I go to the Oasis in five ways (Brighton), and I have nothing but praise for my dentist.
Our previous dentist literally traumatised my little girl (then 8 years old) by telling her off for not brushing her teeth properly and then proceeding to a very rough polishing of her teeth which made her bleed. While he polished her teeth, he berated her non stop for not doing her job and reminding her that his job as a dentist did not include keeping teeth clean etc etc. She didn't dare say anything but burst into tears once out of the dentist surgery.
I changed dentist and registered with Oasis where the dentist she saw was EXTREMELLY child friendly and oh so gentle with her. On the first occasion, he didn't do anything to her teeth. Just had a look at them and that was such a good idea because she needed to see that all dentists weren't monsters. That worked!! The following week, he explained with great humour and detail HOW she should brush her teeth (rather than telling her off) and managed to make her laugh. Since then, she is brushing her teeth carefully twice a day and sometimes says: x will be really happy with the way I keep my teeth clean won't he mum?
I have also received treatment for myself. My teeth are very bad and I need constant care. Any treatment needed is explained VERY carefully to me first: which options I have in terms of treatment, how it is done (in great details as I want to know everything), why, how long it will take and how much it will cost. I am therefore able to make an INFORMED decision about the treatment BEFORE treatment begins and I feel confident and empowered that I am doing the right thing.
My dentist is the most patient, calm, professional dentist I have ever had. And clearly the hapiness and satisfaction of his patients are more important to him than making a profit (as I have seen with many other dentists).
Something else I like: he has a lovely painting on the ceiling just above the chair. If we get bored whilst having my treatments, there is something beautiful to gaze at!!!
I have not put the name of my dentist here as I don't want people to rush there and swamp him with work (I know a bit selfish but it took me 42 years to find him so I'm not telling). Also, I don't know if it's allowed, but hey! You guys now know where to go! I'm sure all the dentists who work there are as excellent as mine!! read more
