Akasha Yoga - Group warrior 3 in East studio

    Akasha Yoga

I have been a member at Akasha Yoga for about three months now. I have attended maybe 50 classes…read morethere. I have been to two other Yoga schools and have nothing bad to say about any of them. However, Akasha is the best. The classes are a great stress relief and awesome exercise. The instructors are all very willing to help people new to Yoga, like myself. If this is the last Yoga place that I attend, I will be happy. Aside from relocating, I see no need to go anywhere else. My only complaint is that the store next door (Reclaimed...a artsy used furniture store) blasts their music and hammers on things, so it is difficult to totally relax during meditation when the furniture store is open (fortunately only) on weekends. Akasha also does other fun events to raise money for community projects and causes... drum circles, movie nights, Zumba and Tai Chi. It is a righteous place.

While I had always been interested in trying a yoga class and had enjoyed doing yoga occasionally…read moreat home with a video, I'd always been a little intimidated by fears I'd make a fool out of myself in front of a bunch of experienced yogis. But a friend of mine who belongs to Akasha bugged me to give it a try and offered to take me and my partner as guests on her membership. After the first class, we were hooked. My partner and I went back the very next day and signed up for monthly memberships and began going to classes several times a week. That was last Fall. There are several reasons I love Akasha Yoga. Aside from the warm and peaceful atmosphere, the instructors are all wonderful. Jennifer (the owner) is a fantastic instructor, has great energy, and a great sense of humor. In the months I was a member, I had the opportunity to take classes with all of the instructors at some point, and they are all fantastic in different ways, but they all strive to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome whether you are a complete beginner (like I was) or an experienced yogi. Akasha does a community class once a month on Saturdays that is free to all. Additionally, they raise money for various community causes each month and have different events and special classes planned throughout each month that add to the sense of community at Akasha. My partner and I recently had to move out of the area, and while Crystal Lake is a great suburb that we will miss, what makes us most sad about the move is that we can no longer take classes at Akasha. I would highly recommend this place for anyone interested in giving yoga a try, or for any yoga pros looking for a great place to practice.

My daughter (2) and I love SFY! We started in the Tots class and we learned so many fun songs and…read morerhymes, as well as yoga stretches. I loved that Dana included moves and explanations to help with common health topics like lung development and gas. Dana's knowledge and background in early childhood education is invaluable and she finds a way to connect with every child. Her dedication and love for kid's yoga goes beyond the weekly class and she even does fun videos my daughter loves to do at home. I recently joined the Mom's yoga class on Tuesdays taught by one of Dana's trained teachers. Laura was very kind, knowledgeable and easy to follow. The class was challenging, but as a beginner, I had no problem following along and felt very comfortable, thanks to her guidance. I left feeling more relaxed and ready to take on the rest of the week. We have also had a few private events hosted by SFY and they were all so fun and well planned. We definitely recommend for birthday parties (children and adults) and play dates. Overall, I highly recommend SFY. You wouldn't find a better kids yoga practice around! It is the highlight of our week.

Dana made it fun and really does a great job connecting with the kids. Today was the first day of school and new situations or change can make my 7 year old anxious. Camp gave my daughter some tools to use beforehand. It really set the precedence for the day and I'm seeing a powerful positive impact on her. We've also used the relaxation techniques at bedtime and helped her busy brain to rest. Overall since she's been coming to yoga classes at sweet feet I've noticed more contentment and serenity. She is looking forward to continuing on with more classes here in September! Thanks Dana and Sweet Feet Yoga!
