Their Lower School principal also resigned recently to relocate (although many would say that was a good thing). The academics at Oak Hall are not great in my opinion and the favoritism, again in my opinion, is unlike anything I've ever seen. Unless you are a big donor or friends with an administrator please don't even consider Oak Hall. Over the last few years many of the best teachers and brightest students have left for Frazier or other private schools. I also know for a fact about behavior issues and racism that have occurred that would shock you. The fancy gates and prestigious price tag status entice many families until they actually get to know the school. Some of their buildings are around 50 years old and are in desperate need of work. After 'nationwide searches' they tend to hire parents or people that many teachers and parents don't even want.

THE BEST - all 3 of my children have attended The Academy Preschool and I am incredibly grateful…read moresuch a school exists. As a full time working mom, an elementary school teacher, it was very difficult to spend my days away from my babies. The Academy made it so much easier. I knew they were safe and LOVED. The educational experience, low class numbers, high standards for safety and excellence are worth every red cent I spent. I wouldn't send my children anywhere else. The staff are compassionate, understanding and efficient. I love this school and thank god for it daily.

There are many considerations and factors to weigh when selecting a pre-school for your child…read more Gainesville Country Day School hits every mark. The teachers challenge each child at their personal academic level, while providing a rigorous yet holistic approach to education. In addition to a sound academic curriculum, the children are exposed to both visual and performing arts, public speaking, a foreign language, physical education, with an emphasis on collaborative and interactive work and play. I actively educated both my children and grandchildren and that leaves me rarely impressed with traditional schools. Having visited and interviewed several schools in the Gainesville as well as the South Florida areas, I find this school genuinely impressive. From the beautiful grounds, the passionate teachers, the insightful administrators to and including the overall culture, you will assuredly provide your child with an exceptional learning experience at Gainesville Country Day School.

The school teachers are not trained to deal with students that have any type of learning…read moredisability, and do not have any other staff to support children with learning disabilities. Their "Title One" program is poor and does not really offer help to the student, is more of a "detention" than learning. Homework and responsibility of learning are constantly being shoved to the parent because the teachers are busy teaching "the FCAT" so that they all can pass and the school can get a good score. There is not real care about the children well being and future by any of the staff, including the principal. When presented with the challenge of a student that cant "run with the pack", the teachers will immediately label your child as lazy, depressed, among other names. They will offer you no testing of any sort or any kind of assistance to try to determine if your child has a disability or does not actually want to do the work. My experience and my child's experience with this school were nothing short of a nightmare. I would recommend being proactive early if you think your child might have a disability and seek for an alternate school. I guarantee that you will not receive any support from anyone at the school to actually help with your child's learning.

Where else can a kid get a great education and get to swim on Fridays!? JG is run by a family, and every child is considered a part of their family. Jeff, the founder of the school, loves all the students at JG, and they love him too. Class sizes are small so each child gets personal attention from their teachers. Students are allowed to learn at their own pace. If they are ahead in a subject, they don't have to wait for their classmates to catch up, they can simply move on. Children are encouraged to be creative and share their passions. Parents are encouraged to volunteer and teach electives each semester. I personally taught an elective there and greatly enjoyed spending time with the students. There is no other place I'd send my children to school!

Only a few have changed through the years most of them she has been with since kindergarten. This school is very active in all forms of art. While the teachers themselves are caring and dedicated, the administration under the current principal is an absolute disaster. Negligence and lack of basic child safety are ongoing issues that have been ignored or brushed aside by those in charge. The school's leadership is unresponsive and unaccountable, making repeated and serious errors that put children at risk. Communication is poor, concerns from parents are dismissed, and there seems to be no real oversight or willingness to improve. To make matters worse, the St. Augustine Diocese--who should be stepping in to protect students and hold the administration accountable--is just as indifferent. It's incredibly disappointing to see such disregard for children's wellbeing from those who claim to represent a faith-based educational institution. I wouldn't trust this administration with my child's safety or education. Until major changes are made at the leadership level, this school is not a safe or trustworthy place. The teachers deserve better (as there are so many who stay because of our kids)! The kids deserve better! And parents deserve the truth! Avoid St. Patrick at all costs. Please pray with me that the new Holy Father makes the changes needed in Catholic education in this diocese.

My son started when the school opened when he was 2 and graduated from VPK last year at age 5 (we…read morewent for four years). As an only child, I was very worried about him being isolated from other children because social interaction is so critical at this age. At Open Arms, he learned so much - his ABCs, how to count, write his name. He learned how to share and interact with his peers. He learned acceptable behavior and when his behavior wasn't the best, the teachers all worked with him on "better choices." Since he was a full time student, I particularly liked the combination of organized activity and free play time (both inside and out). Play is a child's work and it is through play that they learn. That he had a great balance is very evident in the person he is today. What I also like is that over the years, the staff has had a mix of age groups. It's not just older women, some are just out of college, some are moms with kids of their own. I really liked it when there were two guys on staff who were great role models. We were very fortunate to have been able to spend four years at the school. My son does like to come back and visit his old teachers.

However when I got there initially I was told to take a seat and they would call me in to take my exam. I sat and waited for thirty minutes before I finally went up and reminded them I was there and they took me back. I didn't really mind because it was a practice round, but if that had been my real test date it would not have helped my nerves! The computer and the station I took the actual test on was dirty and was distracting while taking the test. There was black hairs randomly on the screen and where I was supposed to place my ID which grossed me out. Overall for a testing center it was fine, but they could defiantly improve their cleaning practices!

The facility is well upkept, and no equipment was falling apart or anything. It was also a nice touch to have gigantic posters of the different algorithms to glance over in the rooms. Our instructor Melody was phenomenal! I learned she came from the Gainesville location. She made the experience worthwhile/exciting while not drowning us with information overload. She was very professional, knowledgeable, and patient. Her personality made the experience less stressful as it was new ACLS certification for me and I hate testing. We watched the lectures and had more of a big group discussion after each one, where the class lead, and she helped "fill in the gaps." When I had clarifications or wasn't too confident on something, she took the time to listen and answer my questions, along with providing tips on how to "digest" the information or giving tips or mnemonics to help remember certain information. I didn't feel rushed when stopping the discussion to ask a question, nor did she make me feel "dumb" for asking. She also emphasized that even though everything is generally important to understand, she also took the time to tell us what's "commonly seen" or not seen in practice. As I've stated, I hate testing. But after doing all the videos, discussions, and mega code (hands on things), I felt more at ease. And even after finishing the exam, she allowed us to stay and discuss/clarify any confusions we had on the exam, and explain the reasoning. I will definitely be referring to this site to all my colleagues! Melody was awesome! Thank you! I look forward to renewing with you all in the future.
