Pretty good resort! For the money, it is kind of tough to beat. Two really nice pools (one is the "party" pool, one is the "calm" pool). I actually prefer the party pool because it is the one with the pool bar. The resort boasts 4 restaurants + 1 buffet + 1 exclusive restaurant that you have to pay extra for. I'm not sure the exclusive restaurant is worth the extra money - the food isn't THAT good, and it is stuffy in there (read: literally warm and somewhat uncomfortable). We never tried the Japanese restaurant - the menu wasn't very exciting. We did really like the Mexican restaurant and the buffet. These were without question our two favorites. Note - the Mexican restaurant is open to everyone for lunch, but it is only for the "exclusive members" for dinner. The resort was clean and the service was good. I have no real complaints. The only real knock I have - I got sick the last day. I don't know how or why, but I believe it came from the fish at the Italian restaurant. I can't be 100% certain of this, but I don't know what else it could have been. I had a pretty bad stomach illness the next morning and throughout the next day, and the last thing I had was the mahi mahi from the Italian restaurant. So the logical conclusion is that the fish is what did me in. If you're nervous about any of that stuff, then just stick with the buffet and Mexican restaurant. You'll do fine.

Beautiful resort. Rooms are spacious and clean. Room service is prompt and all the personnel's are very polite and friendly. The Beach is not your typical beach as you would expect, it's a bit rough, and smelly due to seasonal seaweed. The walk over to the Lagoon has an unfriendly passage. The resort offers many different restaurants: Japanese, Italian, French and Mexican cuisine. Depending on your experience and expectations to rate the restaurant service and food, we gave it 2/5. The only restaurant we liked that was semi better than the rest, was the privilege! We had paid extra for that. We got sick over the Japanese food. Overall, everything was fine except the food. It was overrated commercial low quality food. I would not go back. Service was great in other areas and drinks were made from scratch with your request.

First course at el Charro

Is this a classic 5 star resort with all the fanciest bells and whistles and luxury, no. But the value for what we paid as part of the Privilege package was absolutely 5 star worthy. My first time in Mexico was spent at the Ocean Maya Royale. Our accommodations were lovely - as part of the Privilege package we even had a hot tub on our patio. My only, admittedly minor, complaint about the room was that there was very little dresser space, preventing 2 of us from being able to both unpack. But they provided a steamer so BF was able to dress for dinner being wrinkly. The food was delicious, even the buffet. My favorite was El Charro. The churros were fantastic! I did not try the Asian restaurant, but I would eat at any of the others any time. By being a smaller resort, there was never a long wait at any of the bars, even the pool bar at the height of afternoon crowds. I thought the cocktail menu was creative even if the specialty drinks were all very sweet. The bartenders are pros at accommodating special requests. By far the best part was the entertainment staff. What could have been stupid cheesy public games were amazing fun that I was really looking forward to by the last few days. We would absolutely return if the opportunity arises.

Special vegan dish that was ordered for us by Carlos in the restaurant next to the pool.

We spent a week at Ocean Maya Royale in Playa Del Carmen and we were blown away! We are both vegan which makes traveling internationally a bit more difficult for us, but the staff here were extremely accommodating! When you enter the resort to check in, they ask if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions. If so, you are given a card that has the restrictions listen on it. For example, our card read "veganos." When you enter a restaurant you hand the host the card and the chef will walk you through the menu to show you what is vegan and what isn't. If you aren't satisfied with the options they always offered to make something special for us! I will say that the staff is not always educated on the difference between vegetarian and vegan, so make sure to say no eggs, dairy, butter, cheese, etc. There are also at times items on the menus that are listed as vegan but are only vegetarian. If you're vegan, your best bet is to have breakfast and dinner at the buffet and lunch at the restaurant next to the pool. The restaurant next to the pool has a great veggie burger with fries that is vegan! There were always options for vegan food at the buffet, but sometimes you need to get a little creative with putting everything together into a meal. We have both been vegan for over 10 years so this is very normal for us! We never went hungry and all the food was good! We would say to not have the "vegano roll" at the Japanese restaurant. It was basically 80% rice and not very good. At the buffet there is an extremely kind gentleman named Octavio who is a waiter. Octavio took special care of us and made us feel like family, we would always request to sit in his section. Octavio understood veganism and always went out of his way to make sure that we had options to eat and would ask the staff to make special dishes for us to surprise us whenever we visited! Another great associate was a man named Carlos who seemed to work at the buffet and at the restaurant next to the pool. He would also make sure that we were satisfied whenever we were eating. All the staff were extremely kind to us and made us feel welcome. By the end of the 5 days we spent there, a lot of the staff had our dietary restrictions, room number, and names memorized. We are so impressed! Our room was extremely clean and we loved finding the towel animal on our bed the fist day we arrived. I believe it is the cleanest hotel room I have ever been in anywhere in the world! The pool was beautiful and clean. There was an excess of seaweed on the beach when we were there, so we couldn't swim in the ocean, but there is no way for the hotel to control that. Everyday they were working hard with large dum trucks and tractors to remove the seaweed as best as they could. The beautiful pool made up for it! The transportation to and from the hotel to the airport was easy, punctual, and overall very nice. Lastly, we loved the great access to cool, clean drinking water nearly everywhere. It was great to be able to fill up our water bottles wherever we went as it was very hot while we were visiting! The air conditioning in our room and in the restaurants was always nice and cold. Also the whole resort has strong wifi! The whole resort was also extremely clean. All in all, we would recommend this resort to anyone. Especially if you are vegan! If you do go, please say hello to Cody the Coati for us !

At this price point was an exceptional find. We spent 10 days at the resort. We stayed in building 12 and upgraded to Privilege. Food was very good with the Italian, Mexican and French being our favorite. Jorge ,Josue, Oscar, David Italian restaurant. Yovanetti and Angel in main lobby Adrian and Alvaro pool side Adella, Arturo, Kendel Blue team. Carolina, Ilsa and Jesus at the Privilege Restaurant...all of these people made the trip full.

Iguanas also were frequently seen

My sister and I just returned from a 4 day/3 night trip and it was a wonderful vacation as long as you know what to expect. We did have an issue trying to book the free transportation and couldn't get through to anyone at the hotel until of course it was too late. If you book 3 or more nights there should be a link at the bottom of the email. Rather than a html link it just looks like a picture from the hotel under all the confirmation info. We ended up paying over $100 for transportation and that was a star off for me. I really think this is a 3.5 star resort. The rooms are dated, have a musty smell, and the shower design is not good with water spilling onto the floor. This would have been a bigger issue, but honestly we came for the beach and that was great. There were plenty of covered sunbeds so we could lay out and read everyday all day. There were vendors that came on occasion, and we did take advantage of the massages from the ladies in blue once as the rates were much cheaper than the resort's spa. Rosario was fantastic. There were 2 pools, which we didn't really use. One was a more relaxing vibe, and the other was top optional apparently and the activities pool. Food: When it was fresh it was good, but the stuff just sitting in the "warmers" didn't really stay warm. They only offer room service for guests staying in privilege rooms, so if you do any late night activities just know food options will be very limited. Drinks: Piña coladas, gin and tonics, and mojitos were pretty safe choices. Again if you weren't Privilege your alcohol options were limited and the juice in general wasn't good, so I wasn't a fan of most other drinks. Only their house wines were included in the price, and the glass of red I had one night was pretty awful. Activities: Like I said we just wanted to chill and read, so we didn't do any daytime activities. We did see a singer with dancers one night, a fire show, and a white party. Those were good. I felt bad for the singer and dancers because the crowd was pretty lame and gave very minimal feedback. They did a great job cleaning up the seaweed and the ocean was warm and wonderful while we were there. Overall we'd consider returning, but maybe see if Privilege is a better experience.

This is a baby Coati. Yes they are adorable and cute but they can/will steals snacks out of you backpacks

Just went recently for my mother's 70th and my sister's 56th birthday.. They truly enjoyed their stay. We came on the 22nd and left on the 27th. Ambiance: 5/5 room are spacious. Nice view from the balcony. They did not clean the room twice a day like it mentioned on their website. But when it's cleaned. It's good. Restaurants: 4/5 there were 5 restaurants to rotate from. Japanese (Hibachi style), French, Italian and two buffets. However, you have to know when to attend which restaurants based on which day.. Due to Covid, not all restaurants are open everyday. And you have to stop to the Japanese restaurant to make a reservation in person. Can't call. And you have to get there at 5:30pm. And later than that, you're out of luck. Cleanliness: 5/5 they kept their resort very nice and clean. You clean your shoes before you step into a restaurant. They check your temp. And for the buffet, you will need to wear disposable gloves to go thru it. The concierge were helpful when they are not busy.. But don't even think about making a phone call to request towels or anything else because the phone doesn't work. Entertainment: 5/5 I'm truly happy with the on-site entertainment. Everyday I made my mom do aqua workouts in the pool. The staffs were all there to help with that, provide lazy games for the tipsy. And water volleyball for those who are more ambitious. This is a smaller resort compared to a few close by. But with my mom being soo scared of the Delta variant. I do appreciate it being on the smaller side. And most important of all is that they provided on site Covid tests. Which cost $35 and you normally get the results back within 4 hrs on the same day. I couldn't have asked for a better set up.. Will come back.

Overall I had a very conflicting experience: Food The buffets were pretty good. I liked the burgers and sausages grilled by the pool. The buffets had fresh fish and ceviche, all of the restaurants are easy ti get into. The only one that requires reservation is the hibachi steakhouse. Unfortunately the food in buffets is better than most restaurants, Sushi is the only the exception. Drinks Drinks and bartenders were great. Pretty good mixes and variety, just wish they served more on the beach. Entertainment Great evening entertainment and activity throughout the day. A good balance of cheesy and fun. Service We had a clogged sink and a broken commode that we reported and asked for repair 4 times. Each time we asked, they said how they will fix immediately and a maintenance guy is in the way, no one ever came, that's not e usable at all. Environment Loved the beach! The weeds were cleaned up daily and it was very nice and calm. There was lot of space and privacy on the beach. There is tons of wild life, I love the little raccoons and lizards around the place. But they do run around the buffet areas and the staff are equipped with water guns to chase them away which is extreme,y amusing to watch. Please note that there is a decent walk between buffet and the beach. It's a large territory. Also loved tons of photo opportunities with a swing, love signs, Mexico signs, and beautiful objects everywhere.

Mayakoba

It felt private, secluded and quiet. We booked a Rooftop Ocean View Suite, but were delighted to get upgraded to the Two Bedroom villa. A bump from 966 to 1562 square feet of space (not including the extra outside space). The welcome drinks, popsicles (for the kids) and guacamole were great and of course the dramatic boat ride to your suite is one of a kind. The suites at Rosewood Mayakoba are amazing. Even the small suites are spacious (I think their smallest room is 788 sqft). Our suite had plentiful outdoor space, its own dock to the lagoon, a private plunge pool and also a large rooftop terrace. Truly too much space for our family of four (2 adults, 2 kids), but we happily enjoyed it. Service was stellar, which I expected at a high-end hotel. My most recent vacations have been to the Caribbean, so the combination of Mexican hospitality along with the Rosewood service really made for a nice stay. Our butler stayed in contact with us via Whatsapp, but we really didn't have many requests except for booking dinner reservations and ordering more cow's milk to the room for our baby. Our kids had their own monogrammed pillowcases, that we took home. The turn-down service also left small wooden figurines (indigenous) which was a nice touch for the kids. There's definitely an extra attention to detail that's on another level from other hotels. We were able to get a bike with training wheels and also a trailer for the kids to go on short bike rides with. The kids club was very good. Lots of planned activities throughout the day and an air conditioned indoor play area. Our daughter was 3, so one of us was with her, but I think kids 4 and older can stay alone. The staff was consistent and got to know our daughters pretty quickly. There are excursions within the property like the bat cave and boat rides which is nice (instead of just staying indoors doing arts and crafts). The family pool was just okay. There's a small shallow part for toddler to play in and also a bigger deeper pool. It's well kept, but I can see how some might say it's time for a renovation (which I believe they are doing). There isn't a very good gradual entry point in the bigger pool, so I would say it's not the most kid friendly for small children (no problem for bigger kids), since there's one step and then it drops off to 4 feet. The beach also is undergoing a lot of erosion along with the sargassum. It's narrow and slightly rocky, so I feel like if you plan on playing in the sand or spend a lot of time in the water, there might be better options. However, it's still quite scenic and perfectly fine for lounging in the recliner. Food was very good (especially breakfast at Casa del Lago), but is pricey like everyone mentions. La Fondita, the tostada restaurant in El Pueblito, is one of the better and more low-key options at Rosewood. There is a consistent kids menu at all the restaurants at Rosewood. We did not get a chance to check out the restaurants at the other hotels. TL;DR - Luxurious and family friendly resort that shines with their accommodations and service. It's relaxing, but quiet and a bit sleepy (might be too quiet for some people). Food is good, but pricey. Kids club is great, but the pool is just okay without easy entry or waterslides. Beach is not best for extended playtime in sand or water. Even so, I still loved it and would definitely return.

Within five minutes of arriving at the Rosewood Mayakoba, we looked at each other and said, "I'd…read moretotally come back here." From check-in to check-out, every person we encountered was nicer than the next. Service from reception to the pool/beach to the butler service to housekeeping to servers in the restaurants -- everyone lovely, taking their time and just giving us a wonderful experience. Our room. Holy smokes. We were lucky enough to end up with an upgrade, and so were in a lagoon king suite. Every morning, I'd sit out on our deck, next to our plunge pool, drink my coffee and listen to the birds. Turtles would swim around, pop their heads up and then plunk back down under the water. The living room area was almost entirely glass, then led back to the bedroom -- with probably the most comfortable bed and pillows I've ever experienced. The bathroom was huge -- with two separate sinks, a dressing area just outside, large tub and even larger separate shower. The back glass wall looked out into our private outdoor shower. This room was so beautiful, we didn't even mind the two days when it rained -- stormed, really. To be able to sit and just look out at the beautiful nature and watch the rain was almost as special as being able to sit at the beach and look out at the water. I'm going to see whether I can share separate reviews of the restaurants, but in the meantime, I'll say all the food we had at the resort was excellent. We also took a cooking class, and learned a bit about how to make some of the food. Truly hope to be able to return!

Rating: (4 out of 5 stars)…read more Our stay at Banyan Tree Mayakoba was overall a beautiful and relaxing experience. The setting is absolutely stunning--lush, tranquil, and meticulously maintained. The villa was private and perfect for unwinding. We especially appreciated the thoughtful touches throughout the resort and the ease of getting around via bikes or golf carts. That said, we're giving 4 instead of 5 stars due to a few key issues that impacted our stay. During a rainstorm, the ceiling in our villa leaked, which was surprising given the caliber of the property. The floor on the top deck of the pool was a bit wobbly too. There were also noticeable inconsistencies in service--some team members were incredibly warm and attentive, while others seemed disengaged or confused by basic requests. Upon arrival, Juan, our service person for the week, mentioned he arranged a golf cart and reservations at La Copa but didn't do either. We also felt very rushed at check in, our flight was delayed 40 min, but some guests received bracelets and other nice touches upon arrival we didn't get. Lastly, we ran into frustrating discrepancies with our final bill that took time and energy to resolve at checkout. While these issues didn't overshadow the overall experience, they did fall short of the flawless service we expected from a resort at this level. Still, the beauty of the property and the many highlights of our stay make it a destination we'd consider returning to--with hopes that the service becomes more consistent and infrastructure more resilient in the future. Shout out to Pepe, Rene, and all the cart drivers who were super!

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and taken by boat across the scenic Mayakoba River to the check-in area. We were offered a room upgrade, which we appreciated. However, during our stay, we noticed several areas where maintenance and improvements were needed. For example, the light switches in the restroom didn't function properly, and many of the outdoor light bulbs were out, including the LED lights above the bed. While I understand that proximity to the ocean can cause wear and tear due to saltwater exposure, I believe that management, especially the concierge team, should ensure that rooms are thoroughly inspected before guests are allowed in. On a positive note, the dining options were excellent, and there's convenient access to nearby resorts with the option for room delivery (with a small fee). However, from a management perspective, I noticed a recurring issue with staff members frequently being on their phones. I recognize that this may be for communication purposes to keep staff informed of activities around the resort, but I would recommend a more discreet approach. For instance, hosts standing at the front of a restaurant should avoid being visibly on their phones, as it can come across as unprofessional, especially in a four- or five-star environment. A discussion between management and staff on maintaining a professional presence in front of guests would be beneficial. Lastly, when I shared my feedback regarding these areas for improvement, the management responded promptly with some thoughtful service recovery measures, which I appreciated.

This area is also beautiful, with a view of the ocean. And the spa is very relaxing, access to the spa facilities including the steam room, jacuzzi is complimentary with your stay. Viceroy isn't without its flaws. The small beach is barely swimable due to the coral/rocks. And though they work to remove the seaweed, if you come from May-Nov that will be somewhat of a pain ( the whole area not just here). And there is music that drifts over from the next door hotel which at times annoys. It wasn't too bad while we were here, but was noticiable. There are mosquitos and rainforest animals around, so if you're not okay with seeing agouti while eating breakfast on your patio, this isn't your place. And yes it's pricey. Nevertheless the quality, service, and beauty of this resort make up for any issues. We didn't want to leave!

But seriously the food not only was beyond disgusting the prices are insane, you pay prices as if you dine at the Four Seasons however the food is terrible! Service - at the beach the staff pretend they dont see you, most staff look like they dont want to be there. The beach is also very ugly with the seaweed barriers its just not at all appealing. The resort is big but it looks unkept and not at all modern by 2025 standards. The only positive thing the room seemed clean but the bed definetly uncomfortable. We will never be back here and will ensure i post this review everywhere because i definetly believe all the positive reviews are paid.

Room was incredible with amazing views. The bar in the lounge served fresh sushi and exotic drinks. We did the all inclusive and their selection of alcohol included was well worth the price. The Italian restaurant had a great vibe to it and all of our servers stayed after closing to make sure we were taken care of until the end. The breakfast buffet had a ton of options to choose from and overlooked the lagoon. The bike rides through the property were fun and there were plenty of golf carts to take us around when we didn't feel like walking. At night, the bar by the ocean was perfect for a nightcap and fresh ocean breeze. The only complaint we had was we couldn't stay longer. 10/10 we will definitely be back!

Even though Mayakoba is not an island, the creators of the resort have created the perfect retreat that keeps you feeling isolated and safe. Mayakoba has 4 hotels: The Rosewood, The Fairmont, The Banyan Tree, and the newest being the Andaz. All 4 properties can be accessed via walking, bike, shuttle, or even boat and have their own set of restaurants. The Andaz offers 4 unique restaurants: Casa Amate, Cocina Milagro, Sotavento, and Tinta del Pulpo (see individual reviews for details). Though comparing the four to each other feels like comparing apples to oranges, the experience at Sotavento could not be matched, as you're having a gourmet meal with toes in the sand adjacent to the beach. Out of the 4 properties, I truly felt the staff at the Andaz were the gold standard. They were always very accommodating, incredibly polite, and competent. If you're looking to bring home a souvenir, I would suggest looking at one of the other hotel gift shops, as the one at the Andaz was tiny and did not provide many options.

There are multiple pools, but we spent most of our time at the activities pool, just the right amount of live music and energy without feeling like a full-blown party. Tons of restaurant options, too, but definitely go early or be prepared to wait. We'd grab our dinner buzzer and head over to Dark Horse for pre-dinner cocktails, which became our favorite routine. Packing tip: Leave the heels at home! The walkways are cobblestone and much easier to navigate in flats. You might get by with wedges, but honestly sandals take up less suitcase space and you'll be happier in them. Every staff member we encountered was incredibly friendly and eager to help. We visited in June during sargassum season, so we didn't spend any time on the beach; but we knew that going in, and with so many great pools, it wasn't a big deal. Definitely bring your own insulated tumbler so bartenders can pour your drinks into it directly, it keeps your drink cold so much longer. The nightly shows were fun, though after two or three they start to blend together. However, we absolutely loved the speakeasy nightclub. Every night had a different vibe depending on the music and the crowd, and we had such a blast there. Our room was great as well, equipped with a steamer, hair dryer, shampoo/conditioner/body wash, plus robes and slippers. We requested turn-down service each night to make the trip feel extra special. The only thing I wish they improved was the late-night room service menu; it would've been nice to have a few more options. The pass-through food box was super cool, they drop the food in without needing to open the door. We would 100% come back to this resort. Truly an unforgettable babymoon!

I had a couple of maintenance issues that we fixed within a day (phone and TV). The mini fridge only has Amstel Ultra. Gross. First all inclusive I've ever been to they didn't have a beer from the country in which it was located. The bathroom and rain shower were excellent. The food was very good. The 4 main restaurants say they have a dress code, but intermittently enforced. Street tacos until 1 am every day. The coffee shop is open 24 hr and had pastries and ice cream. It's good. They offer some different lunch options which change daily out near the main pool and beach. The employees are excellent and attentive, with one exception (see below). The "speakeasy" is a dance club. A lot of fun. Opens at 10:30. Great staff. The entertainment theatre is indoors. It was ok. I saw parts of two shows. The downside: for the single occupancy cost (I went alone to a wedding), the value was just not there for 720 bucks a night for one person. It's "mostly inclusive". The extras are everywhere with a staggering price tag. Beach cabana, extra, bottle of wine at dinner extra, every Restaurant had some sort of extra experience. Ribeye steak at ember, 80 bucks. There are enough beach and pool chairs for the volume of people. Of course, half of them are reserved with a towel or personal item and unoccupied like every other resort you've ever been to. I find this highly unacceptable. The beach is fairly mediocre. It's not very wide. The are not very many chairs, and it's not very fun to swim in the water there if you can find a break in the endless amount of seaweed. It's fairly rocky. It's just the way the Riviera Maya is. The coast sucks. This is the third resort I've been between Cancun and Tulum and none of them had a good beach. And the seaweed is endless, along with the army of workers and the loud tractors picking it up. The worst part was the understaffed pool bar. This is the main activity pool. We were there for an hour or two each day, it was the same problem, no bar back, only two bartenders, waiting 15 to 20 minutes to get a drink. Tipping them didn't get you any sort of faster service. They barely acknowledged your presence. They seemed genuinely unhappy, and they were really the only employees at the resort that didn't seem like they wanted to be there. So I will not go back to this place. And possibly never to a secrets again.

Unfortunately, the reality was completely different from what was advertised online. * Room Conditions: Our room was located up steep stairs with no elevator, surrounded by a scary jungle environment. Inside, the shower barely worked, the bathroom was rusty and broken, the bed was extremely noisy, and doors/windows were stiff and hard to open. Overall, the room was in terrible shape. * Facilities: The pool and restaurants were located very far away (about a 25-minute walk). There was only one restaurant, and the food portions were tiny. When we ordered a second dish, they brought us inedible fatty meat scraps. The bar and its facilities were rusty and poorly maintained. Overall, two very small pools and one Bar * Safety Concerns: The property felt unsafe. We even saw a crocodile and multiple alligator in the water on the hotel property -- extremely dangerous for guests. * Staff Behavior: The staff were extremely rude and unprofessional. When we complained about the conditions, instead of helping us, they got offended and suddenly told us to leave the hotel immediately without refunding our remaining unused 5 nights of stay. They gave us only 10 minutes, escorted us to pack our things under supervision, and forced us out into a dangerous area with no support. It was humiliating and frightening. This was the worst travel experience we've ever had. We felt unsafe, disrespected, and completely deceived by the misleading hotel description. Do not waste your money here -- avoid this hotel at all costs.

While my husband and I had a wonderful time here for our honeymoon and I would love to give this…read moreresort a higher rating, we definitely left with some things to be desired. I do love the all inclusive vibe and not having to whip a credit card out everytime we ordered a drink or food. The breakfast was mediocre, but the lunch and dinner food was absolutely delicious. I think my favorite thing was the tuna steak dinner at the Ambar restaurant. Perhaps my favorite thing about this resort is that it is built into the jungle and is swarming with so much wildlive that my little animal loving self was in heaven. WE were also inpressed with the cleanliness of the rooms and thought they were beautiful. With all that said, I have to ask why don't they provide a list of included activities and their times right at check-in? I had done a lot of research so I had to ask for certain things and then they provided the information, but we did miss alot due to lack of information and we spoke to other couples throughout our week there who had no clue of what some of the included activities are. And on the included activities note, what i did find online was very misleading. Many of the activities listed were NOT included and had major fees associated with them. The other qualm we had was the lack of dining and drinking options. There used to be more options based off of old sineage and others we spoke to who had been there before, but alot of it is no longer there and online isn't updated. There are two restaurants, a restaurant bar and a pool bar. By the end of th week, we were bored with it all and felt that we had literally tried everything. As a couple in their mid-30's, we definitely would have liked something a little more upbeat, but not a crazy party resort like Margaritaville. This is a sleepy resort and if you need a little more action, I would suggest looking elsewhere. Our last issue was that after a storm one night, our closet completely flooded and ALL of my husband's clothes looked like they had been dumped in the swimming pool. While the resort did dry clean his clothing and provide us a complimentary room service that night (he only has PJ's to wear), they had the maintenance guy come on three separate occasions, so we were not even able to enjoy our night in in peace. At the end of the day, they were not ableto fix the problem so we were moved to a different unit. While it was considered an upgrade to the beach suite, we definitely missed our jungle suite. We live by the beach and can see it anytime we want, we paid for the jungle suite to see animals everymorning. We did feel that we had an entire night of our 6 night trip wasted while we sat there for hours as maintenance people came in and out. They should have moved us immediately. All in all, I wouldn't say it's a complete no for this resort, it really is beautiful. Just don't come here unless all you literally want to do is lay by the beach as there isn't much else to do.

However, if you're in the mood for something quieter, smaller, and more intimate, then Petit Lafitte is the one for you. Focused on wellness and tranquility, this lovely little resort offers daily yoga, sound therapy, and Temazcal (traditional Mexican sweat lodge). It's really a place focused on relaxation rather than activities, and there's nothing more relaxing than a massage by the sea. You can take a dip into the pool, close to the beach. The beach itself is a little rocky, but if you walk a little further left or right, you'll find smooth sand. Staff are great! Friendly, attentive, and very helpful. The bartender is a great guy. We got a tequila shot (which ended up being like a triple shot) and he gave us several mezcal samples as well with great explanations on flavour and origin. There's also daily live music in the afternoon, which creates such a nice vibe. In the 5 days I was here, it was never super busy and truly felt like a peaceful getaway. Petit Lafitte prides itself in its little organic garden which provides a lot of the produce that guests consume. The food itself is excellent, each meal was delicious and made with fresh ingredients. The rooms are rustic and clean. My only downside is the weak wifi, which isn't too much of a concern if you're trying to disconnect.
