From the moment I walked in the door I felt reassured and confident that I would be treated with respect. Kim and Sunny were an absolute joy. They both went above and beyond to get me the help for my dental issues in a prompt and courteous manner. The other lady at the front desk is pleasant and kind as well (sorry, I did not catch her name). Doctor Alan Chebuske is the very meaning of what it is to be a doctor. I have seen many doctors in my years and can honestly say that I have never met one that made me feel as respected, reassured and calm as this doctor. He was pressured for time but it never showed. He made me feel like every moment he had to spend with me was the most important moment to him. He paid attention to me as a whole and did not once disregard anything I had to say and was therefore able to reach a full understanding of my overall dental needs. I never knew that my back pain played a roll with my neck and jaw pain. I simply cannot say enough about his gentle and kind manners. I must also mention that his education is apparently supreme. Like I said, I've never seen a dentist that knew so much about how everything works together. If you're looking for the BEST general dentist in Portland then look no further! PHENOMENAL Dental practice!!!…read more But first, a little history...I was recently given a rather dire prognosis during an emergency visit to my former Dentist. I left her office in shock, with little explanation of how the current problem could have occurred, and a paper copy of a referral to an oral surgeon. I was basically left to fend for myself without experience and was completely overwhelmed. This came as a shock, so I began looking for a second opinion. In speaking with the Reception staff and Patient Coordinator at Peak Dental by phone, I was immediately taken by how present they were in listening to my situation and working to find an open slot to fit me in right away. Once there, I was greeted warmly and they spent over TWO HOURS hours with me, talking/listening, examining, photographing, reviewing transferred X-Rays and creating a path forward out of the mess I had found myself in. I can honestly say that Kaitlyn is the best, I repeat - THE BEST, Dental Hygenist that I've ever had the pleasure to be treated by (I'm a huge Chicken...Dental anxiety doesn't begin to describe it!). She was incredibly present (great listening skills), patient and gentle in performing a thorough examination and forming an assessment. We were then joined by Dr. Anders, who reviewed the transferred X-Rays, along with new images they had taken during Kaitlyn's examination. Dr. Anders explained the situation and possible causes in great detail and patiently addressed all of my questions. They formulated a treatment plan that would not only address and resolve the situation that I had found myself in, but one that would all but guarantee that something like this will NOT occur again! Lastly, I worked with their Billing Rep to work out the finer details - she was funny, knowledgeable and super helpful! Needless to say, I have switched dentists and will now be a happy client of Peak Dental Health from this point forward. As a side note...The folks at Peak Dental truly understand the importance of up-to-date technology and have all of the bells and whistles that you would expect to see in a larger, metropolitan dental office. When I first moved back to Maine and discovered that a 'deep cleaning' consisted of a Hygenist trying to slip a metal pick 5mm under the gumline and sadistically scrape away for 45 minutes, I thought I had accidentally taken a wrong turn and ended up back in the Dark Ages...Folks, it's stuff like this that makes Maine look like a cultural backwater. You will NOT encounter the low-tech approach at Peak Dental or their staff - You'll be in great hands!

I've had good experiences, but within the last few years, and with a change in management, this place has become a borderline scam. I came for a routine cleaning before work and was met with mandatory full mouth x-rays and a separate gum appointment. I only needed a cleaning, but they could "not provide" until the other gum appointment was completed. When asked if we could forgo the x-rays, she said no and replied "We need to know now to get this done" while my insurance info was still being processed. I waited on the "Primary Dentist" for 15 minutes for her to look at my teeth for 2 minutes and say I needed ANOTHER additional cleaning for two teeth (which she did not elaborate on). Now, I am fine with paying for x-rays (even though I didn't go there for them). But I am not okay with paying $91 for an obligatory "Dentist Visit" that revealed nothing but more charges when I have never had dental issues in the past, much less not have any of them explained to me. In all, I paid $300 for x-rays I didn't want, no cleaning, and a requirement for an additional appointment later in the year. It is really shocking how this place treats loyal customers, and even more chocking their unprofessionalism. Don't go here.

At 8:00 on the appointed morning I opened the door with trepidation. My reaction was immediate- relief! The waiting room was cheerful and bright and the receptionist friendly and welcoming. The other patients even looked happy to be there. I sat down long enough to text my husband about my good feelings when I was called back by a smiley hygienist who gave me a tour of the office. A tour! Never once have I ever been given a tour of a dentist's office. It's clean, modern, and every employee I passed smiled and waved. The two hours flew right by! Regrettably I can't remember my hygienist's name- but she was really sweet and funny. She and the dentist, Dr. Fox, asked me lots of questions, walked me through my x-rays, explained every step of the cleaning process, and made sure I was comfortable throughout my entire visit. Not only did they tell me the work I would need done to improve my smile, but they also recognized and praised my daily personal mouth care habits. Then they sent me on my way with a goodie bag of floss, tooth paste, a tooth brush, a water bottle, and an appointment in November. Progressive was such a breath of fresh air compared to my previous dental providers. They didn't try to bamboozle me. They weren't patronizing. They were kind and didn't act as though my presence was an inconvenience. They genuinely seem to enjoy and take pride in the work they do. I'm recommending them to all my friends. My appointment was a month and a half out on the day I was supposed to come in. I said I had to reschedule because my back was still really hurting and I didn't think I could sit in the chair. They told me it would be a $75 rescheduling fee which is absolutely crazy nor did I know anything about this fee people should not be penalized because life events. I also have MS which I had also told them which had nothing to do with this particular circumstance. But if there was a chance that I had a flare up and I couldn't make it, did that mean every time I was going to be charged $75 I could see $25. I could see something reasonable but 75 just seems so greedy. So to say the least I did not go. I exchanged a few emails with the dentist himself but he had no empathy or compassion, whatsoever
