Instead, we have experienced multiple amended returns across several tax years, repeated discrepancies between the figures submitted and those determined by the IRS and New York State, and a continual stream of notices demanding additional payments. The financial impact has been significant, but the ongoing stress has been even worse. Every time we believed a tax year had finally been resolved, another notice arrived with different figures and further amounts to pay. It has been extremely difficult to have confidence that our returns were prepared correctly. Mistakes can happen, but what matters is resolving them quickly and giving clients certainty. Unfortunately, that has not been our experience. After more than two years, we are still trying to establish what our correct tax liabilities actually are. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this firm. First, the mundane stuff, that shows a lack of professionalism: Forgot about my returns. Multiple times. Didn't return multiple phone calls and emails. Charged me an astronomical fee. We negotiated slightly lower than the original fee, and then when it came time to pay, he tried to charge me more. It took two months to complete relatively easy returns. Every time I called I was treated as a nuance. One of the final times I called I was asked to give him a couple days, after a week with no contact I gave him a call. This seemed to anger him. Then, the issues that show a lack of knowledge, and general incompetency: Missed my education deduction despite me telling him twice. Didn't deduct my home office despite knowing that I work from home. Improperly reported that I had MassHealth insurance full year, which I wouldn't even qualify for, and when I only lived in the state half the year Initially informed me that I owed thousands of dollars over a Roth disbursement of contributions because he didn't know this was tax free, which I told him it was before we even started, and then had to direct him to the IRS publications. Got me audited in record breaking time. It only took a couple days from submission.
