The lobby is very spacious, with a nice huge ramp for the physically and not so physically challenged and a very colourful color scheme. The building was built in 2002 and is the first of its kind in the city. The lofts are very skeletal in design, the kitchen has the basic appliances and industrial shelving but the most impressive thing for me are the floor to ceiling windows that drench the entire unit with light. All the interiors have polished cement floors and metal railing flanks that ascend to the second floor of each unit, the lofted bedroom. The sizes of the units range from 650 to 900 square feet. It is built in the newly developing area of the East Village so one of the difficulties can be a somewhat sketchy neighbourhood and perhaps weaving in and out of the new construction that seems to pop up suddenly in random areas. But for me, a really interesting modern and sleek way to do inner city living. Great job Battistella!

I put the washer/dryer combo to use right away. Convenience for daily routines is really great as well with a drug store and grocery right across the street. There's even a cozy little cafe on the ground floor. The hassle of having to pick up and drop off the keys across town during check-in/out is the only thing keeping this place from a resounding five stars.

I know you know this particular building because it's patchwork of coloured glass makes it an obvious funky hip location. Never in my wildest dreams would I imagine setting foot inside because I assumed owning property there was not within reach. Today with the recent good news of a mortgage approval I thought why not? What would I lose if I walked in? Battistella office generously gives half of its space to a Calgarian artist, a new artist each month as a matter of fact. They decided to partnership with the arts community and offer an artist a space to paint and to sell without commission. So walking into the office is like walking into a gallery. Such nice guys at Battistella! Glen met me at the door and had such a relaxed tone that I managed the courage to actually ask him about the places available in the building. He took me to a wall and explained the pricing of the different floors of the building and exactly what was available. The blueprints are actually printed on the wall of the Battistella office so you get a great visual of what to expect. He then proceeded to show me two amazing suites which had polished cement floors and great floor to ceiling city views with very modern layouts. He explained at 1000 dollars down you could actually put a space at Colours on hold for two weeks, if you changed your mind within that time they would refund your money for you without penalty. But if you wanted to continue with your transaction a 10% minimum deposit and the proper paperwork could basically get you the keys to your own brand new crib! I was floored; he made it sound so easy and so affordable. Basically with a small deposit and the mortgage to back you up, condo fees, and taxes you could own one of those puppies and pay $1,300 a month. Now don't many people in Calgary already pay this for rent? So imagine the ease, you can actually own a property here and pay perhaps even less than you pay for rent. He was so easy to talk to, and knew so much about the building because he is in fact one of the builders. The building itself is one of 5 projects they have in the city and the detail to specifications, design, down to selling information is so well thought out. Today I walked away like I was walking on a cloud. I was so grateful that Glen made the tour and the information so easy to understand I felt less intimidated and more optimistic about Colours as a buying option.

I've been living in the Sundance since September (almost 6 months now) and all I can say is it…read moreseems to be all about location, in more ways than one. First of all, one of the major selling points on this place, at least for me, was the fact that the C-Train line is about two blocks away, which means just about anywhere in the city is quickly accessible. To be honest, had this same building been located anywhere ELSE, I probably would have kept looking, but between the convenience and the awesome view, I fell in love. However, that brings me to my second point, also location related. I got lucky in that the apartment I'm living in is on the north side on a high floor, so I can see over the adjacent buildings, and have a nice view of the river, Kensington, and the backing hills (with Sait and the like on them)... it's really quite gorgeous. However, on the south side the building faces... well... another large building. And even on the north side, the building across the street only ends at about the 17th floor (out of 20) so really, these views are rare. Otherwise, the building is pretty standard stuff - the buzzer rings to a phone number of your choice (which is good, cause I was informed by the roommate I moved in with who already lived there that the previous tenant took the key to the front door with her, so I've had to use my cell phone to get in), the elevators are a bit slow and occasionally glitchy, but nothing too serious. There's an attacked parking structure, but it does cost extra (don't know how much since I don't drive). Also on a bright side, the walls are well insulated, sound-wise. In all these months I've never once heard my neighbors, and at times can't even hear a knock on the apartment door if I'm in my bedroom. However, there are rather strict time restraints on things like the garbage shoot and the laundry room, which is confusing given these facts. This is kind of a pain, but worth working around for the benefits. However, if you have your own vehicle, and can't land a north-facing suite on the upper 3 floors, it basically just becomes a very standard building for a very standard price, and ceases to really be anything special.

We hired an exterminator who told us the unit had been infested for years and we likely didn't realize until a week in due to stress hibernating.
