I called around, even turning down Gusto payroll. When they offered an Amazon gift card. The lady at Genie seemed nice and just gave me a cheaper price, not mentioning any hidden fees. So they take the money for fees out of your bank account. They gave me a username and password that never worked , and I kept asking the only lady at the office. How to log in. I never got to see the breakdown. My pt. Employee only worked for one week and quit. So I told them, that my employee quit. It looked like extra fees were being taken out of my account but I couldn't log in. The lady kept saying she reset my password, but it never worked. I hired another pt. Employee and she quit after 3 days. Genie was taking money out of my acct. which I finally said, I want a break down. She said she was taking a processing fee. I said we never agreed on a processing fee, you never mentioned it. I called Gusto and they said there was no processing fee with them. So I said to the lady at Genie that wasn't fair. She said I'm going to refund the fees and you do it yourself. I said ok, not even knowing what was going on. She just told me the agencies I needed to contact. I said I am cancelling your services on the phone and in email. She then sends me a bill for $40. I said ,I'm doing it myself and still have to pay $40? I really was not happy with their services but thought this would be the final bill. I wrote a letter cancelling as with the $40 check. For some reason, it was returned in the mail, 3 months later because the store was closed becuz of covid. The postman just returned it with 3 bills from Genie. It went from $40 to $215 and than $260. They put the processing fee back in for $150 and tacked on a bunch of late fees. They pretend to be nice and helpful, but were really taking advantage of inexperienced payroll customers!

McSwain & Company had a fairly good star rating, so I decided to meet with one of their CPA's. My initial meeting with David was at most 10 minutes. Granted he did ask me to provide all documentation for our initial meeting and I had forgot 1 or 2 pieces of documentation needed to file my tax return, so I can see how maybe he could have been a bit frustrated. I proceeded to tell him that I would like to be a new client, and would need help seeking future advice for life insurance etc in the future. While he may have been great at getting all my documentation filed for my taxes this year, he is not a very friendly CPA. I was told that my taxes had been filed, and that I needed to sign forms and make my payment even though I had already made my payment of $250, and returned the signed forms as requested. While on the phone with him, he said that I could come and pick up my return anytime. The following day my wife drives up to their office to pick up our return and was greeted with a very unfriendly secretary (I also had the same experience on my first/second day I had visited as well), being told that there is no check available for us. David should work on his people skills. He told me that I misunderstood vs telling me that he could have been unclear with his statements. Instead of taking the responsibility he pushed the blame on me. This years tax returns are done, and next year McSwain & Company will NOT receive my business. Thanks for opening your doors to a new Client, but unfortunately your representatives people skills (soft skills) are not where they need to be. This was the worst experience I have had yet in my 30 years of filing taxes. While it may have been quick, it was not worth the blame I received.
