We got to see the two telescopes and to learn a little bit about them and the building. We got to also conduct a few experiments and to learn some fun science facts The staff was super accommodating and really were great with the kids. My favorite part was learning that there was a real crypt in the basement! I thought it was just something they were saying for the event, like a spooky activity! But no a real crypt in the basement! That part to me was fascinating! I look forward to coming to an even here again!

The Observatory itself is an amazing historical landmark and I highly recommend the free tours (which require advance registration). We have excellent neighbors here who look out for each other. The annual House Tour highlights some of the great architecture in the community. There are some beautiful older homes in the neighborhood. We have quick access to the parkway and only 5 minutes from Downtown.

The Observatory is locked in Deer Lakes Park, and situated high on the hilltop with scenic views in every direction. The most wonderful thing about Wagman are the Star Parties. They are packed with people of all ages. Some have brought their portable telescopes, while some arrive hoping to look through both of the large telescopes housed at the Observatory. There are presentations, for example, an Introduction to the Night Sky." Periodically there are announcements made about things to look for up above. It's quite an evening of education and fun. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. And it's a great way to learn about the Observatory. I was amazed to find out that several Association members have had an asteroid named after them, and that our presenter discovered a Super Nova while at Wagman one evening. Association members who take a yearlong training can get keys to use the Observatory.

This is my local bar so I am kind of stuck with it. In the area I live in Observatory Hill the…read moreoptions for food and drink are sparce. The bar area is always decorated for holidays and seasonal events. I think the owner does have some good interior decrorating skils. This is a very urbanized bar though and the only wine they have is Taylor Port and boxed :( one occassion I lucked and actually got a class of Merlot I couldn't even get a margarita in here, I asked for one and the bar tender said "I don't have the stuff for that." And of course the ever present creepy older men in here can be annoying. This place is not my cup of tea.
