Located inside La Casa Rodavento hotel, the restaurant and its courtyard are beautiful. Sadly, we were only one of two tables on a Saturday night during the 2+ hours we were there, which was somewhat of a surprise considering we saw a billboard advertising the restaurant upon entering Valle de Bravo. And while this place is fancy and probably unaffordable for most locals, there is no shortage of rich Mexicans who travel to the Valle in the summertime to escape the hustle and bustle of Mexico City.
For appetizers, we ordered the shrimp tacos (hand made tortillas, sauteed shrimp, burnt chili salsa and pickled red onion) and the ceviche. For mains, knowing the portions would be small, we split the rib eye with chimichurri, the catch of the day and the pork tenderloin (caña de puerco).
Considering we were the only show in town, they staggered the dishes way too quickly. Instead of bringing out just the tacos and the ceviche first, they brought it with the pork tenderloin even though the pork tenderloin was a main dish. Then they brought out the fish and ribeye together. It's almost as if they were rushing us out so they could go home. This was confirmed when they cut the music and some of the lights as we were finishing dessert. Rude.
Speaking of dessert, the mandarin cheesecake was just weird. More of a gelatin than a cheesecake and way too mandarin.
Among all the dishes we ordered, the pork stood out way ahead of the others, even though I wanted to slap the chef for preparing it sous-vide for hours. Miraculously, it was not nearly as dry as I was expecting.
Overall, the only reasons this place is getting three stars is because the food was good, the server was friendly and the ambiance was on point. read more
