Do not go to Oakmont park if your kid is over 4 years old! This used to be a good park with offerings for a wide range of ages. Some overeducated park steward had the dumb idea to forcibly remove the monkey bars and the saw marks are still sharp and visible where the bars used to be. For any kid over 4- life is all about monkey bars and I had the misfortune of hanging out there with a 6 year old while we were waiting for her friend to finish a dental appt. The girl literally cried and bawled about how terrible the person was who removed the bars as there was "Nothing to do in the park for anything but drooling toddlers!" Toddlers get along fine with 6 year olds and there is no city improvement happening when certain kids feel excluded. I have told everyone to give it a miss if their kid is over 4. Also there was a breastfeeding mother on a bench being ridiculed by the formula moms, so I will always think of this park as just nasty. Do we need new city planners in the rec. dept? Yes. Can anyone answer to this park atrocity? Who removed the monkey bars and why? read more
