Alex was very knowledgeable about the history of New Bern and the area. He's very laid back, but also safety conscious and made sure all 6 passengers were aware of current Coast Guard requirements and the specifics of his boat. We had so much fun with him stopping along the way at certain homes and areas that we actually went longer than the hour and a half that was scheduled! The New Bern Grand Marina Yacht Club has been one of our very favorite stops! The proximity to town…read moreis unbeatable! We loved being able to step off our boat and be in the heart of New Bern's charming downtown area. There were so many things for our kids to do and explore in the area. The marina itself is in a rebuilding state from a recent hurricane. The office is housed in a temporary building that is about a block away from the docks. They do have bathrooms and laundry, but the pool is still closed. The transient dock is brand new and extremely nice. We docked on the far side and struggled to get the marina wifi. My advice would be to try to dock closer to the gate at the end. You will have a shorter walk with laundry and closer proximity to wifi. The staff is very friendly at New Bern Grand Marina Yacht Club and they offered our family several suggestions on restaurants. We will definitely return!

Electric motor was perfect for the quiet crusing and delightful conversation with other guests. We learned about the river, the area, a little history, the locals and some nature. Full 2 hour cruise. We headed to the dock to find out about a boat tour but the company we were searching was no longer…read morein business. We learned this from the most engaging couple, Captain Jack and Mate Marilyn, who just happened to have their own boat excursion company. We decided to cruise with them the next morning around 9:30. We arrived about 9:10, they welcomed us aboard and we were off on a 90 minute excursion. The boat is electric so we were able to approach birding areas without frightening the little critters, such as the nesting Ospreys. We were also able to have delightful conversations about nature, the effects of Hurricane Michael on the area, the lovely church where Marilyn and Jack attend and many more interesting facts about the New Bern area. We were totally mesmerized with the outing and the 90 minutes passed much too fast. It was a beautiful day, an enchanting "voyage" and a totally enjoyable adventure with Dragonfly Cruises. By all means do it when you're in New Bern!

You can be 5 minutes away from hubs of commerce and activity and it looks like you are in the middle of nowhere. My brother had bought a boat and it was docked at the marina. I spent about 10 days here and had a fairly good time. There is a little store that sells wine and beer and snacky-type foods. A laundry with washers and dryers is in the clubhouse. Adjacent to the headquarters is a restaurant/bar (they didn't have their liquor license yet when I was there) where the food is decent, if it is still extant. Lots of dock..._lots_ of dock. The slip was almost as far away from the parking lot as you could get. The marina has wheeled carts that you can load your gear into to facilitate loading your boat. That helped, but I swear, it was like a quarter-mile round trip to return the buggies so other folks could use them. Unless you're a raving asshole and just leave them parked on the pier. I saw some of that. Helpful folks running the place. I had occasion to talk to them several times and they were friendly and helpful. No pretentiousness or aloofness. If you are in the area, toodle on over and check it out. It is quite a drive from New Bern proper, but if you are starved for recreation, you could do worse.

He catered to the needs and dreams of young boys at ever turn, and it was evident he knows the water and channels of the area like the back of his hand. We saw dolphin, hunted shark teeth on a sandbar island, did a little fishing, dropped crb traps, and he taught he kids about all the animal life we encountered including a massive manta ray, and hundreds of fiddler crabs we scooped up for bait.
