We chose The Oaks for our wedding venue (5/9/26). I cannot recommend Katie and Erin enough! From start to finish they were absolutely wonderful. They made sure our special day went smooth, they coordinated with the vendors and were there if anything went wrong. Aside from the wonderful coordinators at The Oaks, the venue itself is great! The tent is spacious enough yet still feels cozy and has a great relaxed atmosphere. Bathrooms are located inside the clubhouse, but not too far of a walk from the venue space. I would 100% recommend The Oaks as a place to have your wedding. read more

Attended a party in the club house. Very nice accommodations, great service clean facilities. Drinks were good, great Octoberfest on tap. The food decent beef on a stick was really chewy, chicken teriyaki was okay, the spicy rub wings were really good. Good cheese & crackers fresh & tasty, stuffed mushrooms were good but over stuffed with massive chunk of sausage. Overall a good place to go! Great view from the back deck too! read more

Have driven by the course hundreds of times,but living in West Allis, never had the chance to stop and play. We needed a coucliser to Madison, so this time one of our party did have to drive by us in the Milwaukee area for once,so I looked them up. Reasonably priced(if you play after 4:30 ,$51 for 18 w/cart,otherwise it's $62 ish) so we booked for after 4:30( gotta move if you wanna get the full 18 in).Nice setup with a driving range and putting green for practice and a decent pro shop and decent bar and eating area(they also had an auction going on in a separate event tent,which I assume is also used for weddings).The course has multiple tee boxes,and I do mean multiple,in order to make it easier or tougher,depending on you skill level.Their carts are really nice ,with yardage led screens and ball washers and divot repair bottles to fill in the divots course is well manicured and has several hazards to challenge you.That brings me to the one reason I don't give them 5 stars,the greens.Given the quality of the rest of the course,it was very disappointing in their quality. They were mowed well,but lots,and I mean lots of roughness all over( could be lots of the golfers just didn't pick up their feet),which at most courses I've played, were never as bad as this and were taken care of better.I definitely expected better given the quality of the rest of the course. This public course is situated about an 1 hr. drive to the west of Milwaukee, WI., and closest to Madison by about 15 mins. Exit north off of I-94 onto Cty. N, then immediately east onto TT (parallels I-94) about 1 1/2 mi. to the entry drive. Anyway, this golf course is a links style course and is fairly wide open. However, there are opportunities to loose golf balls, as in any golf course. Especially in the fall time with leaves. Overall, I liked this course and the employees are nice enough. The very comfortably seated, riding golf carts with GPS can get quirky though. Do NOT drive them in unauthorized course areas. The GPS screen will promptly let you know! In fact, the cart may cease operating or greatly reduce driveability. Also, maybe I had a bad GPS screen, but the touch was quite difficult switching back and forth to golf course holes and scoring card. Annoyingly, it can get busy with slower play though. Many don't keep up as they should, and there was NO ranger. Nice club house with a good bar & restaurant (average $13-17.00, sandwiches) with golfing simulators behind the bar. read more

Played this course for the first time on a Wednesday around noon. It's well conditioned a has some challenging holes. However the pace of play was brutal. 5 hrs to play 18 holes. Pace of play matters. No rangers in site. I can't imagine what it must be like on weekends. Just ridiculous. read more

I have always heard about what a nice course The Oaks is. It was finally time to see what the buzz was about, and I was not disappointed. I showed up a bit early to get settled in and hit a few balls at the range. The practice green was big, but what I was really impressed with was how it reflected the actual greens you would be hitting later in the round. Some practice greens are generic flat spaces with a few holes to putt at. This one had some big slopes and interesting hole placements - exactly what you'll be dealing with later in your round. Nice The range was great too. Many ranges are just deep/wide green spaces with yardage markers and a few flags. This one was basically a cut fairway with various hole-type targets around it. So, instead of hitting it out into a big green space, you could see if you were "on the fairway" or not. More places need to do this. The clubhouse is clean and the folks are friendly. While the pro shop isn't huge, it has exactly what you need. No complaints here. The course itself is great. Unlike standard courses that have 2 par 3 and par 5 holes on each nine holes, The Oaks has 6 par 3 holes and 5 par 5s, with just 7 par 4 challenges for your round of 18. We played the blue tees which made things even more interesting. The course plays very well - everything is well cared for and the greens are pretty immaculate. The fairways are often wide and receptive to your tee shots, but well-placed bunkers and challenging rough will have you thinking about that drive. Hole layouts vary to add character to the course - it's not a bunch of straight-shooting par 4's that get boring. Sometimes you have to layup, sometimes you have to "go for it". The bunkers play well - the sand is nice and consistent to hit out of. It rained pretty hard the night before, so we had to deal with some wet sand and standing water, but that's not unusual. This is the type of course that gets better the more you play it. Being my first time out, I didn't quite know where my ball would go - judging distances by eye was difficult, so use the GPS in the golf cart to see yardages to the various targets/hazards. For example, I believe it's hole #9 - a par 5 that doglegs right, then back to the left. There's a fairway marker that you can see from the tee - but it shows you the left edge, not the center. I had a great drive right at the stake, but found out as I got up there, that I was out of play left of the fairway. Oops! Next time I'll play that hole better, but it cost me a stroke for not knowing better. I should have studied the GPS map better before teeing off... I will definitely have to return to this course to prove to myself I can do better. I shot well enough for my first time there, but with the knowledge I gained during that round, I'm excited to see how the next round will go! read more

Full disclosure: We are not golfers, so this review is purely on the bar and restaurant. We were extremely excited to hear this place opened for the season to add another local option to our dining repertoire. We were not disappointed!! First off, this place is refreshingly bright. Well lit with tons of awesome exposure windows with phenomenal sunset views. A welcome deviation from the Wisconsin norm. The menu was significantly limited given it was their "Spring Menu" so there weren't many options. But you could tell they chose intelligently, defaulting to warm comfort foods you want on somewhat chilly Spring days. Rumor has it the summer menu triples or even quadruples the options, and if any of them are like what we experienced, that is truly something to put on your calendars. The food was amazing. Great quality, superb flavors, and well proportioned for the price. The chili has a smokey barbecue spin that is just deliciousness. The burgers surprise you with bursts of hearty top-notch beefy flavor you rarely find anymore. And the dry rub wings are perfectly seasoned and are a perfect marriage with their butter-infused warmed buffalo sauce. We can hardly wait to experience their full menu! The bartender was exactly what you want. Friendly, warm, talkative but not too talkative, and just all around fun. You could tell the owners paid a lot of attention not only to the building, but also to the experience. And it was done extremely well. We now be frequent visitors to this place, and are looking forward to an awesome summer full of new menu items and great memories. That is all we had on the bar and restaurant, the rest of this review is a discussion on the "Dead Heat" sauce they offer on the side. I am a hot and spicy food kind of person. If you are as well, you are going to want to read this. I normally enjoy the spicy sauces or flavors towards the very top of the scale almost everywhere I go. But this place has something called "Dead Heat" that was shockingly hot. I mean how often do you go to a place and the server says "Oh, it's pretty hot" and then get the sauce and it's just meh. Not here.. oh no...definitely not here. You get this unassuming bottle with the normal blown way out of proportion warnings and the usual scare tactics rigmarole usually done in an attempt to boost sales. It was also accompanied by the customary warnings of the bartender similar to those heard at wing joints around the world. So I foolishly ignored the warnings on the bottle, and also the appropriate warnings from the bartender, put a decent splash of the red liquid on a cracker, and popped it in my mouth. The next 10-15 minutes are somewhat hazy and I may never fully remember all that happened. The first 3 seconds were awesome. Great happy smoky spiciness that "gets your motor running" and the endorphins kicking in. Then the heat kicked in and all I wanted was a giant rewind button on my life. It was like nothing I had ever experienced, and just wouldn't quit. Rarely had I ever experienced full-on regret, boy did it hit me this time!! My motor stopped just simply "running" and got a dose of liquid hydrogen mixed with white gas and nitro glycerin that damn near blew my gaskets off. Then my endorphins said "screw this" and took a vacation to a different country running for their lives as soon as they realized what was happening. Stronger and stronger the burn grew until it peaked out at about 2 minutes in. I was teary eyed, my tongue was lava, I was sweating bullets, and my lips were giant burning beluga whales stuck to my face. I tried water, I tried celery and carrots, I tried crackers, I drank ranch dressing in gulps, I shoved spoonfuls of sour cream in my mouth (unfortunately they had no milk so I was trying anything I could think of). Hell, I would have licked the tires of a golf cart if they would have told me it would help the pain. The fire burned its nuclear fury and all I could do was sit there and suffer, wishing for anything to remove the atomic grade acid burn I was experiencing. Finally after about 10 minutes of hell, it started to subside. Second only to the birth of my son and my first date with my awesome dream girl life partner, this was honestly one of the most welcome moments of my life. I tried to pick up the pieces of my shattered pride, but the previous 15 minutes of my life had reshaped me forever. I am now a fraction of the man I used to be, leaving part of my soul in that hot sauce bottle forever..... So if you are a hot sauce person, try the Dead Heat, but do so via mere drops, not full on shakes of the bottle!! read more

Wonderful golf course! I've been playing here since it opened up in 2003. At first it was a little rough around the edges but has grown to be a real enjoyable & challenging course. It has a balanced combination of big hills, winding fairways, deep bunkers, undulated greens and challenging pin placements. The grounds are maintained pretty well considering all the water around. Staff is friendly, courteous & helpful. Especially the ladies. LOL! Price to play is affordable considering the many courses surrounding Madison & its amenities (see below). Average round in 2010 w/ golf cart was around $48 (Peak). Only small gripe would be the noise from the I94 freeway. Doesn't effect my already crappy golf game though. Amenities: GPS assisted golf carts, driving range, teaching & fitting center, big dining area, full kitchen, full bar, outside deck that overlooks #7's par 3 green, full beverage carts & attractive cart girls. Note: I was here for a holiday party so this is only a review for the service and food in the clubhouse. Service - 4 stars. The people were all very friendly and attentive. The bartenders were great and knew their drinks (albeit you only needed a few, they were poured very strong). The clubhouse itself is also very nice. It was still decorated for the holidays and was very clean. Food - 2 stars. We started the meal with a salad, which was fresh and the dressings good. Then we had a choice between fish, pork and chicken. Not much description was given about each so I was fairly surprised when the pork arrived in front if me and was breaded. The meat itself was tender and decently yummy. But it was covered in a thick apply-fruity-not sure what it was sauce. The mashed potatoes were also a weird consistency and the green beans tasted like they had been soaked in butter. Overall, not very impressive. read more

The Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove is the BEST Public Golf Course in Dane County. The golf course is always in fantastic shape and they have great customer service. I would also recommend that you check out The Oakleaf Restaurant at The Oaks. They have a great menu with tons of options and I think they have the Best Fish Fry as well including Cod, Lake Perch, Salmon, and Mahi Mahi. Bent grass, paved cart paths, challenging course (hilly with plenty of deep sand traps), carts with GPS/locations of other players, a decent bar & restaurant (typical Wisconsin upscale bar food recently improved menu/kitchen staff; service can be spotty)...all for a reasonable price! Sunset golf (start time varies from day to day) is $25 for all the holes you can play; I typically get 12 holes in before dark. They seem to change gold pros every couple of years, but lessons have always been excellent. And the practice areas are well maintained and conveniently located together near the clubhouse. The club house is undergoing renovation/expansion currently (May 2017). But the facility is fully functional. read more

Had a great time getting out on the Golf Course. They bent over backwards to make sure we had a safe and enjoyable time. Stopped for a bite to eat after our round of golf and was pleased with the distance between patrons. Food was outstanding and the service was very friendly and responsive even though they were a little understaffed. I can understand because it was one of the first times they were open for dine in. Staff was nice when setting it up, but it pretty much stopped there. The course looked so promising, but I feel their grounds crew purposely targeted us as we went to each hole. They literally were on every hole with no sense of courtesy or regard for our game. I mean we paid a pretty penny to play only to be have a person mowing, raking bunkers, blowing the fairways or some weird tandem of two carts dragging a long hose throughout the fairways. One crew member continued to mow around us while we were in the green, didn't even stop just kept circling us. My drive on one hole went into a bunker and the crew simply threw my ball out of the bunker. Not only was this a ridiculous price for what it was but just an incredible lack of etiquette for people who pay to play at this track. Pace was so slow considering an early start that our group and the group behind us simply gave up after hole 14. read more

I stop in pretty regularly for lunch. They have a great lunchtime menu and always have several specials and a soup du jour. The staff is quick with drink refills and always replaces the lime in my ice tea. (I know I'm annoying, so I appreciate it even more). Today they had a Gyro Burger on special and it was delicious, paired with the New England Clam Chowder. Prices are reasonable, and it's a nice departure from the usual lunch spots. read more

This is by far one of the best public courses in the entire state! The fairways are so neatly trimmed that it feels like carpet. The greens are the best conditioned greens I've ever seen! And the layout of the course makes you feel like you're golfing at a PGA tour stop! I took advantage of the twilight special so it was only 25 bucks and we easily got in 18 holes. I loved the carts with the GPS screens and I loved the tips that the screen had on where to hit your ball and what club to use and so on. Lots of neat scenery too like a few deer, some brown cows, and even a hot air balloon flying overhead! I would absolutely come back here in a heartbeat. Enjoyed every minute of my round! read more

We played The Oaks on June 8, 2019. We got off to a delayed start due to a golf outing. However, the pace of play was exceptional after that and the course was in great shape. The beverage cart team was outstanding. There were no coolers left at the bar to take on the course so we really appreciated the exceptional service on the course. There are many courses that have non-existent or sub par beverage service. The Oaks was one of the best I have seen in a long time. read more

I have golfed a lot of the courses both private and public in the Dane County area and the Oaks Golf Course and Clubhouse ranks up there as one of the best. The staff is very inviting and always helpful both in the pro shop and in the clubhouse. They can turn ones' bad day (having a bad round or running late to make a tee time) into a better day by the upbeat personalities they have behind the desk and bar. The golf course itself is well manicured. Each hole provides its' own set of challenges ranging from bunker placements, to water hazards, to woods surrounding some tee boxes/ greens, not to mention the sometimes very difficult pin placements that they like to throw at us golfers! The price is very reasonable and they always seem to have options available to families to make things affordable. In addition, I know that they are very good at working with those that wish to hold a golfing event at the course. In terms of the clubhouse, I have eaten there several times and each time I've really enjoyed the food. I highly recommend the Friday night fish fry as it was not only delicious, but there was more than enough to feed my group. Overall, I think it is a great place to not only play a round of golf, but to enjoy a cold beverage and some great food. read more
