Although my children enjoyed their time at Oak Harbor Christian, the school maintains a status quo attitude that has hindered it's competitiveness compared to other Christian schools in Mount Vernon and Burlington. Unless promising changes occur, I would not recommend this school.
At the end of the 2014-2015 school year, at the eleventh hour, because of budget constraints, the school Board abruptly announced that it was no longer going to offer a Pre-K to 8 program. The Board did not consider requesting parent input before it decided to only offer PreK-1st grade .
The Board's attitude placed blame on the parents for not being proactive about the school's dwindling enrollment over the years. At the last minute (July), a K-5 program was patched together with volunteer staff members which included a VOLUNTEER principal. Despite the untraditional make-up of the staff, student tuition remained unchanged.
I know people who currently attend the 2015-2016 school year and I'm so glad my family is no longer involved with the school. Grades 2,3, and 4 are COMBINED and taught by a teacher who just graduated from school.
I invite you to review this portion of the school's website: http://www.oakharborchristian.org/about/faq/. Pay particular attention to the what it means to be in "The Society" and understand the Board's role as "overseers of the school."
If you are considering this school, BUYER BEWARE!!! Consider what you are paying for. Tuition is over $500 per student--is it worth the volunteer staff and combined grades??? Furthermore, the Board can make changes to the school curriculum at anytime. read more
