    Trinity Church View

This is a review about my first appointment with a primary care physician, Dr. Yelena Iskhakova. I have Healthfirst Insurance, and through some miracle, I found out NYU Langone accepts my insurance. I called for an appointment. I found the people over the phone extremely professional and courteous. Compared to other healthcare systems I've encountered, making an appointment was extremely easy and efficient. Their Broadway office is in an historic building next to the Trinity Church. I went up to the second floor, and the reception area is spanking clean and modern, with computerized check-in. You enter your information into an iPad like device and after that you speak with a person at reception. I have to say, compared to Mount Sinai at Union Square, I found the reception to be much more organized and speedy. My appointment was at 9 AM. I waited about 10 minutes when a physicians assistant came to get me. He was a young man who took me into the examination room and did preliminary tests such as blood pressure, weight etc. He also showed me about NYU Langone's online medical resource, encouraging me to sign up to get access to my records, appointments, etc. Then Dr. Yelena came in and was very patient speaking with me about my health since this was a primary care appointment and a yearly exam. Then she sent me for blood test on the same floor just steps away. Then I got a flu shot, which was also on the same floor and very close. The premises were modern and extremely clean. Sorry for the length of this review, but I was really blown away by the quality of this medical center. And I wanted to give everyone as much information as possible to make their decision. I'll report back if there are any secret charges as happens so often with this nations healthcare system. But for now I'll give a huge thumbs up to NYU Langone in the Wall Street area.

Yesterday I had to spend the night in the ER to rule out some potential cardiac related critical issues. My physician and PA as well as my nurses were extremely busy as the place was packed, but everyone, from the great transport team, to the techs, worked as fast as they could with empathy, and the doc team, in particular, communicated with me in a detailed, straightforward way that was humane and respectful. After a tumultuous year of ER visits, procedures, and admissions the wait times in the ER, the once in a blue moon crabby and most likely exhausted nurse, and even a few egregious situations do not dim my gratitude for this hospital, both ER and inpatient. My hope is not to experience either for a very long time going forward, but I have tremendous appreciation and respect, especially for those who labor in the often overloaded ER and for the specialists who have saved my life if not literally, then by tackling my heart issues so I can have a great quality of existence.

They did not have the empathy to cover her up or at the very least, leave her in the ambulance while they figured things out. 7 - This happened last Tuesday afternoon. Its taken me a full week to write this review because I was focusing every breath on my daughter. 8 - THIS and Gracie Square's hospital only goal is to not get sued over a suicide. They rather torture a patient then provide adequate compassionate care that would in itself prevent a suicide. 9 - If your loved one is suffering a psychiatric emergency, Call 988, or simply bring them into the emergency room but OPT FOR OUTPATIENT CARE. DO NOT LET THEM ADMIT THEM. The hospital experience felt like a 1900's asylum. Come on NYC. get your act together. This is a sad disgrace.

However, I am now receiving bills totaling over $900, which were never clearly explained to me in advance. The issue with my insurance also remains unresolved. After contacting my insurance, I was informed that there appear to be billing errors associated with these charges, which raises serious concerns about how my visit was processed. During that same visit, I waited for more than an hour without any clear communication. When I respectfully explained that I could not continue waiting, the interaction with the front desk felt dismissive, unprofessional, and lacking basic respect. As a Latino patient whose first language is not English, I felt discriminated against and unsupported during this experience. The overall situation made me uncomfortable and concerned about whether I was treated differently due to language or background. I submitted a formal complaint at the clinic on January 22 regarding this situation, and to date I have not received any response or follow-up. At this point, my main concerns are the lack of transparency in billing, the unresolved insurance issue, the reported billing errors, and the absence of any accountability after formally reporting what happened. Here is a photo of the complaint that was filed.

Appointments can only be booked 5 months out in advance because of the sheer demand. My teeth are well-cleaned, but the quality of care is not worth the sheer unprofessionalism of canceled appointments and being incorrectly billed hundreds of dollars with no easy way to remedy the billing. 3/5 stars for good care from the staff at the front desk and good care from the hygienists and dentists. 0/5 stars for everything else. Here's a list of complaints from two years of care: - Canceled my appointment 1 week before (even though I booked 5 months ago), they said because of the Christmas tree lighting, and almost refused to rebook me for another 3 months (had to argue to rebook me for the same week). - Billed me incorrectly out-of-network because they messed up their Tax Identification Number with insurance. - Billed me incorrectly at a non-student price despite me confirming with the front desk that I am a Columbia student. Took 5 months to correct. - Was on the phone multiple times with multiple different people to correct billing. Every time they keep telling me "it's an insurance issue" when it turned out it was their problem. - Billed me a year later for an appointment I already paid in full. If anyone in ColumbiaDoctors or Columbia University sees this, FIX YOUR ADMIN. FIX YOUR BILLING. This is unacceptable, shameful, and predatory. You should be ashamed for treating your own students like this!
