But much like bowling alleys, Skatin' Place is one of those joints where a cross section of ages and backgrounds gather. The biggest feature is, of course, the rink. Your standard roller rink--smooth floors, lots of people, fancy lights. Around the rink, you've got some moderate amounts of seating for lacing up your skates or taking a breather. Gotta say, not a whole lot of seating, but you get creative. There's a fast food line which seems specially accommodating for skaters. The pizza on Friday night was surprisingly good! The location: Easy enough to find if you're looking for it. But also easy to miss. There's plenty of parking, but make sure you're looking for the sign. Tips: Friday night they have a deal where it's $16 for skates, rink time, and unlimited pizza and pop. My friends, for those of you with children or a yen to relive your middle school days, that is a FANTASTIC deal.

There is a lot of water access and picnic areas. Trash receptacles conscientiously located. Nice sledding hill, weather permitting. This day was 5 stars but that needle sucked out my joy at having to explain why and how needles are dangerous to my kis upon leaving.

The greens were in very good shape. I didn't care for the layout - there seemed to be a lot of short par fours and long par threes. The greens can be rolled up on but are very hard to read - challenging. The fairways during Fishing Opener were in rough shape - lots of bare spots. Hopefully they will grow in. The track is pretty tight with a lot of trees and the pin placements were tough for amateurs like us. Also - the carts lacked any technology like even a distance finder. This course is walkable - a little hilly but short walks between holes. This would be a nice course for kids and learners that aren't going to care about their score as much.

The park is…read moreknown for its scenic hiking trails, sandstone cliffs, and the views of the Kettle River, making it a great place to spend a few hours exploring. Our goal was to find the waterfall, but like many first-time visitors, we ended up taking a wrong turn and wandered a little longer than expected. Honestly, it turned into part of the adventure. As we explored, we spotted deer quietly moving, squirrels darting between the trees, and plenty of birds and caterpillars along the way. We discovered quiet trails, beautiful overlooks, and peaceful stretches of the river that we might have missed if we'd gone straight to our destination. The sound of the water, the surrounding rock formations, and the forest scenery made it one of those places where you naturally want to stop and take it all in. If you're visiting Banning State Park for the first time, don't stress if you get a little turned around. Give yourself extra time, wear comfortable shoes, and enjoy the journey.
