Did my google searching for photographers in Houston and contacted about a dozen. Perhaps half responded they weren't available, and half didn't respond. However, one adorable young lady in Austin (3 hours away), Julia Vie of Vivian's Muse, said she was very excited about shooting me! We exchanged several emails about the process and logistics and had an extended phone chat. My trepedation morphed into excitement and anticipation. Let's do this!! The big day! Julia shot perhaps 400 photos in an hour or so, all the while offering instruction, incredible encouragement and showing me what she had captured in her viewfinder. All with a monster camera and first class professional lighting. We shot on the couch, on the stairway, in the window, on the bed. Woah, so exhilerating! Nervousness was gone and my inner goddess had taken over. I'm not one for exaggeration but this was truly one of the best hours of my life. Back the next morning to review and select proofs. Oh no, her computer jammed up, wasn't happening. No problem in the digital age. We had more girly chat, comparing notes on all of the fun we had had the preceding day. A few days later the proofs arrived via email. I was blown away. OH MY! That cannot possibly be me. But...it is! Being a goddess, even for a short while, really gets in your head. And stays there. I had just turned 40 and had been grappling with post partum depression and dealing with big…read morechanges and challenges-- having just moved from NYC to Austin and starting over with a new life in a new town with a newborn and toddler in tow. I felt like I really need to recenter and focus on making myself happy. I committed myself to fitness, working on my mental and physical state and wanted to celebrate my bad ass post partum body after baby with beautiful photographs outdoors in this new town that's now home. I found Laura Saucedo with Inspire Boudoir online as I was researching outdoor boudoir photographers. Her work really spoke to me and after meeting with her (a fellow mama who could empathize with my motherhood journey) it felt like we were friends and I could totally get naked with her. Hahaha! I had the most empowering, liberating, and amazing experience being shot nude in the waters of Krause Springs with Laura (which she has private access to during their off season which felt so lucky having the place all to ourselves!). She was so much fun to hang out with, with her white girl dancing (to help make things lighthearted and fun) and her positive, fluid vibes (go with the flow, accommodating changes, being organic, and embracing the day and whatever temperature, lighting and elements came with it). It was 70 degrees in December and the sun was shining at noon but the water was frigid cold.. and I am deathly afraid of deep water and can't swim but wanted to take photos under the waterfall (which required swimming). I packed a kick board to help me get to the rock landing under the waterfall but was overcome by the freezing cold water and compounded by my fear of drowning and was clutching onto the tree roots for dear life... but something from within overcame my fear and I pushed away from the side and got to the landing under the waterfall! Yay!!!!! And Laura was able to take these majestic and magical photos under the waterfall and in the spring that day! This experience taught me so much about the importance of not having to be perfectly planned, the grace in being adaptable and the beauty in that. Laura is an incredibly gifted photographer, such an amazing light and being to be around and her work is profound, timeless and empowering. It was the absolute best gift I could have ever given myself (and my husband!), commemorating my 40th birthday and I highly recommend Laura with my whole heart! She's worth every penny and even gives back to endearing causes. I love that so much and I love Laura so much!
