Problem was I tried Royal Carribean first. Norweigan is subpar and could learn from others. We went on the Star from Tampa. They're free style dining makes for very long wait times, you have to get a pager every night and even once at the table you wait so long for everything. Servers don't care about you and the experience is so awful. The food was just okay. Still have the up charges for good steak etc. they didn't have enough staff or bartenders, long waits everywhere. No towel animals and this boat was just very out dated. The only amazing things was their private island and shows at night but I'll probably stick with Royal in the future.

Check out the specialty dining for a better breakfast than the Garden Cafe.

For now, I am going to rate NCL a 3 of 5 with a reevaluation coming after our next cruise. Here's my thinking... We just finished our second cruise on NCL (11 day European) and overall were quite happy with it. There was a hiccup in our bid to upgrade our cabin, and my message to NCL for an explanation so far has gone unanswered. We did get the cabin we paid for, the attendant was spot on all through the trip, as were all members of the crew we interacted with. I only take points of for a few things. The Garden Cafe is a bit "meh" on quality and quantity of offerings. It is what it is. The stop in LeHavre was also a bit "meh" with the walking tour a bit more than we planned on and the sights a bit thin, plus most things were closed (we couldn't even find a place have a light lunch). Wish we knew in advance, we might have stayed on the ship or hired a private guide. We do like NCL enough to be considering them for our 2027 voyage (we tend to alternate them and Avalon river cruises. I recommend upgrading the flight to a premier with Virgin, worth the money. Again, you have fantastic people, your bar restaurant serves a heck of a Ruben nicely paired with a rum and Coke (though the fries are "meh"). Your stage productions are well work the visit!

Super happy with our cruise and everything both onboard and during our excursion. We booked a last minute deal (which I highly recommend, so you can save money and get free upgrades) and headed to Key West and Cuba. We booked the Wednesday before a Monday leave out! The boarding process was a little frustrating as they had two lines and one moved pretty quickly as it had about ten employees checking guests in and the other moved very slowly with only three employees checking guests in (same length on each line). We moved ourselves to the faster line after being put in the slow line and just making a move without permission (ssshhhh). We were on the boat before the person that was in front of us in the other line was even halfway through the line!! Once onboard things were much, much smoother. We checked into our room and got a drink. We wondered around getting familiar with the ship and its offerings. The room was very cozy and per the norm for a cruise. We had an excursion for both ports, but out Key West one was cancelled due to rain. We made our way easily around the island on our own though, so no biggie. Cuba was excellent and the tour excursion was very informative! We loved going to the art auctions, live music shows, and trivia events. I took advantage of the gym and it was well kept as well. The food was really good and we loved the Four Seasons restaurant. Overall: A Great cruise with really fun port-of-calls!

We just returned from a 15 day cruise through the Panama Canal on NCL Joy. We left from Los Angeles and ended our cruise in Miami. This was our first NCL trip, but not our first cruise. We have taken several trips with Royal Caribbean and Princess. We booked a room with a balcony on deck 13. 1. Embarkation was a chaotic mess. Most passengers had to line up outside the building, in the rain, for several hours. After finally checking in, we were then bussed to another port to board the ship. With 3,000-4,000 passengers, you can imagine how long that took. The ship departed over two hours late. 2. After standing in the rain, I got a sinus infection. After a quick trip to the medical center for some antibiotics, I walked away with a $500 medical bill. 3. We found the food in the complimentary restaurants to be just okay. It seemed like it wasn't fresh and was microwaved. Of course the food in the specialty restaurants (that costs extra and is very expensive), was excellent. The buffet was mediocre. 4. Mid cruise, my husband picked up the Norovirus. He was unable to leave the room for several days. 5. Housekeeping seemed to be very overworked. Our housekeeper wasn't able to clean our room until after 3:00 every day. She did a great job, but she had way too many rooms to clean. 6. Most of our excursions were sub par. There were two out of six that were great, but the rest did not deliver what was promised. 7. When compared to RC or Princess, it seemed like NCL was nickel and diming us for every little thing. 8. Debarking the ship was another mess. It took two hours of standing in lines to retrieve our luggage and go through customs. After seeing the long line to get on a NCL transfer to the airport, we decided to take a taxi. We noticed that folks who had NCL arrange their flights didn't leave Miami until the evening. We suspect that NCL did this to encourage passengers to sign up for Miami excursions. We had to spend six hours at the airport waiting for our flight. It was a long day. 9. Lastly, it seemed like the crew didn't really go the extra mile to make us feel special. They were polite, but never really took the time to learn your name or engage in friendly banter. Needless to say, we were disappointed with NCL and won't be cruising with them again.

Lovely ship with a well equipped gym and great instructors. Great food and fun ports of call. We sailed through xmas and New Years and had a nice NYE party on the ship. We visited Aruba Curacao Grand Cayman Puerto Rico and St Thomas USVI. Would have liked more time on Aruba. Shipboard entertainment was excellent especially yhe acrobats, the comedian Alex Ortiz and Ana the dance instructor. Our steward did an excellent job keeping our cabin clean and well stocked

We just came home from a 5 night cruise to Grand Cayman and Cozumel on the Dawn. Since this was a private charter and our 1st time cruising, I'm not sure what to compare it to but, overall, it was a great time. I found the boarding process to be very smooth and I had no problems navigating the ship. Everything is clearly marked and there always seemed to be staff around to help answer questions. Everyday we got a schedule of the next days events and all we had to do was choose. 2 of the major shows on our cruise combined water, fire and aerialists. From ballet to tap to jazz moves, it was all there. We loved it. The room had more space than I expected. There was a nice sized closet with drawers inside as well as 2 desk areas with drawers and shelving. We had more than enough spaced and then stored the luggage in the closet. The TV had free movies and a couple channels consisting of news, daytime TV, a map of our current location and destination and a live feed of the view from the bow which was cool. I didn't try the specialty restaurants because, quite honestly, there were a ton of free food options and the free restaurants were fairly nice. The buffet was our regular spot of choice for breakfast and lunch and they always had something different. Breakfast served up cereal, grits, oatmeal, fruit, eggs, omelets, breakfast meats, breads, sweet rolls...you name it, they had it. My favorite on the buffet was the night they had roasted turkey and stuffing. It was "Thanksgiving Day Good". The Aqua and The Venetian restaurants are absolutely beautiful with somewhat similar menus, different ambience. O' Sheehan's is a pub that serves up delicious wings, fish and chips and that epic strawberry shortcake in my profile pic. Ask for some ice cream on it. Swear it's thee best thing sweets on the sea! Know that you will have holds on the card on file so expect it. It's really no different than what resorts do. There were many people with negative/tapped bank or credit card account balances because they didn't realize it even though it is mentioned in the booking details. Another thing to be mindful of are the gratuities on all of the extras unless you have a package that includes them already paid. The pool was salt water and cold but the hot tub was literally steps away. I lved the upper decks which also included 2 bars, an ice cream counter and fast style/bbq food. I thought the customer service at the desks and bars was great. There were occasions in the restaurants where it wasn't the best and the language barriers, at times, posed a bit of a problem with getting orders accurate. However, when I think about how the crew has to navigate carrying orders and working through language barriers on their end, I can see how it must be challenging on their side too. They were willing to go out of the way to make us happy though and I appreciate them. I'm not sure if crusing is my fave way to travel since I love to travel and hang out at destinations on land. However, I can see how crusing would be beneficial to visit several places to see which spots you may want come back to visit to stay on resort.
