I seriously received the best service!!…read more Our water line from the floor to the toilet tank was bollaxed up by my "handyman" father 19 years ago. I needed to add a device to the toilet. Dad had "fixed" the connection and it was frozen in place to the point I wasn't strong enough to get the nut off. I had a water leak at the floor level I couldn't stop. I had to turn the water off at the curb. It was late Friday and I was at my wits end! I sent my request to him and he got back to me within 10-15 minutes! Wow, on the mainland I was used to waiting DAYS! He asked if I could take a picture of the problem so he could pick up the right replacement parts. Within 30 minutes I had an appointment for Saturday morning! My hometown has a description for that kind of thing, "Boy Howdy!" Ken met me early the next day, a Saturday mind you, and before noon he had replaced the water line, the parts inside the toilet, and even connected my device for me! I highly recommend Dakine Handyman for any repairs you need!! Boy Howdy!!!!

Honsador lumber routinely delivered the wrong building material to my construction site. Honsador…read moredelivered the wrong glue lams and did not have any additional stock on island so we were forced to purchase glue lams from HPM (thank goodness for HPM). Then Honsador delivered the wrong number of Simpson straps, again we went to HPM. Then Honsador delivered the wrong siding material (at least this time Honsador made the exchange). Finally, Honsador delivered the wrong truss package. We had ordered trusses for a completely vaulted ceiling but the trusses that were delivered only had vaulted ceiling for the living room and kitchen (NOT the bedroom and bathroom). Not only did the deliver the wrong truss package, they delivered it 7 weeks late. Unfortunately my builder installed the trusses without fully inspecting them (relying on Honsador to deliver the right material). What a mistake. The builder sheeted the roof before realizing that the trusses were wrong. Instead of making him take the entire roof off, I negotiated a reasonable compensation packagel (extra work if i paid for the materials). We went back to Honsador to seek restitution but they refused to accept any responsibility for the problem. The entire truss package was $12000 and we were asking for a 50% store credit which they refused. They refused to compensate us in any way. I would never recommend Honsador to any of my friends or colleagues. Subsequently I've learned that Honsador has a long history of problems with delivering trusses on time and in spec. I wouldnt trust them. If you do use them then I recommend you check every delivery, inventory the material, and learn to deal with delays.

The very first thing that stood out about Luis was his timely response. So many contractors never even contact you back, or if they do, they take days or weeks. Luis is not like the others. He responded quickly to my initial contact, and quickly with a quote once he came and did his survey. Luis also has excellent communication skills. Throughout the process Luis always communicated well. If traffic was heavy, he let me know he was running late BEFORE his expected arrival time. He kept me in the loop on the shipment of the shutters, the installation schedule, and all other aspects of the job. He never left me wondering what was happening or when. Every day before he left, he did a quick summary of what would happen next. It was totally different than most other contractors I've had here. I never felt forgotten. Beyond being professional in his communication, Luis is very polite, courteous, and personable. Luis was punctual and timely. He never missed a day because he was off surfing or just didn't feel like working. He showed up every day he said he would, and worked with me on days I couldn't be home, or where he had some other commitment. For anyone who's been here a while, you know how hard it can be to even get someone to show up. It was refreshing and appreciated not to have that experience with Soltren Construction. Once on site, Luis set up his equipment and got to work. Having spent years in the construction trade and two decades in the military, I can tell you the Luis knows his business. His work was meticulously thought out and performed. Most tradesmen I feel the need to watch closely so they don't cut corners and/or do shoddy work. After watching Luis do the first two windows, I felt perfectly comfortable moving on and doing my own projects while he worked. He did the work with the care and attention I imagine he uses on his own house, particularly with little details that are often overlooked. I really appreciated that. Perhaps one of the best things for me was that Luis was very neat and clean in his work and work space. He cleaned up his work area every single day, never leaving a mess or piles of sawdust. He hauled away his own garbage every day. When he needed to work in the house he always carefully covered surrounding areas with plastic, and always left things as neat and clean as he found them. (Sometimes more so!) Again, he treated our house like it was his own with the level of care he showed. In short, I couldn't be happier with the experience, with the shutters, or Soltren Construction. Luis Soltren is a consummate professional and I'd happily hire him again.
