On January 15, 2026 our family suffered the lost of my Dad. It came at a shock as his passing was quick. Oahu Cemetary assisted me through each step of the process in this difficult time. Being that it is an emotional process our coordinator Sherie worked very hard to help in the process as we faced a simple but troubling issue. Despite this Sherie kept in touch and through this we were able to complete the process and retrieve his remains. The urn that I purchased from them was a beautiful Hawaiian Koa box that now holds the remains of both my Mom and Dad together. My Mom passed away back in 2020 during the lockdown and we were unable to do anything for her but handle her cremation. Now with the passing of my Dad, he and my Mom can be together as they were before 2020. They were married for 43 years and finally together again not just in heaven but as their remains sit together in this beautiful urn that was also beautifully engraved. Dad passed back in October 2025 and finally laid him to rest last month April 2026, as I live on the mainland. Raymond was extremely helpful, patient, empathetic, and very kind throughout the months, while keeping in touch with my aunt who lives local. He went above and beyond to make sure dad was taken care of while planning his final destination at Punchbowl Cemetary. My mother was taken to the mortuary March 9. Today is March 21 and she hasn't been cremated yet. Today is Saturday, so it will be at least another two days. There was a lack of communication, both internally and with me. They called the day after her death to ask for information they already had. I had gone in prior to her death to give them all that information. The woman who called hadn't bothered looking for the form before she called. I posted an unflattering review yesterday out of frustration after being told everyone was gone for the weekend and there was no way to find out my mother's status until Monday, three days away. I had been told she would be cremated yesterday. But no phone call, no communication at all. It has been difficult to reach anyone. I had to call several times to find out they were waiting for a signature from the hospice doctor. If I had known that's what they were waiting for, I would have called hospice sooner. Miki Ho called me this morning and addressed my concerns in a very compassionate way. Hopefully my mother will be cremated Monday, thirteen days after she was taken to the mortuary. Hopefully he will address the issues that are leading to me spending another weekend with my mother still in the freezer at the mortuary. read more

REVISED: Review of Oahu Mortuary - Disappointing Experience with Raymond T., Senior Funeral Director/Arranger (August 2025) In August 2025, we worked with Raymond T., Senior Funeral Director at Oahu Mortuary, to arrange my father's service. While he completed the basic tasks, there was a clear lack of care and attention to detail throughout the process. During our meeting, he didn't take the time to properly review the documents with us. He simply pointed out where my mother should sign, without walking through what she was signing. We trusted that everything was in order -- it wasn't. Despite knowing my father was a veteran and arranging for his burial at the veterans cemetery, Raymond incorrectly marked "No" on the form asking about military service. This mistake caused complications and additional costs, like having to pay for extra death certificates. When we brought it up, he didn't acknowledge the error or take responsibility. On top of that, the obituary he prepared was incomplete -- it was short, lacked important personal details, and didn't even include my father's place of birth. Losing a loved one is hard enough. Families should be able to rely on funeral professionals to handle these moments with care and respect. That was not our experience. The family of my father. read more

The good: The staff is very kind, helpful and supportive. Micky and Darryl were amazing. It took them awhile to notify me her ashes were ready but they were very apologetic about that. The not so good: There has been no publication of my Mom's passing from January 19, 2024. When my Mom passed, they stated I could send a write up about her to be published on their web site. To this day there is no publication of her even passing away. I have contacted them via email regarding this but have never heard back. read more

Then the medical center team to where we had a final time to see our dad Ronnie Jaralba Sr. Where my siblings and I were able to see our dad off into the machine to start cremation. These guys give 1000 percent love and support. They ran it smoothly and made sure everything was as it should. It was my responsibility as the oldest to take care of the whole situation for dad. Being it was my first time for some reason I had strength from them to help me get through it. I'm proud of myself for handling this for the entire family. My young nephew passed away recently. The stress level and grief are just unbelievable right now. Throughout the whole planning, Oahu Mortuary worked alongside everyone involved. They were even working with my family off island. In the end, we were able to have a beautiful service for my nephew and fly his urn back to Guam, where he will be with his mother and the rest of the family. This cemetery was very peaceful. When we came in the morning, people were walking their pets and exercising. We saw the royal mosoleum as we waited. Coming back for the service, everything was set up for us. We had tables for the food. We had a beautiful setup in the chapel. It was really a small but intimate celebration of life. Overall, the staff were so helpful and understanding. It was the Whaling Era and foreigners needed a final resting place. This site in Nu'uanu was chosen because it was a relatively short carriage ride from the harbor... I never really had a reason to visit this historic place until my friend's mom passed away last year. I wasn't able to attend the service because of the COVID-19 restrictions. This year (2021), we celebrate the first anniversary of my friend's mom's passing. It's a rather sad way to bring the family together. However, we can look at it as a celebration of a life lived well... A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend... Rest in Peace, Catherine... Oahu Cemetery has several entrances and exits. The property is gigantic! On the far end, there's a building with niches. Pass the mausoleum, go to the end of the lot, cross Nu'uanu Avenue, and find an extension of the cemetery! Look for the pond and waterfall near the chapel! The grave art is beautiful! From angels and lambs... to crosses and The Star of David... If anyone who values history will know this place is worth visiting. THIS IS THE FIRST CEMETERY MADE IN HAWAII LET ALONE THE FIRST CREMATORY IN WEST. This place dates back to the 1800's. They have iconic names buried here. Family ties & much more. So, when you come here, it's like you feel a piece of Hawaii's history. Knowing they still upkeep all of their graves, makes it easier to want to hold a service here. Why?! Because you know they VALUE history, they appreciate life & cherish memories. I found that their Price for services is reasonable. Also, part of the cost goes to sustaining the grounds itself. Preserving history & the memories of those who are laid to rest here. What I love best about this place is... Mauna'ala is right above. Oh! Mauna'ala is also known as THE ROYAL MAUSOLEUM. That is where our kings & queens of Hawaii are buried. So, I found it perfect to hold my moms funeral services here. Not just because she was Kanaka... but because she was born when Hawaii was just a territory. Which I find befitting since this place was built before Hawaii forcibly becoming a territory OR state. So YEAH! I think many would enjoy it here. Even if it's just for a visit! My parents are simple, and having an expensive & extravagant "funeral" would probably make them mad. Oahu Mortuary - My dad aka Mr. Aloha - Funeral Services & Cemeteries Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Oahu Mortuary is our family mortuary. Oahu Mortuary have cremated multiple family members over the years. All mortuaries throughout the islands are pretty slammed, but Oahu Mortuary was able to pick up my loved one and cremate them within a reasonable time frame. I called a few other mortuaries, and they didn't pick up, or the call went to some random sales number for an unrelated item (super weird and not sure if the line was re-rerouted or hacked). Raymon Takiue and his staff have been nice, and prompt in following up with me, even when I am several hours ahead in the mainland. They answered my questions, scanned in important documents I needed, allowed me to have a special cremation urn from overseas sent directly to the mortuary, and made sure that I'll have the proper paperwork I need to fly overseas with my loved one's remains. The mortuary itself is older, but they do have EDRS access so the information of your loved one's death is sent directly and electronically to the state so they can issue the death certificate (if it isn't a medical examiner case). The cemetery grounds are beautiful, and the offices are quiet, and you wait outside if you need to pick up any documents. There's always parking, and it's a quick drive from town. On Friday, May 10th we had my cousin's celebration of life service at O'ahu Morturary. We were blessed to work with the amazing team of Bryce, Lau and Johnny. They helped with making sure everything ran smoothly and according to the program. Not only did they do what their jobs may entitle, but they went above and beyond and made us feel like family and not just people having a funeral service. They made sure we were okay emotionally and that is a huge plus under the circumstances. They were friendly, displayed what we know to be aloha and so much more. Mahalo nui loa for helping us feel comfortable, less stressed and for your unconditional love during this time of mourning. This awesome trio helped set up and breakdown. Although they told us multiple times not to worry about anything and let us know they had it, we still helped breakdown anyways. :) Wifi was available which helped us run our zoom for our family and friends. There were tissue boxes on each pew. We didn't have to use our own. Hand fans were passed out due to having a huge turn out which helped greatly. Tables and coolers were available to borrow for refreshments and lunch. Parking is tight, but it worked out for everyone. It was nice being able to come in a few days prior, to make sure our slideshows ran smoothly on their system. We also were able to look at the facility ahead of time too. I loved the fact that I was able to speak to Bryce on his personal phone verbally and through text. He always responded immediately which made things less stressful. We totally recommend the assistance of this awesome trio for your loved one's celebration of life. **Arrangements for funeral service/cremation were made with Raymond. **Loved one's ashes were ready to be picked up 4 days after service. read more

I have been waiting since April for my brothers death certificate. Now I understand that the delay in getting it was not their fault. But now that it's in I wanted to have them mailed to me as I live quite far from their offices. I was told it would cost me $42.00!!! Because it is government documents! This place is crazy! A woman in her 50s passed away over a year ago. Since her husband is in a foster home for dementia, her family in Japan payed for cremation and set of death certificates to be mailed to Japan. They cremated her and mailed ash but not death certificates. Husband's state-appointed case manager took all certificates so that they can make themselves as degingnaged payee for husband's fee. Her family was upset but paid again for additional certificates, which were never mailed. Father in Japan was waiting and waiting so that his daughter can have a proper burial. With the stress, his health went nose dive and after a year of waiting, he passed away. Till this day, the woman's ashes are at her sister's home, forever reminding father's pain. They have provided credit card numbers, security codes, name and address of sister multiple times. Now they say the family in Japan can order them at Dept. of Health. Such a lack of accountability and crude way to treat family of diseased. Loved one's death is hard enough, especially children's death. Imagining heartache of her father brings tears to my eyes. I am a long time hospice nurse. I have seen many, many death. And I hope this would not happen to anyone's family. My prayers for the father, daughter, and all other families who are grieving. read more

On birthdays, special holidays I go to pay respects to my parents, grandparents, and aunt & uncle. It is a very interesting cemetary with grave markers, family plots, some have photos and the saddest of all are the infants whose headstones tell how very little time they were on our earth. The parking seems so limited now as there are "no parking " signs where we usually parked. Though you rarely see workers the grounds are maintained well- no overgrown weeds and flowers that have withstood too many days in stagnant water is not a common sight. Just recently I saw a waterfall as I parked so far to the left/ we used to just see the ducks in the water closer to the office area. read more

I feel our funeral planner Lucy needed more training maybe?! Besides the first initial meeting we never heard from her or she never returned our calls until 3 days before the funeral! She was very unprofessional and I was very Unsatisfied with her as our funeral planner. Bryce on the other hand was on point! His communication throughout the funeral and his genuine personality was awesome as if he was Family! I'm a photo volunteer for Find A Grave, so sometimes I go to places I normally wouldn't go, like an ancient, old cemetery in the middle of urban Oahu, for example. The ironic thing about visiting the dead is that in a span of about an hour, I learned more about living people and the history of Hawaii from one visit to Oahu Cemetery than I have in about a month sitting in high-school history class. I saw the graves of the Judds, the Waterhouses' and the famed Captain John Dominis, which, up until yesterday, thought it was just a fancy name of a restaurant we used to frequent. The Judds and the Waterhouse family are very prominent people in Hawaii's economic and business history (and buried across from each other in family plots). I actually met a Doctor Waterhouse 20 years ago but had no idea he was linked to old Hawaii blood. John Dominis restaurant closed down recently, but it was named after a captain lost at sea (it was a seafood fine dining restaurant). I also learned that John Owen Dominis, direct descendent of the Captain, had an illegitimate half-Hawaiian son who was later adopted by Queen Liliuokalani, who was the scorned wife of J. O. Dominis (she never had children of her own). There are tiny angels and lambs on top of the tombstones, which tells you a sad story about children being buried here. The Jewish memorials seem to be all huddled around a giant, large, leaning Norfolk Pine. The Japanese tombstones are cordoned off with a chain-link fence on another side of the cemetery and there are ancient stones and newer stones. Space must be extremely limited for a traditional burial in the middle of urban Oahu amidst Hawaiian historical figures and royalty. Did I find the tombstone I was looking for? Not at all. I stopped by the office, and although the lady helping me was nice, she didn't offer to give me one of the many photocopied grave maps she held in her hand and just gave me verbal directions. If I thought Mililani Memorial Park had a confusing layout, this one was worse as there were no numbers...anywhere! I left without taking a photo of the grave I was set out to find, but in return, I learned a lot about Hawaiian history. read more

My dad passed away 10/19/22, we contacted Oahu Mortuary for transport & cremation services. Once dad was with them, it was difficult to set up an appointment to arrange services. I understand they deal with death daily, but your staff should treat each family with empathy. Seniah lacks empathy. I conveyed to her that we didn't want dad kept in their "temperature controlled environment" long & wanted to cremate him as quickly as possible. He was finally cremated on 11/02/22. If two weeks is quick in their books, that's pretty sad. Especially when they advertise that they offer "Next Day Cremation Services". At one point she wasn't responding to my emails, so I called the main office & left a message with the operator AND left Seniah a voicemail on her direct line (which she provided us) - she claimed she never received any of the voicemail/messages left for her?? OK, what about my email? No empathy AND no professional business etiquette? The first week of December, the office called to say the death certificate was ready for pick up. The female at the office had a hard time finding the certificate, and we waited a while. A correction needed to be made, and on 12/16/22 we received a call that the corrected/new death certificate was ready for pick up. When we got to the office, the male found the certificates & told me to wait a moment while he walked out of the office. Upon returning, he apologized & said the certificates weren't ready - the original ones were still there and he doesn't know why they called to tell me they were ready. To say I was livid is an understatement. The office workers don't have any idea what they're doing. They don't truly understand or care that families are grieving, and the additional stress they put on families by being incompetent is unacceptable! I finally picked up the new/corrected certificate 12/29/22. As far as the service for dad, TRISTAN was absolutely amazing. Oahu Mortuary is lucky to have Tristan as a Funeral Director. He is most definitely their saving grace. read more
