I would strongly recommend nova driving school to everyone. I had a driving experience of almost 8 years and 60000 kms in india and I was pretty confident to pass the test in my first attempt however when I gave my test (2 attempts without any driving school instructions) I realised that there were some small things which I was not aware off and all those things really mattered when it comes to the road test in Illinois. No need to mention that I failed my first two attempts. Finally I reached out to Nova driving school and I was lucky enough to have "David Bonilla" as my instructor. He is very good at what he is supposed to do. He helped me with all the possible scenarios Related to advanced intersection, turns etc. He can provide you all those nitty gritty details to past your test in your first attempt itself. When you call Nova ask for "David bonilla" as your instructor. Highly recommended. I wish I could have saved at least 1 year if I would have known this earlier. Highly recommended to all immigrants also. Don't get into the trap of cheap individual instructors in the market they don't provide good services while nova has a brand to maintain and they go for an additional mile to make sure that you pass your test in your first attempt . I would suggest that you should Go for at least 4 hour behind the wheel + road test package. I am rating Nova Driving School a 1 star! This company is extremely unprofessional and caused trauma to me driving. On my second day of driving school I was traumatized and treated unfairly by C. Fabian. C. Fabian yelled at me multiple times and once I spoke to him about yelling at me and how he was making me nervous along with feeling like he was nervous , his response was "Why wouldn't I be nervous" Once I told C. Fabian that I felt uncomfortable with continuing the session he went to fill my evaluation out and lied about everything and forged my signature. This all took place on May 7th. I went in to speak with a representative about my experience and at first all she said was "we're closed" and I stated "oh really". Once I told her "oh really" she then started to write down what happened. Since May 7th I haven't gotten a call about what happened and I've called a total of 4 times leaving voice mails for someone to contact me back. I find this to be interesting because when I was first interested in going through with Nova Driving School people would literally call me all the time and even answer my phone calls. Now since this problem has occurred, I haven't heard ANYTHING back. Also, looking into my evaluations I see that my signature was forged multiple times and lies on those evaluations. I am concerned with my signature being forged and the lies on these evaluations. I'm really wondering if this could be going on with someone else as well. read more

I strongly recommend instructor Javier. He is very experienced (10+ years teaching experience), methodical, articulate, and patient. He helped me develop a sense of what exactly I should do under different scenarios. For reference, I'm in my 30s with zero driving experience, but was able to pass the road test with ease after practicing with Javier over 6 lessons + 1 additional lesson on the road test day, on my first try. My overall experience with Nova is also great. Lana, a staff member, has been assigned to help me with the process since my first call to the school. She is very approachable and answers my questions and requests timely. Impressive. I highly recommend Nova and instructor Javier, especially if you are new to driving. You won't regret it! read more

I enrolled my teen in 12-hours of lessons and road test at the Hyde Park location but ULTIMATELY, PAID $540 FOR 10 HOURS OF LESSONS. My first impression from day one was that they are great at selling but immediately become uninterested in clients as soon as the ink is dry. Nova customer service is TERRIBLE. Calls seem to go to someone who is not on-site and with bad cell reception. I had problems throughout with scheduling and responsiveness to instructor issues such as late arrivals, no-shows, and lack of communication about last-minute changes. There were times I wouldn't bother contacting Nova to say, hey, the driver showed up 30-minutes late today, just so I wouldn't appear to be a problematic client. I tried multiple times to schedule the final 2-hour lesson and got emails offering appointments during hours when my son was in school. When I finally followed up to schedule the last lesson and road test, I was reminded that I had 9-months from the date of when the permit was issued to complete these. BEWARE CONSUMERS. Any other subscription type service would remind you that a cancellation or renewal is coming up - but Nova does nothing to make sure you get all that you paid for. UPDATE: Nova contacted me to schedule the remaining lesson. The road test should be scheduled after the remaining lesson is completed. I purchased the ultimate package a few years back. Two behind the wheel sessions in (4 of the 12 hours) I ended up stopping the course because of a medical emergency (which I made them aware of.) They offered no extension or refund for the time not used (so far we had only went over normal driving, not parallel parking or highway) & couldn't care less that I was completely unable to drive (which would last for more than a year.) In the end they pocketed over $700 as when I was cleared to drive again they refused to restore my credits (which they erased) nor was willing to come to an agreement. You'd think not many people drop $700+ on their classes so the customer service should be better. Overall, the instructors are okay, the location itself is small & claustrophobic (ironically their vehicles are the same as they use Kia Souls,) but I can't recommend a driving school with such terrible customer service. You could at least credit back 4 hours to go over parallel parking, get refreshed & highway then offer your car for the road exam, but to not budge at all is ridiculous. They talk about being "accomodating" in all of their responses to negative reviews, but in my situation where there were medical issues involved they threw that out the window. I wouldn't be surprised if legal action is taken against them. read more

Overall Nova has been horrible. The instructors were good, patient, and taught me a lot. Jamie was especially good. Try to schedule all your classes with one instructor. Otherwise, because each instructor has different preferences (especially how you turn your wheels/check blind spots) you spend each lesson trying to pander to that instructor instead of actually practicing and learning. Be aware that they also have instructors that are not road test instructors, so they don't know anything about the test and therefore are pretty useless if you're trying to maximize your chances of passing and getting your drivers license. Also note that they do not provide pick up/drop off to the DMV on the day of your test, even though their website suggests that this is included in the package. Their scheduling system and customer service is as bad as it gets. When I first signed up over the phone, the person got my contact info wrong multiple times even though I had double checked. They had the wrong phone number, so when they called the wrong number and I didn't pick up, instead of trying to contact me through email, they went ahead and randomly scheduled lessons without my knowledge. Had I not called to see what was going on, I would've been charged $800 + whatever nonsense cancellation fees for classes scheduled at times that I did not pick/was even aware of. Once I got the right classes scheduled, they kept cancelling without informing me. 3 different times, I only found out my classes were cancelled because I checked online at my own initiative. If I hadn't, I would never have known they were cancelled as they did not email, call, or text me to inform me that my schedule had changed. Throughout this whole time, I was unable to schedule my own lessons on their website and had to be on hold for hours to get someone on the line. From this aspect, my experience with Nova was terrible. How ironic is that they want to charge you $90 for cancelling/rescheduling a lesson 24 hours before, but they can just cancel randomly and not inform their customers with impunity. Overall it seems like their customer service is out of sight, out of mind. There is no effort made other than the bare minimum eg. schedule the lessons even though the customer does not know they exist or if they fit with the customer's schedule. I would not recommend, even though the instructors are in general pretty great, any time you deal with their customer service will be a pain. read more

After a very long journey, I finally got my license! Driving has always caused me anxiety ,but thankfully with NOVA, I was able to get partnered with someone who truly made me feel comfortable and less stressed while on the road! I highly recommend David Bonilla as an instructor. He was very calm and explained everything very thoroughly! I felt more confident driving with him. One piece of advice is too book your sessions early. NOVA always works with your schedule and are very accommodating, however the instructors are always booked, so definitely plan ahead to you keep the same instructor. I took a stick shift driving lesson through Nova. Ismail was my instructor, and he was a pleasure to work with. He was funny and warm, and gave good instructions and helped calm my nerves during some, ah, stick shift challenges. I came out of the lesson with confidence to continue practicing stick shift driving, and felt like I learned all the basics. It was relatively easy to schedule my lesson--purchase the lesson, and then select a time slot online. One thing that could be improved is the communication leading up to the lesson. Nova's preferred method of reaching out is by phone, which I generally don't check during work hours, or very often really at all due to the dozens of scam calls and voicemails I receive every day. If Nova would have emailed with their questions, I would have gotten back to them immediately. read more

For $600+ bucks they were attempting to schedule me inconsistent road classes that span over the course of a month. & then they tried to make it right my scheduling me early times during the span of a 3/4 weeks. Nova is very messy, I was given a instructor who does not do road test and then my road test I was paired with someone I didn't know and clearly did not care if I passed or failed and mix that in with negative energy from DMV employees, I indeed failed. & are asking for $99 for another road test try. Nova will quickly help you get your permit. But, after that you're kinda doomed. So go somewhere else! The instructor I had was nice and learning from him was fun. First of all, most of the instructors were fine. Some you will vibe with more than others, but for the most part they are good teachers. I spent close to 1k on lessons. They messed up my schedule and refused to acknowledge they were at fault despite the schedule mishap CLEARLY being a system error AND clerical error. Their system scheduled me incorrectly, their clerical staff verbatim told me the wrong scheduling information, and yet they did nothing to remedy the situation. They instead, put the blame on me for not being able to drive well enough. Absolutely garbage customer service. After being told by Nova I was not ready for the road test, I scheduled one lesson with another driving school and was told after 1 hour I was perfectly capable of passing the test. And guess what, I passed the road test with this other school after an hour of driving. I bought a package of 6 lessons + the road test with nova and a couple extra lessons because like a fool I believed them when they said "I only need one more lesson..." 3 times. My advice, you may have luck buying single lessons here and there, but do not expect their admin department to be able to remedy anything for you, and do not believe certain instructors when they say "one more lesson". PS. All those 5 star google reviews seem pretty sus. read more

To be fully transparent, I previously wrote a negative review of Nova because they cancelled my scheduled lessons several times. After the original situation, however, Nova worked very hard to turn my bad experience around. The next day, they called me to set up a new appointment. Later that day, I was in a car at the Western location with Mauricio. Mauricio was very kind, patient, and experienced. We spent about 30 minutes learning the theory of driving stick, an hour or so in a parking lot working on the basics, and another hour or so driving around that area of Chicago. Mauricio happily went beyond the designated 2 hours to make sure that I was really comfortable with shifting before we ended the lesson. While I think their scheduling could use improvement, I am glad that I eventually was able to have a rewarding experience with Nova. read more

The DMV picks like 5 letters that change monthly. If your last name happens to begin with one of these, you have to take the driving class at the DMV, regardless of whether you tested with Nova. SO, it is a $100 gamble to take the test at NOVA. I would not recommend paying this fee to test at Nova, unless they agree to a refund the fee if you have the unfortunate luck of having to retake at the DMV. This is the only reasonable solution. Just saying. This happened to me, and it sucked to have to retake AND be out $100 for nothing. read more

I'd first like to say that Pedro Hernandez was an excellent teacher. I had never driven a car before and he was very instructive and patient. However my experience dealing with Nova was overwhelming unprofessional. I bought an hour of class time before the road test and they told me over the phone that it would be at 7am. They then sent me three emails confirming, two of which said 7am and one of which said 8am. I double checked on their online portal and confirmed that my lesson was at 7am. When I got to the DMV, no one from Nova was there. They gave me a different instructor than Pedro so I didn't have the new instructor's contact information and Nova's customer service line was not open yet. I waited for an hour for the class at which point the instructor showed up and said I wasn't even on his schedule. Nova first told me it was my fault for not realizing that the one email that said 8am was correct and then told me that in fact the one hour class before the road test wasn't actually a real lesson so they had the right to show up whenever they wanted. No one told me this over the phone and it doesn't say this anywhere online. They refused to give me a partial refund because they said I had the class eventually. I agree that this center offers worse service and is a scan artist. I filed a complaint with BBB and they offered me to schedule a lesson and a road test because they have previously cut short of my lesson and multiple booked me for my initial road test. However, the person named Kevin kept on switching the times around the last minute even after I accepted all of their times including 6AM. When I complained about multiple cancellations and lack of response and asked for a refund instead, Kevin said on their system all of my lessons have been completed. Make sure to have all your communications in writing with NOVA because I have in writing another person from NOVA acknowledging that they cut my time short and we have another person saying he is doing it out of courtesy when all my lesson time has been completed. TLDR, this place is an absolute comedy of errors from first interaction to my last today. ABSOLUTE JOKE! TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE. I cannot remember a worse customer experience in my life, honestly, that bad. I've been driving for 16+ years and had been wanting to learn to drive a stick shift for some time. After reading some reviews and seeing what was available in the city, I chose NOVA. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE! The list of errors, mismanagement, customer service was piss poor across the board. SCAM ARTISTS THROUGH AND THROUGH HERE. It started with booking 2x 2 hr sessions this February 2021. Upon booking, I found it interesting that it still falls on the customer to schedule your appointments after giving them hundreds of dollars. A week went by before I felt obligated to make sure I wasn't being swindled. In a way...I was about to be. Next, not once, but two weekends in a row the same thing happened. This was during the polar vortex of 2021 and going into my Saturday appointments two weeks in a row temps averaged around 0. Knowing this I reached out via phone both times the day ahead of time asking if they thought I should reschedule due to cold temps and the car not starting. What happened?! Two weekends in a row I left my home to arrive at Nova and then find out upon arrival the car wouldn't start. No SHIT! I called management both times explaining the situation and it took 5 calls for me finally to get a hold of the manager and then it still required him trying just about everything to avoid discounting me back money. I didn't need extra time behind the wheel since I intentionally selected two classes for that exact reason. Got some BS for awhile before they did said they would be reimbursing me 30% of my payment (which at the moment in my experience, I was grateful for, and appreciated it althoughI'm still awaiting it to hit my account). If only that was the end of my experience... Today was my second/last two hour session starting at 1:30PM. 45 degree Saturday in Chicago so everyone was out. My driver showed up 20 min late in an automatic vehicle, so we had to then go get the manual trans vehicle down the street, except in was wedged behind another car. We had to wait while he worked with another colleague to get it out. We didn't leave the lot until 2:15 PM. Then, after realizing Humboldt Park would be too busy, we decided to drive down to United Center to practice. I LIVE RIGHT NEXT TO THE UC, MIND YOU. As a car service, why not manage this properly and save time/money with picking up your students?! They bank ZERO time in between sessions and seems to me like this would be an easy solution (where possible) to coordinate together and save everyone some time especially for those on the West side/central to the Loop given the UC area is the best for driving experience while practicing. We finally get down to the UC at 2:35 PM. Knowing this and my session supposed to have begun at 1:30 PM, I figured we would have at least til 4 considering they had wasted over a full hour of my two hours. 3:30 PM hits, and my instructor tells me to pull over now that the session is over. I said absolutely not, we will be driving until 4 PM given most of my session was wasted. He semi-obliged and let me keep practicing until 3:50 PM. Just unreal mismanagement across the board. The ONLY positive experience was my first driver instructor, Francisco. He was the man, everything else was an abomination. read more

I took the adult 12BTW and Road test over the span of a couple months. I definitely would recommend Nova. Some instructors are superior then others. I would say if you like one instructors teaching style try to book them far in advance. I learned that the hard way but it turned out okay in the end. My goal was to get my license before summer and I did it on the first try! On the day of the road test I met with my instructor Jamie and we drove the test route for about 2 hours before the DMV opened. He made me feel very confident and prepared. read more

I was recommended by my sister to Nova, her teenage son and daughter's friends went here for their driving school. Although the instructors seem to be a hit or miss, I got three instructors that was first late, second canceling last minute or just plain very rude behavior. I reported that an instructor should not touch female student's hands but the staff thought it was normal for teaching. Please take note if you have a teenage daughter to be aware of this. Had two instructors: Sarah and Javier. Sarah was really accommodating, in touch w the specific needs I had as someone that hadn't been behind the wheel in a long time. Super patient, but very knowledgable. Sets a relaxed energy in the car that makes it easy to learn. On the day of my road test, Javier was my guy to help get in some last second prep, and he's just a veteran in the business. Consummate professional. I'm 22 years old and I've held back from learning to drive for so so so long. I envied my friends who received their driver's license @ age 17 and up I'm the only one who didn't know how to drive. I turned 21 and couldn't drive myself to the club to dance and mix and migle with friends either I was waiting for a ride/ taxi (I was wearing heels) or take the bus and wear flats. I did research after research online and calling around to other expensive and far out, driving schools with bad reviews. I emailed Nova driving school in 1-2hrs later (which is fast to me) I received a detailed response. I passed my written test studying on my own but I took my 1st lesson with them, my Teacher's Name was Maria Walker, now I 've heard so many good reviews and I now know they are not from people from the company or robots lol!! Maria is a delight and each day I practice with her my anxiety goes down a lil more and my confidence increases!!! We were driving in a Mitsubishi Forenza which is nice sized car with Maria I practiced parking, expressway driving, driving on the main streets, it was exhilerating. But when you book Maria you have to make sure you schedule you future lessons because she books quickly. I've also had the pleasure of being taught by Martha she was nice and understanding she was the instructor who introduced me to downtown rush hour traffic and Lake Shore drive in my 3rd lesson. in my 4th lesson, I was introduced to Ramone a funny patient guy who improved my turns a lil bit better! I haven't had to drive in a long, long, long time lol and thus getting a DL was the last thing on my mind until my job said I needed one asap! If you are reading this review you are probably thinking about taking Nova driving school classes. Yes, you should definitely do it! Nova is not cheap, but the staff is extremely professional and caring. I had zero driving experience and in just two weeks I went through Nova's "Adult Ultimate Beginner Program" and successfully passed my driving test. The man on the phone was very helpful. I managed to schedule all of my classes right away. The only thing I did not particularly like is that Nova's schedule was very tight. I could not work with one instructor and ended up working with four different people. Although it was nice to glean valuable information from all their experiences, I noticed that some instructors had different ways of teaching and understanding the road. Try to book your classes in advance and preferably with one instructor. My TOP TWO instructors at Nova are Martha and Javier! Martha is extremely patient, kind and professional! I was lucky to have three classes with her. I was so nervous at the beginning, I thought I am going to bump into something all the time. Martha's instructions made me feel way more confident. She explained everything in great detail: how to drive next to the yellow line, how to make perfect turns, parking rules etc. On the day of the test, we had a two-hour practice class. It was early in the morning and when I made some minor mistakes she would politely correct me and by the end of the class I was completely confident to take the test. She is AWESOME and you'd be lucky to have her as your instructor! Javier was my fourth instructor and I was blown away by his professionalism! Although I already had three classes I still had some questions regarding my left turns and just general rules, specifically at the intersection. At the beginning of the class, Javier parked near my house and explained everything STEP by STEP. He walked me through ALL of the important rules and showed me his "road diagram" which was very helpful for a visual learner like me. When I started driving I already had the rules in mind and never hesitated on the road. After Javier's class, I finally felt completely confident! Book his classes if you can, you will learn so fast! Regarding my other instructors. Julio is a very nice guy, it was a fun class! He is good at explaining the rules and he gave a few great tips. However, his approach was less soft. I am a very sensitive person that's why sometimes I was getting a bit upset when Julio criticized me. Overall, his class was very useful, Julio was very involved and wanted me to do better and perfect my skills. Brian was also very nice and super chill. The best thing I learned from him is that I have to "trust the car" and really try to enjoy driving. His class would be just perfect for more ADVANCED drivers! When I made mistakes (it was my third time behind the wheel) Brian would ask me to stop the car and make a comment about me being unattentive or "not comfortable" with the car. It would make me even more nervous on the road. It would be nice to receive some concrete recommendations and tips on how to improve my driving as well. Again, you will definitely enjoy his class if you are a bit more advanced. Overall, I would recommend Nova, and again my two FAVORITE instructors Martha and Javier! read more
