After becoming completely disgusted with our incompetent previous tax preparer, three years ago we were fortunate enough to discover Nova. They took a real interest in looking carefully at our financial situation to maximize anything that was applicable to us. Not only did they ask us for details about things that we wouldn't have even thought of, they offered suggestions about things that our previous preparer had not even taken into account. They knew that we were dissatisfied with our previous preparer so after they finished our first tax return with them they offered to review our previous year's tax returns for a (very) nominal fee. For the previous year we had paid, but after reviewing and taking into account everything they now knew about us they re-filed our previous year's tax return and got us a significant refund because of things that had been overlooked! I've tried communicating with her about how to resolve the items we disagreed about but... you can see her responses. Defensive instead of problem solving. I had a situation recently where the IRS sent me a notice and i thank god everyday i decided to call Nova first because im a scaredy cat and was just going to pay for whatever the IRS told me i had "done wrong" even though i already filed fully for that year, which Tami (the owner) explained was absolute BS they were trying to pull on me. She was luckily able to squeeze me in the same day to look over everything and call the IRS with me! And let me tell you it was like watching superwoman! Literally within MINUTES they told me to disregard the notice!! It was the biggest relief EVER, and the fact Tami (and her office) took the time to help me is something i'll be grateful for forever. on top of that, every experience i had filing my taxes here was great. We went in there to do our taxes, and the lady wasn't ready for us, which was fine so we were waiting. They were all very loud talking about other clients. It was an extremely chaotic environment. Stacks of papers everywhere. Once we were called back, they were other people's tax returns just sitting on the chair next to my husband. The lady could not even focus on us. Recent calls to this agency have shown few improvements. Parking is still tight & limited here, no restroom for customers, staff aren't friendly or helpful. They decline to assist with completing paperwork & can't answer basic questions without " checking with the owner" who rarely seems to be present & doesn't return calls even though she posts a promise to do so on her website. Tami is rude when you can finally get her attention & she's so defensive she is incapable of fixing issues. Finding a trustworthy tax professional, with reasonable prices is next to impossible. So now that i have found the next to impossible i have to share Tami took the time to explain everything. She went above and beyond filing our taxes without charging us a fortune. Anyone considering using a tax professional instead of an online program or a national chain should consider NovaTax! I am putting a more detailed story below because handing someone all of your paperwork and trusting them to do your taxes the best way possible is scary.... I was life long "do-it-yourselfer" when it came to taxes. My theory was, "why pay a fortune when online programs walk you through the same process for a fraction of the cost?" I have done it all, from 1040ez to a full schedule C as a contracted worker. I was the person everyone else came to for tax help. I thought i was pretty good at it too, until 2015 when the IRS rejected our return, it has been a nightmare of rejected returns ever since. One bad return and it snowballed out of control. We were in collections for that 2015 return and had refunds owed for 2016. Everything was stuck in limbo. We reached out to tax consultants, financial advisors, a company that advertises they can get the IRS off your back, and a tax attorney. Each time we either got vague advice, or a promise to help..... after we pay thousands up front costs. Our tax situation became so overwhelming i gave up. I quit trying to fix the return, i quit opening the collection letters. I just pretended our tax problem didn't exist. My husband met Tami while the kids were at martial arts class. He gave tami 4 years of mess and she quickly and professionally organized everything. We had to call the tax board, Tami sat on hold with my husband and helped him request a hold be put on his wage garnishment. I got there and even though I overheard the lady I was booked with wasn't there due to an emergency, Tami (the owner) treated the situation with ease. I almost thought I was going to be an inconvenience and I would have needed to wait a long time or have to come back. But no, nothing like that at all. And mind you, taxes were due Monday and I was there on a Saturday afternoon. I came to her with unfiled taxes of THREE years (random years as far as 2013) and my current one. I was irresponsible and put it off because I knew I owed plus I didn't want to deal with the penalties and the fee of having to pay someone hundreds and hundreds of dollars to help me file them. Plus, I went to H&R last year and my tax guy made me feel like I was unprepared and I was so u comfortable. I felt like I was being scolded because I needed to show him proof my daughter was mine. Even though I had her social security and she was with me! He even kind of scolded her for not having her school ID with her, WTF.
