It wasn't awkward at all ... being that I never played tennis. Coach Joe is AWESOME. He's funny, full of energy, and treats each one of us like we can be a tennis star even in our later years. I found the Summer Class for the little kids (5 years old) to be reasonable and luckily in my time schedule. Monday's at 4 and Saturday mornings. The coach is so good and he really encourages my daughter. She's 5 so I don't know if she'll be good or not ... but it's definitely great to get outdoors and introduce her and I to something new. They also have a lot of free and for profit events. Join the email group. If things remain the same I'll forever be a patron whether active or passive.

The max capacity for the class is 8 people, so you have to make your reservation early - this is easy enough to do on their website. They also offer round robin tournaments and other organized pickleball activities. My only gripe is that it's not easy to reserve a pickleball court if you just feel like playing on your own. Sometimes, when the weather is nice, we feel like going out for some impromptu pickleball and don't feel like competing. Still looking for places in DeKalb where we can easily reserve a court and do our own thing. I believe you can call to check availability and reserve, though.

While there have been some negative reviews from the recent closure of the boys team, one person this can't be blamed on is the owner. She has allowed the men's program to run at a deficit for years, while the person responsible for the program has not taken any initiative to grow, including completely disregarding repeated requests to do so. Yes it is sad for the kids, yes it's sad for the parents, yes it is also sad for the owner and yes she has a business to run and can't keep taking losses. I read everything on the website regarding pricing before sending an email. Paul was amazing at responding to my emails. Very professional, helpful and fast! We left a deposit and that was it. We were booked Lol We confirmed the guest counts days before the party and we were set. Nonetheless, the big day came and the performers were so helpful with set up and clean up. They didn't know what they were doing with the decor - some things were damaged - but they were very helpful and kind. It was all honest mistakes. And they were apologetic. The performers and Paul kept the kids busy the entire time we were there. They were patient, attentive and organized with all of the different ages we had there(2-10). We paid for a lot but it was worth it. We opted for face painting, balloon twisting, unicorn character rental, extra performer(we had a fire breather, stilt walker & juggler), the balloon drop(which was "wow" for the kids AND the parents) and additional kids to attend. There was a large projector on the back wall playing kids bop music videos. We did the circus party. We opted for this because there was a zip line, trapeze, high swing and aerial silks from the ceiling. It was definitely a lot to cram into 2 hours-- but it was so worth it. Paul and his team did an amazing job. I'll post some professional photos so you can see the space was HUGE. We had 19kids and 25adults, it was awesome. We received so many compliments on the CLEANLINESS of the facility and PROFESSIONALISM of Paul. I can not give enough praise for Buck's Sport Barn. That was definitely a 5th birthday party to remember. With the tip we left behind haha! There is a summer camp they advertised as well. We'll definitely look into that this year. This is a "bait and switch" for college age students seeking employment for the summer. The people who run this camp give very little information up front about how this camp is run--especially if you are an overnight worker (No overtime is given). The delay is long for the training modules. The people who run this camp seem to not care at all about the people they hire--or their experience--which is a terrible business model because this, of course, affects the kids' experience at the camp. IDTECH was not forthright about the hours (basically 12-14 a day), and they glossed over the realities of dealing with 15-17 young people who need medications, structure, and lessons in bullying. They do not have enough counselors for high-maintenance kids, and they do not staff enough people for the overnight options, as some kids are behavioral issues. As a parent of a college age senior who thought this would be a good opportunity, I would not recommend anyone sending their kids to this camp, and I would not recommend anyone seeking employment with IDTECH.
