I called and they told me to come by. I'm new to Huntington Beach, so I was totally surprised when the massage spa ended up close to my home, half a block away. A nice gentleman greeted me, and I did a one-page paperwork. I went over where my trouble spots were on my body, and the type of massage I would like. Jenny was my massage therapist, and we quickly reviewed things before starting the massage. Jenny is a very good masseuse; she really feels out your body and where the knots are, extremely intuitive. I got a combination Thai Swedish massage, Jenny also used some hot stones. She worked on my whole body and focusing on the troubled spot. In the middle of the massage, I thought she was going to turn me over to work on my front, but no, she brought a body pillow and turned me on my side. I've never had a masseuse do this before, and it was very effective because it could reach the shoulders and other areas. Jenny told me she does it to make her clients comfortable because it's hard to lay on your stomach for a long period of time. We came to the stretching portion of the massage, my whole back cracked, I felt such a relief, no more stiffness! I highly recommend this place. Also the masseuse did not ask or confirm whether I had any injuries before starting, which felt unprofessional. The entire appointment felt rushed, and the pressure was very inconsistent. Although we agreed on medium-firm pressure, about half of the session felt extremely light more like I was being rubbed than actually massaged. Overall, the massage felt lackluster, as if she was just trying to get through it quickly. She also applied pressure directly on my bones at times, which was uncomfortable and painful. The most disappointing part was the foot massage. I've had better at nail salons. It felt like 15 minutes of poking and squeezing with little to no real pressure or technique, much of it done under the sheets without much effort. Unfortunately, I didn't feel any relief afterward, which was frustrating. To make matters worse, I received a dirty look when I paid because I did not leave the recommended 20% tip, which felt unprofessional and uncomfortable. It was my first time getting a prenatal massage and Melanie did such a wonderful job targeting all the areas I pointed out and more. Melanie has great energy and a soothing voice. She showed me options of either laying on my side and back or using the pregnant cushion that has holes for the belly and boobs which I decided to use. It was comfortable and safe to use. When she started she used a massage oil that had a lovely mix of essential oils and a sage spray around me. The aroma combined with the calming ambiance in the room; the low lighting, zen music and sound bowl at the end made me feel absolutely relaxed and rejuvenated. Melanie used a good amount of pressure and always checked in on me if I needed any adjustments. The space she rents out of is very clean, cozy and has a cute, vintage interior design since a lot of the decor and furniture is thrifted by the owner. Booking was easy and I did like that you can pay in advance online. You can select if you prefer a male or female masseuse and which type of massage you want and the duration. Upon arriving I was given some cucumber water while waiting. My masseuse met with me before to talk about where to focus and preference. I told him I wanted it hard and to focus only on upper back, neck and shoulders. My massage started off pretty soft and I had to ask him twice to go harder. He also didn't really get in there and it definitely was not deep tissue. It was relaxing but my home massager probably does a better job honestly. I've also had much better massages for half the price elsewhere. The massage "rooms" are divided up by fabric. They're still pretty private but you need to stay quiet with your masseuse.
