i bought two stick insects from here and the way everything was handled was disgusting. the worker put them in a plastic bag! i asked him how long they could stay in there for as im not local and live 50 mins away and he said about an hour. when putting them in said bag he was shaking them up and down. the journey home was so stressful, they were fighting and i googled why and it said it was due to stress and such little space. i am appalled. luckily they survived but thank god there was a train right there at the station about to leave or they would have died [PS: i had to bite some air holes into the bag as there was none] i am raging!!!! read more

Nu Pets - stick insects in bag with no air holes - Pet Stores Near Me - Carlisle, CMA

I have bought numerous items including tropical fish, pet food various, a baby Quaker Parrot that was so tame it was unreal, the staff are generally quite helpful and knowledgeable sometimes need a nudge, the owner Ricky is passionate about what he does and has a broad knowledge of numerous animals etc and is always prepared to go the extra mile, I will continue to shop there even though the prices are a little high, we need to support not condemn these places and remember they have overheads and also have to put up with a lot of rubbish from us (joe public) and most of all you have a base to return to if you have problems not some faceless person on the end of the phons based in another country that can't even understand you read more

I've been shopping here over the last few years. I find the prices can be a bit expensive on certain items compared to the newer pet store that opened in town but I still frequent Nu Pets when I'm in the city centre. I was in today to find out that they've expanded the back of the store now to keep more pets. They have fish, birds, ferrets, kittens and reptiles. read more

I always come here for petsupplies such as toys and treats. The prices are little on the expensive side but the staff are always very helpful. It's nice to visit to have a look at the animals they are selling and they have started to sell pets on the more exotic side such as lizards and tortoises. read more

I used to be a regular customer in NuPets. It was conveinient when in town on a lunch hour, even if a little pricey. However after the service I received last year, after purchasing a guinea pig from them, I have not returned. The staff claimed to be knowledgeable, yet clearly weren't after selling me a pregnant guinea pig, complete with a number of illnesses and when I went back to complain, they were not interested. This also isn't the only time I have had problems after purchasing a pet from them. The staff are more concerned with having conversations amongst themseleves than helping anyone with any problems, and seem to guess any of their responses. I will not be returning. read more

It is with great sadness that I see that this shop has been granted permission to sell pups.Dogs are not a commodity to buy on a shopping trip A good deal of thought and preparation should be had before contemplating such a purchase and pups should be purchased from reputable breeders who have not onlly the pups welfare in mind but also and most importantlly the welfare of the parent dogs. How many times especially now it is coming up to Christmas- the optimum time of the year to abandon your dog- and with the ongoing recession; do we listen about the increasing numbers of dogs taken in by rescue centres Dogs that have been ill-treated, starved and abandoned because their owners are ignorant of their needs and who made their purchase on a whim. Cuddly pups can quickly grow into demanding dogs that their owners find hard to cope with Guess what happens then? If yoiu buy a puppy from this shop do you know its history How big will it grow How much will it cost you for the neext 11, 12 , 13 ,14 years of its life What will you do if it barks and the neighbours complain Do you understand dog behaviour How will you housetrain the pup Where are the parent dogs and who are the breeders How many litters has that bitch had in a year and what happens when she can no longer breed and earn her owners some money Do you know what a puppy farm is These are just some of the questions you need to ask yourself before you buy a puppy from a high street shop It is no point in reading in the papers about when things go badly wrong with dogs It is up to YOU to make the right decision for yourself and for our cannine friends read more

I get loads of birds from there just because I feel sorry for them. I am an experienced bird keeper and know when birds are not being looked after. We brought a pair of lovebirds and the female had no toes at all and when I said that to them they changed the subject. 2 days later it died I sent it to the vets and they said it had an infection that was catched before we had it. We also brought a red rump and it was fluffed up in its cage it recovered and now is better and we are looking for a female red rump so if you have one for sale please email me at amy.ks@hotmail.co.uk We brought a zebra finch from there that was all fluffed up and now it has completely recovered and ready to rehome it. It is £10 and it is a black cheeked zebra finch and experienced zebra finch breeders say its a female. If interested in rehoming it please email me at amy.ks@hotmail.co.uk. They also sell dogs and if you ask them if you can see there mum and dad they say they died. The guinea pigs just have straw I own guinea pigs and I know that guinea pigs should have hay and also there guinea pigs look younger than 8 weeks old., There rabbits are kept in hutches were they can hardly do 3 hops and they looked really depressed and I should know because I have had a rabbits before. There hamster are kept in tiny glass tanks and have nothing to do the only thing they have in there is a food bowl, water bowl and sometimes a wooden bridge. They have no wheel and as baby hamsters they need to get some excise. I used breed hamsters and I think its disgusting that they have hardly any wood shavings. There fish there is always at least 3 dead fish in there fish tanks and if you tell them they just ignore you. We also brought some peach faced lovebirds and they were scared stiff of people. I do not like this pet shop at all I don't think they know what they are doing. read more
