I went to see Martha at Classical Acupuncture with the hopes of helping with the pain and armed with wanting to remove my prescription pain medications. I was the type who ate right, never took medication, and in the past year I've been reduced and humbled by my diseases with having to reassess and take prescription medications in order to not only survive, but to live a life without trips to the emergency room every month. I've even resorted to pain medication(s) that are necessary (prescription). So coming to Martha, I was in a lot of pain as well as under huge amounts of stress and anxiety (which will happen when you're waking up and living day and night with a level of 8-10 to off ff the charts (epic when I feel like I'm above a 10) on a pain scale at all times, even with prescription medication, coupled with throwing up among having flares from one of my conditions which is Acute Chronic Crohn's disease and so on). So far I've had two treatments and the first thing I've noticed is that Martha listens and has helpsful solutions. She has reduced my anxiety and stress levels by at least 50-70 percent and that's in 2 visits. It's like a weight was dropped off of me. There are other levels of pain (from cramping,deep full ache, and then stinging from various parts of my conditions including strictures and ulcers, etc) and are still there but reduced by 15 percent. But that's in two visits when nothing has worked. I'll take any help I can get and that is so significant that it knocks me into the 7-10 and sometimes 6-10 on the charts. Any number change like that is worth a standing ovation when you've been in such disabling chronic pain. I know it can only get better with time and as my conditions are complex, it may take so to get there. I'm fully confident that I will recover much with her help. She not only listens, but seems to adjust her treatments to my needs at the time and I really appreciate it as I have complex needs. She is talented and blessed. I am grateful to have found her. I have a feeling about her and I have remained what I call "cautiously optimistic" for years because people have told me that they could do XYZ for me and I've been everywhere including the mayo clinic but am such a complex case that people throw up their hands in despair. after realizing they haven't helped much. After receiving an amazing facial from a holistic aesthetician while visiting a friend, I started my search for someone who could perform facial gua sha/acupuncture vs use strong chemicals on my skin. Don't get me wrong, I love a good clinical facial but "green beauty" has become popularized thanks to social media and the less chemicals I can put on my skin the better! After looking for what felt like forever, I ran across this nondescript website for Dr. Wu and her authentic Chinese acupuncture clinic with "Cosmetic Acupuncture" as a service. I called immediately and was able to make an appointment within 2 weeks. My appointment was blissful. Dr. Wu (who is a Licensed and Board Certified Acupuncturist by NCCAO) asked me what my concerns were with my skin, took my pulse, checked my tongue and had me lie on a massage table after changing into a robe. She cleansed my face and then proceed to place needles on my extremities and then a cluster of them on all the "problem areas". After placement she handed me a bell, turned on music and said she would be back in 30mins. Pretty sure I fell asleep because she was back in a blink to removed the needles. After cleaning my skin again she then began the facial portion which included a light cleanse, deep cleanse, extractions, customized herb mask for my skin needs with arm/neck/scalp massage, custom serum, followed by lots of face massaging with a gua sha tool and jade roller. It was heaven. I think the appointment lasted 2 hours in total and I was jello. After the appointment she gave me a hand written prescription sheet on my skin needs that told me to eat more fruit, increase my water, utilize ginger caps for stomach issues and if I needed any products she could make the mask/show me which she used for purchase. She also gave me follow up recommendations for facial acupuncture alone. There is absolutely no pressure to purchase anything and if you have any kind of reaction to the products she will bring you in for free acupuncture to help it heal quicker. Dr. Wu was thorough, informative and kind. She described what she was going to do prior to doing it and the rationale behind it. She mentioned that she does this especially with first time clients but then again if she changes anything in the routine on subsequent visits. She also performs traditional acupuncture. I wish I would have taken a photo of my lines before and after because they were greatly diminished and I had soo many compliments on my skins glow. This is not botox, it doesn't paralyze movement and wont last 3 months, but is safer alternative that can help promote collagen production over a series of visits. I'm definitely a fan!
