After much procrastination, I decided to give in to both vanity and oral health and search around for a dentist. Such a search, as you likely know, is frustrating. Often, people will remark a dentist is good based on the experience at the routine exam or dental cleaning. I'd wager even a sadistic hack could perform a good dental cleaning, so such recommendations were irrelevant to me. More to the point, I didn't want to be pressured to embark on a dental tourist expedition. Being tempted with the thought of half-priced crowns, root-canals, and the like. No, I wanted to stay where my medical malpractice hammer is most effective. Phoenix Dental is a very clean and friendly establishment. The equipment appears to be quite modern. There's no dried blood on the walls or the ceiling and the staff are quite pleasant. I've visited this establishment four times in the past five weeks. While the procedure I'm embarking upon is mildly painful, it's tolerable to do two procedures per week. My first session was nice. The x-rays and examination was free. We went over a plan on what I wanted done and what was needed to be done. It was affordable and spread out throughout the year, so the economic bite does not hurt as bad. They put glasses on your face so bits of bone, chemical, and blood don't fly into your eyes, which are aimed at the ceiling where there's a flat screen television tuned in to music videos. The price of the procedures is fairly standard for Ireland. Not the cheapest, but definitely not the most dear. More importantly, the quality seems to be sound. A dentist in the west recommended the doctor here, as did a city centre surgeon who would of seen previous work from the doctors at this clinic. You can't get much better a referral than that!

Richard (Dentist) is a gentlemen, takes his time and explains everything well and most importantly made light work in the tooth extraction. He is one of the best, if not the best dentist I ever visited. Explains well, made a crystal clear treatment plan. Maybe not the cheapest (clear pricelist on their site) , but definitely worth it for the quality and expertise they provide.

As a long term sufferer of TMJ, I am well used to encountering dentists that fail to understand the complexities of this condition mainly due to the fact that it is a grey area between the medical and the dental professions. Not so with Dr. Barry, not only does he have a working knowledge of TMJ, he also has a sympathetic ear and I found him to be very thorough. After being correctly provided with a pan-oral x ray, Dr. Barry did his utmost to get to the root of the problem (no pun intended) and after a detailed explanation of the images, it was found that the pain was most probably a result of my TMJ. I have since recommended friends and clients to Docklands Dental and all have agreed that they do indeed offer the 'Next Generation Care' they endorse.

When I called to make my the appointment I was informed I couldn't see the hygienist until I saw the main Dentist as this is common practice for a new patient. I waited two weeks for an appointment which wasn't too bad. The office is located about 5 minutes from the top of Camden street and inside an old Georgian house. The reception is located on the bottom floor and I was greeted by two very friendly receptionist. Filled out a quick form and was right on time to meet with Dr. Ed. Being honest I was actually taken aback by Dr. Ed's friendliness. You can tell that his patients are very important to him and he took genuine interest in myself. He was quick and precise but at no point did I feel rushed. I definitely felt he knew what he was talking about. I was then moved along to the Hygienist who again I felt very comfortable with. I would highly recommend.

Everything was explained and all the options were given..a pre-bill so I knew how much everything would cost over the next month...4/5 visits! I was disappointed with one thing; I had a filling and it was to cost E120. I went tot the front desk to pay I was charged more, nearly E30 more. I questioned it and was told the filling was deeper than originally expected so it cost more... communication PLEASE...never knew this until I was being charged...my pre-bill quote flew out the window :(

You should try and book as early as possible though as the appointments seem to get snapped up pretty quickly (it is possible to book a same day appointment if you call as soon as they open) The surgery is fresh and modern in decor, perhaps more importantly it is also very clean. As well as medical services, they also have a dentist office located on site, their website is very simple to use and contains a lot of info listing what they offer and prices etc. I guess the only reason i marked this a 3 star was because i felt a bit disappointed (and perhaps this is more in relation to the general medical system in Ireland rather than this specific surgery) but when I returned approximately 2-3 weeks after my initial visit with the same complaint which hadn't cleared up... i had to pay full price again for the second visit.... Perhaps it was my own fault for leaving it so long after the first visit.... It was an expensive lesson to learn especially when you had the cost of prescriptions on top

I was taking the bus from the Waterloo Road and I saw Smiles Dental, I book an appointment for the check-up. I am trying to do check-ups every year. In Smiles Dental it was free with PPS number. The doctor said that I need to do 3 FILINGS. Ohh noooo! I made an appointment for my first one! It was the funny one :) I was waiting when I will feel pain but it was okay, and then I heard - 'It's done!' REALLY??? I couldn't believe, It was painless. Next time I will be less afraid doing my other 2 :) Just letting you know the next day I was laying down with the madest a headache and a toothache. Instead of concentrating on the job at hand I'm trying to remember the words to that poem from my youth "oh I wish I'd looked after my teeth..." My entire head felt like a huge spot about to burst and the tip.... the white bit that does the nasty exploding bit was somewhere on the bottom left of my jaw.. women might tell you that childbirth is a painful thing but to them I say, pashaw! ...and also, ouch. So, a long overdue appointment was applied for on the smiles.ie website... I heard nothing from them after 2 hours (not being overly patient) I called and no, they hadn't received my application. I made an appointment over the phone for the next day. I suspected I had a long list of ailments so asked for them to do an exam and work up a plan (which I shall be taking to the VHI dental people!). Yup... the list was loooong, including 2 root canals, lots of fun ahead but having met the dentist and gone through the 1st exam and treatment I am happy that (wait for it.....) ...that I'll be smiling in the end crap... did I really go for the cheap pun at the end?, yes, yes I did. Oh, I wish I'd looked after me teeth, And spotted the dangers beneath All the toffees I chewed, And the sweet sticky food. Oh, I wish I'd looked after me teeth. Pam Ayres
