I was a student there in 1996, and it was the worst year of my life. I was hazed by my dorm roommates, upperclassmen, and even some of the staff. Despite several attempts to talk to the dean of students (a very obese man who would ride around campus on his personal golf cart), he seemed to only concern himself with whatever was being served in the cafeteria. I called my parents and told them what I was going through, at first, they thought that I was just making things up because I'd vehemently objected to going there in the first place, until I came home during a holiday and they saw bruises.
The dean, principal, and finally the headmaster (after several attempts to get him on the phone) all denied my claims, swore up and down that I was lying, and implied that not only was I the troublemaker, but that is likely inflicted the injuries myself. Unfortunately, my parents sent me back after the holiday, and things only got worse from there.
Their allowance program, where I "earned" $12 a week, suddenly became zero dollars per week for the remainder of my time there. The hazing grew worse, and to the point where I didn't even bother with telling anyone anymore.
After a serious meltdown and begging my parents to let me come home for a few days, mainly so I could show them that I wasn't lying about my experiences, the reluctantly got me a plane ticket, and I went home. 2 days after being home, my mom got a call from the principal, saying that I was not to return due to "threatening a teacher with a stick." Normally, my mom would've sided with her, only the principal screwed up and told her that the incident took place the day AFTER I'd flew home.
I never thought I could ever be so happy to be expelled. And at last, my parents believed me.
Due to their lovely policy, the school kept my entire year's tuition, and my things were packed by the staff, and mailed back to my house. Of course, a television, Super Nintendo, stereo, and some other personal effects were missing. My parents would call them repeatedly to reclaim the items missing, but nothing was ever done. Eventually, they stopped taking my parents' calls altogether. I finished that school year with all A's, and got on with my life.
This school was absolutely terrible. They search your mail and even read your letters, and they search you and your luggage whenever you come back from a holiday vacation. Hazing was practically encouraged, theft and vandalism of personal effects was rampant, and nobody there really gave a damn what it's like for a 12 year old living away from home for the first time. read more
