After receiving a steady stream of marketing emails and text messages, I finally booked a class for Friday at noon. When I scheduled it, I explained that noon would be tight because of work. I was told it would be better to arrive at 11:45, and I said I would try. What I was not told was that arriving even a few minutes after noon would mean I could not participate at all. Had that been made clear, I would not have driven across town only to be turned away at the front door. I completely understand that it is best for everyone to arrive on time, especially for a first class. But life does not always allow for perfect timing, and businesses serving working adults should understand that. I arrived only a few minutes late, not halfway through the workout. For context, I coached CrossFit for several years, and I cannot remember us ever turning someone away for being a few minutes late. We encouraged people to arrive early and would quietly help late arrivals get caught up when possible. We would rather have someone complete 90% of a workout than receive no workout at all. The mere idea of turning a customer (especially a prospective customer) away from a workout to me feels unfathomable. What stood out most was the contrast between STRIDE's aggressive efforts to get me in the door and the complete lack of discretion once I arrived. They had no problem repeatedly contacting me by email and text, but could not extend a few minutes of grace to a prospective member whose scheduling concerns had already been communicated. Maybe this policy works for them, but it cost them a customer before I ever stepped on a treadmill. If you are considering STRIDE, be aware that they appear to enforce their arrival policy without exception. If work, traffic, or life puts you even a few minutes behind, do not expect any flexibility.

The gym was welcoming and not intimidating at all. The trainers were super nice. They checked in with me several times during the class. My favorite part was how clear the format was, the screens showing exactly what move you should be doing and what's coming up next, super easy to follow. And a small detail, the changing room was clean and they even had extra hair ties available. Such a small thing but it tells you a lot about how thoughtfully this place is run. i plan to return!
