Therapist Carrie Hunter is fantastic! I was referred to Carrie from another trans friend as I was beginning my journey to transition. Fortunately, Nova accepts my insurance-- but honestly, even if they didn't, I'd want to go here.
Therapy is one of those things that everyone could benefit from but people don't like to talk about. I've worked in the mental health field for over 12 years and can tell you, there's nothing embarrassing about asking for help or just needing a 3rd party person to listen. Validation is important, and that's exactly what I got from my visits with Carrie.
It sucks to be trans. It's nothing anyone wishes for, it just is. It also sucks that you have to have someone verify that you are trans in order to make changes to your own body -- but Carrie gets that, and is gentle and understanding. She understands the anxiety and bravery that it takes to tell your friends, family, employer, etc. Talking with her felt very natural, like chatting with an old friend. Our sessions also provided me with validations and in a few cases, new ways of thinking and courage to face some things and people I didn't want to.
When she felt it was appropriate, she provided me with my letter to start T. I can tell you, that was one of the best days of my life -- and I couldn't have done it without her help. I recommend anyone trans or cis to see Carrie. She's just a spectacular human. Very comforting, non-judgmental and validating. That's like the therapist equivalent of Cool, Funny, Useful. read more
