She told me what I needed to do after I lost my TX DL and needed to replace it with a TN DL and change my name (since I'd recently got married). I reached the DMV (State Drivers Center since I'm transferring), after an hour's wait, I tell the lady what I told Ms. Avis had told me and since I didn't have my current DL that I would need to come back with a TX "Surrender form". SURRENDER FORM! This form is used for folks who do not wish to drive, physically incapable of driving, have a certain type of DL for sex offenders, or ineligible to drive due to losing privilege's. I don't want to SURRENDER, I wanted to replace and convert it to TN. Anyway, if you call for help, Ms. Avis is a 5/5 stars which made up for my crappy service/unreliable information at Gore Road in Knoxville.

I will say that this is an interesting place. This is where you go to get your car tags renewed or…read moreregister your car or get a handicap plate/tag. To get your driver's license, that's a separate location, which is kind of strange to me. I'm used to going to one place, the DMV - Department of Motor Vehicles - in California. It's an easy place to get in and out of, even when there's a long line. I've never waited more than 15 minutes or so. Coming from California, you can wait up to an hour and more, and that's WITH an appointment. Here, you just walk in. I've been there when there hasn't been any line and that's even more amazing! And the fees?!? You will never ever hear me complain about the fee to renew your tags. It's a flat fee of like $29!!! Yes! Again, in California it's a percentage of your car's value, meaning I've paid over $400 a YEAR to renew my tags. I keep waiting for Tennessee to say, "just kidding! Give us more money", but they don't. Oh, except if you live within the city limits of Chattanooga, you do pay $5 for an extra city tag. THEN you also pay a fee of $9 to do you car emissions test. In California (yeah I know I've said it many times) the emissions test or "smog check" as they are called there, does not have set fee. The centers are not State run, they are privately owned and can cost from $25-$100 or more. So here in Chattanooga I pay a whopping $43 a YEAR to renew my car tags. I'm telling you people, you don't know how good you have it here when it comes to government car fees. It's amazingly awesome!
