I have used nucabs for years. They are consistently reliable; never late. If anything, they come 2 minutes or 5 minutes early. They usually beep or wait outside, rarely come politely to the door, never give a courtesy call on arrival. But I think this is pretty standard.
They are good value as well, £3 from Queensway to Wellingborough town centre, £4.10 to the station. Prices don't seem to have changed over the years. Other companies charge about the same I think, but I like them the best.
I also used them for airport runs, e.g. £85 to Heathrow with 4 of us in a larget vehicle with a lot of luggage.
One slight annoyance is that when I say taxi to 15 such and such road at 9.30am tomorrow they just say that's booked for you. I think they should repeat it back for confirmation and avoid mishearing. However, to be fair, they have never got in wrong. I guess they do it because they only have one person working there and don't want to keep the phone occupied (guessing) but they are certainly not chatty.
You can call them and say taxi in 5-10 minutes please and they consistently deliver, so there is no need to book. I think I tried this once and there was a long wait because it was school run time, so you would need to book in advance for that maybe.
All the taxi companies in Wellingborough drive very slightly too fast (not above the speed limit, but quick accelerations and turns) to try and squeeze as many fares into the day as possible. I assume the drivers are not on a fixed wage by the way the drive, but I am just guessing. It's not a major issue. They are mostly about the same. Nucabs is not the worst.
They have a lot of drivers working for them, but not many are exactly chatty, but I never had a bad one.
They appreciate a £1 tip (e.g. keep the change of a £4.10 fare), but I don't get the sense it's expected at all.
I had a friend who used them and didn't like them and wouldn't use them again, but I have used them many, many times and never had a problem. read more
