Short Review(9/2026): Economical, timely, non-pressure, quality materials. 17k for ~40…read moresquare(2250 sq foot home) included all permits, dumpsters, two layer removal, 50 year manufacturer/workmanship warranty, amazing post installation cleanup and small tip for workers. Longer Review: We've only owned three homes in our life and they have all been newer properties. Recently we moved into a new home in Macomb, MI that was built in 1983. It had two layers of existing roofing on it and I noticed some low spots. We did not have any leaking, just external visible deformities so decided to go on the path of getting the roof replaced. We did the three quote thing with some well known companies in the industry, Next Exteriors(21k), iSwitch(31k) and L&S Home Improvements(31k). We had good experiences with the quote process for all three, not pushy salesman, just good people wanting to make sure we were taken care of. The problem was we wanted to get three projects done, roof, windows and siding/gutters and all of the quotes were making it impossible for us to complete everything with our budget. I found Cavendish Construction on a facebook post in one of our local township facebook groups. That led me to look up reviews and I found only one on Kelp so was a little apprehensive but decided to give him a call. Hugh Cavendish asked a few basic questions about my home over text and provided me with an instance price quote. I have a somewhat larger home(2250sq feet) so was looking at about 40 squares. His quote came out to half of what some of the others were wanting. The next closed quote was about 6k higher. He quoted me 16k for CertainTeed Pro asphalt shingles and all the materials to do it including the tear off of two existing layers. Hugh still took the time to come to our home and detail out his work and workmanship warranties. He was not pressuring us on the sale stating he had plenty of work to do if we chose to go with another vendor. His honest and caring demeanor in that short couple hours pushed us to go with him. Install day was set for a Sunday about a week from when we said we would chose his services. The Friday before he had our materials delivered, keep in mind that for transparency he has the home owner just pay the roofing material on day of delivery. You can setup digital payment options ahead of time with the vendor(Spartan Roofing) or give them a check/cash on delivery day. It took about an hour to delivery/unload all of the materials in an organized manner and safe storage locations of your choosing. The installation crew showed up about 7:30am on Sunday and immediately starting old shingle removal. First phase was tarping everything around the house and putting large boards over a few bigger windows to protect all your property. They immediately got to tearing off the old material, probably took two hours. Then they replaced any damaged/rotting plywood which ended up being ten pieces(Hugh charged us $50 a sheet which was pretty standard from the other quotes I received). After tear off and roof cleanup they did their thing for the next four hours and got the roof installed. They then did the cleanup phase which was amazing compared to what things looked like while they were working, any resemblance that they were here were gone. I left some stuff around the perimeter of the house that they graciously moved and covered as well as a bunch of tomato plants that they preserved. Paid Hugh at the end by check and gave the worker's a small tip for doing such a great job. I'm so glad I went with the local roofing business and Cavendish Construction. Also, I will receive no financial benefit for this review. I think it's important for all size budgets to be able to complete this type of work to ensure they live in a safe and secure home. It's also important to support the smaller businesses that don't necessarily need all the marketing materials to gain business's.

TOP NOTCH, QUALITY WORK!…read more Frank VandePutte and Shaun Chesnutt comprise the same team that we have used twice to install wood floors in our house. We had just 3 rooms done the first time in the Swedish Glitsa formula, and we loved the way they looked. When we decided, now 18 years later, to have the rest of our floors done with white oak, too, Sherrie (Frank's wife and project organizer) told us about Rubio Monocoat, a finish that is not only kind to the environment, but also very repairable. She encouraged us to opt for that finish this time instead of the Glitsa which cannot be "spot doctored" as Rubio can. We knew from experience that Frank and Shaun would do a quality job, so we did a firsthand check of a floor they had done to be sure we liked the matte Rubio look. We liked the bourbon stain, which brought out the rich natural grain of the oak, and we thought the matte finish with a final satin coat for subtle sheen looked much richer than the artificial plastic poly coats that many people installed in past decades. We signed the contract for this updated kind of wood finish, and the team's work began. Frank and Shaun were ALWAYS on time, and they worked industriously throughout their workday. They are amazing! They cleaned up each day like no other workers we had ever seen--almost fanatical neatness! They were friendly--real gentlemen--no offensive language at all. They patiently explained procedures and answered our many questions. We literally thank the Lord for directing us to skilled wood experts like these two men. They don't resort to mediocre, quickie methods, and their work reflects that attitude--QUALITY with a capital Q! It's such a joy to have floors that are easy-care--so much better than our old carpeting. We highly recommend this company!

Horrible service. I have not an experience this bad in years…read more I called and made an appointment. When making the appointment, I was explicit/clear on the repair that I needed. I made sure that he understood the issue and could do that repair. He arrived 1 hour 20 minutes late; after not calling or texting that he was running late. When I would not agree to have the larger service/repairs he wanted to do, he through a tantrum like a bratty 8 year old and left. He never listened to what the problem was to the door. The most frustrating part, was there is a sticker on the garage door the explains the service needed to reset the operation of the door.
