I wasn't expecting much though, since I've had been to most pubs in the old town and tried more kinds of beers than most my worries were that this would just like drinking but in a new group of people. That's where I was wrong, the historic pub tour is not about drinking and you probably wouldn't expect to leave the tour drunk (but of course not sober). Instead it was an interesting story telling with well chosen pubs and drinks along journey which is well bound together with the history of Stockholm and the alcohol culture. For the story telling I'd absolutely rank this 5/5, it was with big interest, exciting storytelling and good knowledge our guide introduced us to the Stockholm drinking history. The pub choices were well thought through even if it was only 4 pubs, which in my opinion could have been a couple more. We got good mead, beer and schnapps and only at one place took a full bottle the place of tasting cup. Hopefully in the future that bottle as well will be replaced by tastings. Since it takes place in the old town you should absolutely increase the challenge by wearing high heel shoes and bashing your head against the cellar roofs. I've always preferred when tours are not a construct from a bigger company and this certainly wasn't, the tour is held by a Swedish couple with interest for beer and history which makes it so much nicer and friendlier. To sum it up, great tour but could have had some more drinks/replaced a full bottle with tastings and you should definitely do it if you come to Stockholm as a tourist or if you already live here and don't know about exciting facts like how being drunk used to be expected in Stockholm. You will also meet some nice people if you want to make the night longer. Our tour started at 18:00 and ended around 20:45. So I'd really suggest eating before as we got quite hungry at the end.

My husband and I spent three incredible days on bespoke tours checking out fantastic runestones in and around Stockholm and Uppsala with guides Jonathan Olsson and Moa Rahlander and expert driver Christian. Both Jonathan and Moa are very knowledgeable, highly professional and great fun! Both can identify the hand or style of particular runestone carvers and can read the inscriptions on the stones, which provide insight into the contexts and functions associated with raising runestones. I worked closely with Jonathan in planning our three days of 5- to 8- hour tours, which took us to church yards, museums, farm lands, forests, and roadsides to see loads of runestones with a variety of inscriptions and styles. Jonathan was very responsive via email, text and WhatsApp as we planned our outings. My husband and I look forward to a return visit to Sweden to embark on more adventures (including Stockholm and Uppsala city tours) with Jonathan and his wonderful colleagues. I highly recommend Sweden History Tours -- check out the many tours they offer on Instagram (#swedenhistorytours) and on the web at www.swedenhistorytours.se/ -- Christine

The museum tell the story of Sweden's wine and spirit history. The permanent exhibit includes information about different spirits (smell the spirit, guess what it is, for example), and the museum has some smaller galleries for temporary exhibits. When we visited, they had a great exhibit: "True Crime: an exhibition on Sweden's prohibition-era smugglers, bootleggers, and moonshine marauders," which was fun and informative. Those Swedish smugglers were creative!!! The exhibit included several ways of hiding booze (in canes, in flasks designed to fit around a torso or a leg), which were fascinating and hilarious. There was also a small exhibit on Andy Warhol. I think it's important to note that this is a very small museum. We had purchased tickets to the museum as well as flights (also sold on their website) - one of Swedish wines and one of Swedish spirits. I think the museum was quite a fun (albeit short) experience, but I wouldn't recommend adding on the flights. We were told the inside bar was closed and were told to go to their outdoor bar for our flights. When we arrived there, it seemed these flights were a frustration for the staff, who still had to go back inside to get them. The service at the bar wasn't great, and I definitely felt like we annoyed him by asking for the flights. In addition, the flights weren't great (we had better Swedish wines and spirits elsewhere in Sweden over the next few days). However, the small museum was a fun experience, and a good inclusion in a Djurgården crawl if you're interested in something different or Swedish spirits.

Construction took twelve years, from 1911 to 1923. Nearly eight million dark red bricks were used. The Blue Room was supposed to be covered with blue marble, but the designer liked the bricks so much, the marble brick facade was never installed. The staircase to the organ and the balconies are made from a beautiful green marble from Sweden. The floor is a light grey limestone, and the columns are made from a red and green marble from Sweden The Golden Room has walls that are covered with more than 18 million pieces of gold and glass mosaic, created by the artist Einar Forseth. The mosaics contain approximately 18 kilograms (40 lbs) of 23.5-carat gold leaf. As of today, that's 2.25 million US dollars worth of gold. The mosaics represent the history of Sweden, as well as Swedish values. It's hard to describe what this banquet room for the Nobel Prize winners look like, so I recommend viewing the photos I've attached, or better yet, go to the City Hall's website and view this movie: https://stadshuset.stockholm/stadshuset-play/stadshusets-salar-en-digital-visning-av-stadshuset/. It's in Swedish, but you'll get the idea. A visit to a City Hall sounds boring, and many times it is. However, this is WELL worth a visit, when you are in Stockholm. I promise you will be impressed.

Completed in 1923, it seems so much older. And each space in City Hall is so different, with different architectural styles, inspirations, and decor. This is the kind of building you buy books about. A 45-minute tour just isn't long enough! If they had a two hour tour, I'd have taken it. They release the tickets either the week of or the week before, but they still fill out. The tour groups are large, which limits the spaces you can see, but I'm still so glad we were able to get tickets for a tour of this amazing building! You learn about the building, the architect, the building's connection to the Nobel Prize...! And it's just incredibly stunning, too. One of the highlights of our time in Stockholm.

It is a fairly impressive, old building and although I don't feel it compares to similar buildings in Berlin and London - it still is pretty cool to check-out. They do offer English tours every-day but the entrance is quite tucked away into a dark corner - to wait for the tour they expect you to wait outside with no member of staff there which is a concept I really don't like - what if you're early/late or trying to shelter for the rain? The tour times are also quite confusing meaning for a few weeks in summer and winter and around the year they don't offer anything at all - sadly this fell in the time I was visiting Stockholm and I was unable to do the 1:30 pm tour. I really do feel these are peak times to run the tours and the fact they're unable to offer them at this time, is embarrassing and stupidity. Even during these times, I do find having one time per day really restrictive and perhaps offering a few more, even if they charged just a couple of krona with a dedicated waiting area and a bolder entrance would be good. Inside, Parliament is laid out more like a US / EU type structure compared to the likes of the UK. Still, this remains a grand and historic place and a nice sight to see while strolling across the city of Stockholm, made better by the beautiful gardens and canal of the building. 3* due to how difficult it was to find the visitors entrance with only one police officer who spoke only English and couldn't help in a busy, touristy area and other factors such as difficulty finding and getting a tour (even their phone lines are only open 2 days a week for TWO HOURS!) do let what could be an amazing tourist attraction down - like come on, it almost feels you don't want to show off the home of Swedish democracy and welcome visitors from Sweden and overseas?

It just happened that within the hour they had an infrequent tour in English - so we started the line. Eventually a considerable line formed. We had a security check point where they X-rays our things... then we were led to a locker room where we could check some of our things into storage. At this point we were led through many areas of the Parliament House. Considerable time was iven with our guide who brought us into the existing and past facilities. All told this was much better then I might have expected! As such I recommend it to all who have any interest in museums + this was a free tour!

It wasn't in any of my tour books; I think I just happened to see an advert for it in a Metro station. It's a bit of a schlep - from T-Centralen, I took the 14 to Tekniska hogskolan, then took the 6 bus to Drevergatan. A few minutes' walk brought me to the building, which is not on the street; you need to enter the complex of red brick buildings. There are four floors, although two are kind of half-floors. The suggestion is to start at the top, because it houses the history of transit. BTW, just after you start, just after the rowboat, there's a life-size horse model, and it whinnies. Scared the heck out of this poor kid who had wandered ahead a bit by himself. It's easy to see everything. You can go into some of the displayed vehicles to see what it's like. There's a little section with a movie for kids, and a kids' reading corner. WCs, including accessible ones, are on the 1st and 4th floors, towards the rear. There's a wee gift shop and cafe near the entrance, and a little kiddie train (no adults allowed). I'm glad I came on a weekday afternoon, as there were few others here.

If you visit Stockholm, you MUST take a boat tour. Even if you use a different company, make sure…read moreyou get out on the water because the views are absolutely mindblowing. Being from Minnesota, the area actually really really reminded us of our own national treasure, the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area. The landscape looks very similar and I'd guess (though I haven't looked at a map) that the two areas are similar latitude wise so that probably makes sense. The thing that was most surprising to us is that here at home, we have to drive six hours north almost into Canada to reach our favorite wilderness area, and here in Stockholm, you can be out on the water and enjoying nature in under half an hour from downtown (which is really urban and you can't even see the water). It's a really interesting mix of things and all in such a small geographic area. OK so if you choose this boat tour, as others have said, it's about 2.5 hours and basically takes you out and makes a loop. The boat is a nice boat ... large, with both indoor and outdoor seating,. So really you should be more than comfortable on your journey, though I can imagine that in the summertime and the height of tourist season, these boats are probably pretty packed. We were there in March, so the boat was less than half full, which was great. If you plan to sit upstairs outside to get the best possible view, bundle up. Even if it's warm out, it will be cold up there. The views are magnificent and the crew was super cool about letting you roam around the boat as you wished to take photos. The tour is also narrated, and our most impressive tour guide did the tour narration in English, German and Dutch after surveying the people on the boat to find out what languages they speak. I have no idea how many languages this gentleman speaks but he literally repeated everything in three different languages and fielded questions. Very impressive. The boat takes you by a lot of cool stuff, particularly the waterside amusemement park that sits on the banks of the water. But other than that, quite a value for the money and a really really wonderful way to see Stockholm!
