View of Nyhavn from the Inderhavns Bridge
    Doug L.

We walked the Nyhavn area twice during our stay in Copenhagen and enjoyed the beautiful views of the colorful buildings and docked boats. We walked the entire length of Nyhavn and then crossed the Inderhavns Bridge, for pedestrians and bicyclists only, for more views. Tuesday afternoon was the least crowded versus our first visit during the previous jam packed weekend. I retook a lot photos without too many extra heads showing up in the back ground. We skipped the shopping and dining options here. For those wanting to experience a canal cruise this was the spot to catch one but also don't come on a weekend. We walked by that line and it was ridiculously long.

From a gallery that sold very artistic pianos.

Nyhavn may be touristy, but so is the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, and all of Venice. But there is a reason why these places are touristy. They are all worth seeing. I was lucky in that we visited in early September, when I'm sure there is a fraction of the people that are there in June, July, and August. For us, it was quite enjoyable. We wound up spending half a day there, viewing the old houses along the canal, taking a canal tour, and eating dinner at one of the restaurants. We went to an Amber museum/shop and visited an art gallery, just off the main street. I do highly recommend taking one of the canal tour (we got our tour from Strommer for $28 USD per person) because it will give you a close-up look at many sites, including the Little Mermaid (saving you a separate trip), as well as the location of many museums. You'll get to see the modern and old architecture that lines the long harbor. It's easy to catch an English tour (but you should make reservations in advance) and this tour really well-exceeded our expectations. In addition, there are many very good restaurants along the canal in Nyhavn. We found two we went to on Yelp and they were great recommendations. While we were there, there was a fantastic public singer who played some of my favorite Cat Stevens songs, so that was a bonus.

I'm sure I represent the minority, but although a pretty sight, it was a smidge touristy and busy for me. We rode the bike that direction to check it out but ended up riding right on through. The crowds and tour lines (?) in the main area at 10am on a Tuesday were just a bit much for my liking. I did manage a quick pic from the bike away from the crowds though! It is definitely a lovely street and I can certainly see the draw, as I'm sure it's great for people watching and a meal too...but a drive-by might work fine too with so many beautiful sights to see in the city.

Such a fabulous tourtist spot and is the heart of Copenhagen. It's known for its colorful buildings wrapped around the beautiful canal. I absolutely loved the vibe in the day and night hours. So much to do for everyone. You can take a stroll at the canal watch people and small boats pass by. There are tons of restaurants, cafes, bars, ice cream shops on the canal and you can enjoy outdoor seating which makes the experience so so divine. It's definitely a culinarily delight. Make sure you sit down and enjoy the food especially the seafood. If you are looking for great photos in Copenhagen this is your spot. It's hard to find parking very close by but there are many paid garages not too far from the centre. It can get very crowded since it is the main tourist attraction there but the crowd keeps moving. I went there in the summers but I have heard from friends that the Christmas time here is breathtaking with tons of Christmas markets. Added information for yelpers wanting to plan a trip around that time. Overall loved the district if I may say so with family. Do wish to go back again soon.

The iconic Copenhagen tourist spot. We went during a rainy part of the day and therefore there were way less people around. When we passed by another day (sunny), it was packed. So brave the rain for better photo opportunities! All the restaurants looked cookie cutter and overpriced. Recommend coming for your photos and dine elsewhere more deserving.

Picture postcard area of the city. Brightly painted buildings line the street with restaurants and bars, overlooking the water. Mostly people are enjoying their beer, wine, or cocktail with perhaps a side of food. Even though it's crowded, this is definitely a must visit and see. I enjoyed taking a stroll from one end to the other. It is the local hang out area.

Very nice area with colorful building s on both side of the mini seaport with boats. Plenty of restaurants in the area. Very fun to walk. Watch out for the bikes! They will ring their bell. They have a 1.1 km to walk for shopping. Very similar to the Scotland Royal Mile of shopping. All the tourist souvenir stores are priced exactly the same. The small to big stores. Have fun.

Nyhavn encapsulates the charm of Copenhagen! The picturesque canal, lined with vibrantly colored buildings, creates a postcard-perfect scene that's impossible to resist. The waterfront atmosphere is lively, with a plethora of restaurants and cafes offering delectable Danish cuisine. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a foodie, or simply seeking a relaxing waterfront experience, Nyhavn has something for everyone. It's a must-visit destination that captures the essence of Copenhagen's beauty and hospitality. I recommend a boat tour that offers a unique perspective on Copenhagen's enchanting landscape. The knowledgeable and friendly guides shared fascinating stories about the historic sites along the canal, adding a rich layer to the experience. I also got to enjoy the Christmas market which is one of the few in Copenhagen. It begins mid November.

Nyhavn, København, dates back to the 17th century. Hans Christian Andersen lived on this row for many years.

"Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale." - Hans Christian Andersen Nyhavn district was a highlight on my visit to København, Denmark. The picturesque architecture dates back to the 17th century. Once the seedier part of town with drunken sailors and prostitutes at every street corner. Artists, writers, including Hans Christian Andersen, called it home for many years. Today it's a trendy spot for tourists to take that perfect shot with a myriad of colors as it's backdrop. Danes still love it here, meeting up for a beer or three, even though it's now the pricier part of town. I strolled over, after a photo shoot, a Scandinavian mile away. I took my time as I soaked in the culture and the stories of histories past. A dozen statues of prominent Danes and Viking Gods later... I saw her from a distance. As I got closer she was more beautiful in person! Nyhavn district and all her glory! In the end, I dedicate this review to my long lost love. A beautiful Danish woman who brought a light to my life. She's no longer a part of my life, however she will never be forgotten. And like most fairytales sometimes "The End" is truly The End. A must visit if in København!

Known as "New Harbor" in English, this waterfront located along a canal is the number one place to visit in all of Copenhagen. This canal and port was built over 300 years ago as a place for ships to drop off cargo, but has become a bustling center of tourist activity. It is lined with loads of bars, cafes, and restaurants. Though the majority of the places seemed to offer Danish cuisine, I also saw others like French, Japanese, and Italian. Even if you are not looking for a place to eat and drink, Nyhavn is worth it just for its architectural beauty. The houses that line this waterfront are super colorful and vibrant. There are also old wooden ships along the water that have been preserved and left on display to maintain the classical feel of the canal. Nyhavn is definitely a sight that should not be missed.

    Helen H.

Every tourist will make their way here. The first time we stopped by in the afternoon, it was crowded. Since our hotel was nearby, we decided to come back again in the morning- much better. The brightly coloured buildings are attractive and eye catching. The canal also harbours many historical wooden ships. I found out after the fact that Hans Christian Andersen lived in several of the houses here.

It's beautiful! It's peaceful with good restaurants next to each other. It's just a place you can hang out and relax with your friends or just by yourself

    Petra P.

It's one of THE spots for tourists in Copenhagen. You have seen the colourful houses on every postcard. The atmosphere is buzzy, the streets are lined with restaurants and cafés on one side, musicians are playing and if the sun is shining, it is hard to find a place to sit. With all the boats and houses, it is the perfect spot for taking pictures. The tourist boats are starting from here.

With its distinctive spiral ramp, the Round Tower has become a Danish landmark. Here are some notable facts and points of interest: 1.The Hollow Core: the shape of the tower was Denmark's geographical zero point. 2. There is an Observatory which houses a telescope built in 1929. 3. The Library Hall is used for changing exhibits, cultural events and concerts 4. The Spiral Ramp will get you to 10,000 steps easily; it is the only way to the top of the tower and spins 7 1/2 times around the Tower's hollow core. Believe me, you feel those twists as you climb. 5. The Bell Loft is situated above the Library Hall and two floors above the Trinity Church where the bells have rung for hundreds of years. 6. The Platform: once you climb the narrow stairs you are atop and can see all of Copenhagen's charms and Sweden. During the summer there is a kiosk that sells sweet treats 7. They also close the climb up if there's rain or is excessively windy for safety reasons. I took my friend and my two kids, ages 4 and 8. They did not want to go. I gave them a choice to stay at the front desk and they ended up making it up, since they didn't want to be left behind. You can store your larger bags (like backpacks) by the front desk at your own discretion. You should. It gets a bit cramped. I kept my purse on me though. As opposed to the Ruundetarn, there are a lot of steps. Roughly 400 up and another 400 down. It's not terrible but the closer you are to the top, it can get narrow and cramped. If you're tall, watch your head. It also gets to the point that groups going in one direction need to stop to let the ones coming down go just so you have room to go up. The last set of stairs to get outside is more like a ladder and you really feel it when you're getting ready to get back inside the church and you look down to see how steep and narrow those steps are. It is a beautiful view though! Your heart is pumping from the climb up, the wind hampers your breathing a bit... I heard a number of people breathing quite hard - but you're there! You go up further until you can go no more. When I went, there was a lady who was seemingly stuck at the very top and didn't budge from it, but no matter. (She spoke to us... just didn't let go.) Both of my kids made it up too despite their reservations. It took time to get them moving at first but they did it! My eldest got down without issues but going down those ladder steps, I just held my 4 year old in one arm and took us both down 2 flights before I let him down. But yes, younger kids can do it! (They got ice cream afterwards.) If you have a fear of heights or claustrophobia.... You can definitely turn around if you really can't do it. I couldn't stare down at the ground for long while at the very top (it is a bit high) but I didn't feel unsafe while up there. That was definitely an experience to remember! A bit of a thrill at the very end, haha.

So in that sense, yes, there's a local gem-vibe going. However, when I've walked down it (and living near-by with small child means you take plenty of walks down every street in your 'hood), I've often had this sort "OK, that's that, then" feeling when I've walked the length of the street. A sort of underwhelmed feeling, really. Couple that with a couple of times when the local residents have been, let's say, unwelcoming, and the place has just lost some of its charm for me.
