Fun and beautiful customes. well done villages. Take you back in time. Different stages of plays (shakespeare anyone?). Art & crafts for kids and adults. Fencing too!!! Dress up and be part of the kingdom. Tip: ask before you take a picture of custom/extras, courtesy and ask question who they suppose to be back a days.

Pretty good for its first ever year. I'd first heard about this faire from their Kickstarter campaign, and I was happy to see it come to fruition. It was a small faire in a suburban neighborhood park (it felt funny getting out of the car in full garb in front of someone's house instead of a field or dusty vacant lot and walking to a fenced-off area in a park). I loved the choice of having this in mid-Autumn, with the mild weather this weekend. Lots of people came in garb. I saw a lot of familiar faces from Southern faire. There was a decent selection of vendors, and loads of folks in beautiful, period wear (go, Germans and Scots!). They also have a stage dedicated to reenactors portraying famous people of the Renaissance from Da Vinci, Galileo, and Columbus to Grace O'Malley, Lady Jane Grey, and Lucrezia Borgia. They would give a monologue and you could ask them questions. I've seen these more at Dickens/Victorian events and not normally renaissance faires, and it was a welcome change. There were a few things that could be tweaked: - Seemed like all the parking lots were ear-marked for vendors, so attendees were stuck competing for spaces around the neighborhoods. - They needed signage for directing people to the entrance. We nearly walked the full perimeter of the faire looking for the gate after walking through the neighborhood from the car. - Several food vendors were placed in a tight area, with the lines extending the entire walkway. Made it difficult to traverse through that part of the faire. - ATM fees were insane at $5 (not to mention what your bank is going to dock you for for using an ATM out of your system). - NC-17 acts weren't clearly marked on the program (times and acts were flipped around a bit, but that's not jarring). - While they could have stood to have more entertainment (it was their first year, so I'm not stressing this), I'd hope there'd be some sort of etiquette put in place for performers in the future. I mean this in the sense that shows were happening on designated stages, but then another act would set up shop on the lawn nearby and drown-out the stage show, competing for tips. I didn't think there was anything malicious meant in this; it just went unchecked. Still, I really enjoyed the faire. It was rewalkable. In other words I didn't feel as though I was over it on one walkthrough. Just strolling around and looking at things and people was enjoyable on its own. Also lots of shade and no dust! I definitely appreciated these aspects.

    Amazing cosplay.

This was my first Renaissance Fair, so I did not know what to expect. With that said this was a very well organized and executed event. It was fun to experience what life during this period would be. Great vendors, great cosplay, great food and drink, great characters and most importantly a great time.

    David and Goliath!

Different zones were laid out this time, which seemed logical to me. These included Kid Zone, Pet Zone, food & beverage vendors, craft show section, and a sprinkling of local nonprofits and also for-profit businesses. I did notice that the Kid Zone had arts & crafts, plus a bungee jumping opportunity. The jumping was $10, so I hope they gave the kids a long time to bounce once harnessed into the equipment. Arts & crafts may have been free; didn't check too closely. Noticed that the number of booths seemed lighter than in past years. There were gaps along the route where either the vendor was a no-show, or they didn't sell the space in advance. A persistent breeze made it challenging for anyone trying to offer a mirror for patrons to check out their potential purchases, especially of clothing items. A mix of jewelry, purses, hats, clothes, household crafts like pillows, and more were available to tempt shoppers. One of my favorite people, Linda, with Twisted Temptations jewelry & fashion clothing, was there again. I found several seasonal items at her booth. Score! Always nice to perk up the wardrobe and visit with a kind person. Some of the other vendors I recall from years past weren't there this time, which made it a quicker run-through for me. Dear Hubby and I went over to the food and entertainment zone to watch a country-western band play for awhile. Finding seats under the colorful umbrellas, we soon learned that it might take a couple of beers to be mellow enough to appreciate the group. They were "pitchy" as they used to say on American Idol, on the singing side. The instrumentals were fun and high energy. A number of local craft breweries were on hand, with the standard charge at $6, reasonable these days. Didn't check out the food booths, as we'd had lunch on the Garden Tour not long before. Finished off by checking out some of the classic cars at the Car Show part of the event. I have loved antique autos for many decades. It was nice to see so many shiny examples of early design. DH mentioned one family had owned a '56 T-Bird continually since she came out of the showroom; with original paperwork on hand for the sale. That's impressive! Always worth checking out this salute to community spirit each April. Kudos to the Rotary Club for putting on an event that everyone can gather together to enjoy.

It seemed like there was much less to look at and we walked through the trail way faster than we did at the Halloween one. Maybe they're just mainly known for Night of the Jack so that's what they're best at and that's where they give the most effort. But the holiday one was kind of a let down so we would only go back for Night of the Jack. Of course we still enjoyed ourselves and made a night out of it, but we just had higher expectations after our October experience. But now we know to skip the Holiday Road.

We had such a good time at Night of the Jack last year, that we were waiting for an opportunity to…read moresee Holiday Road as soon as we could. Back in early Nov, I found out that my mother, who just had knee surgery and is currently wheelchair bound, would be making a very rare visit to Los Angeles and thought it would be the perfect time to go see Holiday Road! Unfortunately, it was A COMPLETE SH*T SHOW. We were so disappointed. We found out it would be raining severely during our planned visit day and we were not available to go any other day, so we contacted the event organizers to see if we could get a refund or trade our tickets for one of next year's events. No such luck. :( We were told we could trade for another day during this year's event, but aside from that, we were stuck with 3 tickets that we would probably not be able to use. I let them know my mother was in need of a wheelchair and inquired if they might have wheelchairs available at the event to rent, but they did not. This would have been a great time for customer service to tell me that the mud would be ankle deep and that a wheelchair would never be able to make it through the parking lot, let alone the rest of the course. Sadly, they failed to do this. We knew it would be muddy, but we just had no idea how bad it would really be. I had heard that the clouds might part for an hour or two just about the time we planned to attend and we hated to see so much money go to waste, so we decided to make a go of it. Thank goodness we did not bring the wheelchair with us! ..or a walker for that matter. Neither would NEVER have made it through this slippy slide of a mess. As it was, the cane was getting halfway stuck in the mud with every step, which made getting out of the place a nightmare. There were no boards or planks for visitors to step on in the deepest places, no signs warning about the slipper, squishy conditions, it was just a total bust. On top of that, we saw many of the giant snowflake decorations were cut in half and battered, the Frosty the Snowman blow up decoration was splattered with mud, making it look like someone who had just left a murder scene, one of the bigger decorations that was covered in hundreds of blinking and flashing lights had most of the front facing lights burnt out, about 1/3 of the blow up decorations were completely deflated and the course was super dark so that you could not see if you were about to step into a puddle of water or a patch of squishy slippery mud..Even when we all had our cellphone flashlights on, we could still just barely what we were about to step into. In addition, the music at some of the speaker locations was so loud, we could not hear ourselves calling to each other to watch out for this pothole or that puddle. There were only a handful of vendors there (As compared to what we saw at Night of the Jack), which was especially disappointing. We figured if we had to wait it out in the vendor truck area, at least we could do some shopping, but there was not a lot to see or buy at all. We were about 3/4 of the way through, when we decided it was too dangerous for my elderly mother with a barely functioning knee to continue on. But she was so concerned about turning back and going back through the puddles, potholes and muck, that she opted against hope that the way forward would get easier. It didn't. When we finally got to the front near the parking, I stayed with her while my wife went to get the car, which of course got stuck in the mud. We called for help, but were able to rock it back and forth out of the mud before help ever arrived. We were hoping things might clear up enough for us to get through it all without heavy rain. It only sprinkled on us, so that is the one good thing that happened for us. We had hoped not to waste so much money by throwing out the tickets and took a chance, but if we had known how bad it would really be, we would definitely never have gone at all. And that is my main complaint here. There should have been warnings online, in the emails between me and customer service and posted at the entrance to the event, as well as throughout the event that the conditions were so poor. When the customer service rep realized that I was planning to bring somebody in a wheelchair, that person should have spoken up and told us truthfully what the conditions would be. The whole thing was a major fail. It was just really disappointing.
