly, which made me up my ratings a little bit. We went to Puerto Vallarta last year, and the staff at the resort there were not friendly at all, and some were rude. Since there wasn't much to do late night besides hanging out in the 24-hour lobby bar drinking, we would hang out in the room in the jacuzzi and order room service. You get 23 hours of free room service with the privilege package, and that was such a wonderful thing in the middle of the night. read more

Worst experience I've ever had. Service was absolutely horrible. We paid for the " privilege room" only to find that the room offered NOTHING more than a standard room. Also, when you vacation and pay for a privilege one would assume you have a beautiful view, excellent concierge service which we paid for but NEVER RECEIVED!! And as a minimum room service that actually worked. 1. We never had concierge service 2. Our adult kids standard rooms were much nicer than ours and we paid $1100 more 3. Privilege rooms are located in the very back of the property far away from the beaches, pools and everything else 4. Privilege rooms are right next to service Department and maid service cleaning area 5. When speaking to the manager she simply said "well, that's what you paid for" 6. Was not offered a refund or new room 7 Upon check out the charged us $120 for a massage we NEVER GOT and blamed it on us knowing we were told we would be contacted by the non existent concierge to take us to the massage location 8. Treatment was poor at best. 9. I asked if maybe we could go to a sister property instead even though my kids were all in nicer rooms here only to be told they didn't have any sister properties. GUESS WHAT? The very next day they offered us a tour for our next stay in their sister property which was located down the road. This resort is really nice. Our room was beautiful and extremely clean. The staff here is very nice - they all speak English which is a huge plus for me. The pools are nice, with plenty of chairs. The bars are stocked well, although the pool swim up bar would be closed randomly during the day. The nightly entertainment was lacking but I'm not big on that so it didn't make a difference to me. They attract a great crowd of guests though and we met some really wonderful people. My only complaint is the food. They do not have a lot of options and whatever they do have is just not good. There is also no option for snacks during the day. If you get hungry while in the pool or out in the sea and want to grab a quick bite, you're out of luck. You're going to have to get out, put some clothes on, and sit down in one of the eateries for a meal. Other resorts I've been to had "snack shacks" near the pools with quick food like burgers, fries, pizza, chips, and fruit. If these people put in one of those they'll really take it to the next level. read more

The place was very friendly. Walking in the hotel room everything was clean and fresh. The food was excellent as for the drinks were also.

Everyone at the reception desk made check in nice and easy for my group. We had a great time! Good bar drinks and food too.

I was hesitant to go to Mexico, due to all of the reporting of violence in Cancun. But I must say this was the most awesome resort I have ever been to! Everyone was so happy to welcome Americans! The staff went out of their way to make me feel like royalty! The grounds were clean, the food was fantastic and the entertainment was an awesome blend to satisfy every person's needs! read more
